- Sermon scene from Kubrick's film A Clockwork Orange. Malcolm McDowell (little Alex) helping Godfrey Quigley (Prison Charlie) with his sermon. Oh yes, I have been informed...

*puckers lips* *puckers lips again* *puckers lips again*
*Alex stares blankly*
This is what makes this scene so amazing.
Lol ikr this film is more than just a drama its a satirical, dark, comedy as well and most people don't get that.
Alex was having none of that pervert shit.
Beethoven's Baton who is the guy who plays the the kissy faced guy anyone know? I’ve seen him in a few things!
Josh Beeson: Gordon Ramsay.
Björn Ragnarsson its not gordon ramsay lol
"And lets have a reverence, you bastards.. come on, sing up, Damn you.." This is definitely the best mass ever XD
“Sign up, you bastards!” Sounds like the church and state, alright 😂
@@arealcatladyOr just don't be a lushious young malchek. cuz. 😁
For an American Kubrick certainly had a British sense of humour.
I like how he made his most famous and acclaimed films here in the UK. I wouldn't be surprised if he liked some of the old school 70s and 80s comedies made here as well
PRIEST: "We will now sing hymn 258 in the Prisoners' hymn log."
SERGEANT: "AND LET'S HAVE A LITTLE REVERENCE, YOU BASTARDS!!"
The late, great Michael Bates (the Sergeant) just KILLS it in all of his scenes! Outstanding!
I think you mean chief officer.
@ TM Rwzzek and I find his Sgt. or Chief Officer character very likable and charming !
He wouldn't have even needed to act. I read he served in the Ghurkas. He played the same type of character in the film, "The Battle of Britain."
Gordon Ramsay blowing kisses to Alex lmao!
He really looks like Gordon Ramsay
But fatter
Exactly Gordon Ramsay 🤣
Don’t you laugh damn you!!! Don’t you laugh!!
😂😂😂 funny asf
I’m fucking dead.
That blonde inmate blowing kisses at Alex always reminded me of Dim.
He reminds me of Gordon Ramsay lol 😂😂😂😂
LOL! I can't stop laughing at the comment about the pervert (who blows kisses at Alex) looking like Gordon Ramsey!
🤣😆😄😅😂
😄😄😄😄
DONT'T YOU LAUGH, DAMN YOU, DON'T YOU LAUGH!!!
😂😂😂😂
why does alex look cute af when he just stares blankly at the pervert
ooohh yeessss he is actually a cute handsome looking prestoopnik
@ Juan Tamad For me it is because pervert doesn't know that if Alex were to go mono a mono with pervert in personal combat situation with no institution around and no backup or protection , the pervert's pervert days would be over.
@@dagnabbit6187 Alex is a barely a teenager here. If confronted by two or even one stronger older man he'd get ass-raped
@@JayMoney-hd1jl in the book he kills that fucker and asserts his dominance
@@mrnukes797 He had help in the book.
Love Kubrick's use of static camera shots throughout this scene - totally his style, rarely see this technique used today
Guess you don't watch much stuff today. Almost every director on streaming platforms from many countries does it for their shows and film, it's almost too overdone nowadays.
malcom was a very beautiful boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alex is drop dead glorious!
Much like myself.
Looks like me
...I think the red band in alex's arm signifies not only is he a prisioner, but also part of the prision staff.
That perv blowing Alex a kiss and Alex just keeping a blank stare is just so funny. I don't know how he did this scene without cracking up. 😂
And the burp is another funny part
The view you see isn't actually throu Alex's eyes you see, he was blowing kisses to a camera not the actor.
Understand now?
i always thought he was blowing kisses at the guard (Old Sir Bernard), but it's even more funny how Alex keeps a blank face when everyone is losing it when someone farted and Old Monty is trying to keep order. classic ingenious filmmaking!@@ernestchadwell9069
Chief officer Barnes absolutely steals every scene he's in
Malcolm is so handsome. His accent, blue eyes, perfect hair. what more could a girl ask for oh and the smirk he does in the movie
"what more could a girl ask for" him not being a murderous psychopath

@@winning3329
God you're angry for everything, stop being jealous.
Let's have a little reverence you bastards! 🤣 one of the best lines in this film 😆
And especially with that particular accent
0:41 to 0:45: The look on his face perfectly describes how I would have felt if I were in Alex' position.
This is great preaching! More churches need to be like this...leaving the service in fear
Right
How McDowell could keep a straight face and not bust out laughing for so much as one second I do not know............. Too funny. That blonde actor doing his fruit pie thing makes me laugh so hard............. Too funny................... Great work everyone!
death2pc Yeah but I think the guy next too him is even funnier and probably the bigger Perv. The Blond probably does it as a side thing and the guy next too him is really into it . He is just more composed and disciplined.
Probably because when you're on take 65 of the same exact scene it probably loses its humor quite quickly.
@@tempo1889 And it's over the shoulder plus they're professional actors

**Burp**
*I SAW YOU!!*
The prisoners making kissy faces at each other remind me of US Navy enlisted submarine sailors.
Don’t you laugh damn you! Don’t you laugh!!
Can’t believe no one has said that yet
I can see why this is one of the most profitable movies in cinematic history.
Pure comedy.. A scene skilfully put together by a master
"I know...ohhh yes I knooow..." FAAAAAAAAAAAAAART.
that was pretty much what i would do whenever i was in class, not church though
@@derekwall200did u fart in classes? the teachers didnt punish?
0:38 started to crack up, the way he just stares back in disgust.

Haha the look on Alex face when that guy's winking at him and stuff is hilarious.
those two gay guys steal the whole scene. one blowing kisses and winks and the other just makes sheeps eyes lol
Did anyone even notice the policeman's face? Hilarious!
It's look of horror, then disgust, and then finally diverting is perfectly done.
how would you look if you looked at Medusa?
LMAO Alex's expression looking at the kissy face pervert!
When dude burped and the priests reaction, I was weak😅
The fart at 1:34 lol
Still fucking hilarious no matter how many times I've seen this!
"... a fireball spinning in their screaming guts. And I know, oh yes, I know..."
[ Old fart ]
That organ player was the only person there who had no reaction to the big fart. He just looked over.
Alex either 😎
Cant get enough of this scene. Kubrick is a master when curating his authority figures in this film. The orator really gives it everything here, his disdain for hoodlums is really shining through, love the part between 0:50-0:59 lol
I just love the belch & reaction! 1:00 😂
This my favorite scene from the movie!
That fart was epic
"What's it going to be, eh?!!" The actor who played the chaplin (Godfrey Quigley) was very good in this movie.
When I watched the baptism scene in "There Will Be Blood" for the first time, I noticed that Eli Sunday was shot from the same awkward angle as the minister in this scene.
Yup! The scene where they're awkwardly singing along to thematically significant lyrics too! 'there is power power wonder working power in the blood.. of the lamb'
My reaction to your comment....0:38

Looooooooll timeless scene!
"And let's have a little reverence you bastards!"
Incredible.
Even more incredible.
Gordon Ramsey
He's about to start cooking
despite kubrick depicting the chaplain as a farce-worthy parody, he was the actual hero of the film...he the one who made it clear the impropriety of mind-meddling, the one who assumed Alex could change with proper treatment and one insider with the guts to speak up against the process that eliminated free choice. That he was made clownish is a tweek offered by Kubrick and his disdain for religion.
Except, as you said, he was the only one who understood the implications of what the government was doiing...so he WASN'T made clownish, he was shown to be perceptive and intelligent. He can hardly be blamed for the prisoners' cynicism and irreverence. I don't think Kubrick was mocking him at all.
The problem with the chaplain is that he didn't recognize the insincerity in Alex. Alex didn't have any true interest in becoming a good person. It was all an act.
@@fuzzballzz36 it was his funny-Irishman looks that was farcical. virtually all of the adults in Alex's life have absurd or exaggerated appearances.
@@diddymuck you make a good point there.

That main prison guard looks like Hitler--mustache, fierce look, always yelling.
That's intentional its supposed to be a metaphorical look into the worlds government. It's there to show the control and power the government has over alex and the rest of the world like Hitler.
Not to mention the Nazi-looking red armband on Alex's arm.

To me ,the prison chaplain is the hero of the story. His remarks about free will are the absolute truth.
Anyone notice the chief prison guard with Hitler style mustache stand in front of the chaplain & the chaplain raises his arm up like nazi salute?
and alex has red thing on his sleeve that resembles the n@zi uniform . is subliminal brainwashing i guess.the goal was to associate it with christianity maybe but lot of movies , if not all movies has this kind of subliminal images.forrest gump , pulp fiction and many others

If you pay close attention at 1:40, the priest looks like he is doing one of those nazi salutations, and the red band in Alex's arm looks like a nazi armband. Not to mention the Iron Cross lookalike symbol between the christian crosses. Interesting...
perhaps a coincidence, but perhaps not, and either way very befitting of the movie

Alex: Hello 👋 Everyone!
@claritysabbath
I agree with you- back then, there was one chaplain in jail and he was C of E. The Catholic iconography either indicates the old High-Church C of E or it's there to make the audience think of the Church in the most effective shorthand way possible- which is easier with crucifixes and altars than bare crosses and communion tables.
Once in University I attended a Bible fellowship group and sat near the stage where the band was playing. I stared at the bass guitar guy and made kissing faces at him, imitating the blond inmate making kissing motions at Alex. After fellowship a campus minister came by and said "Marcus says you were making faces at him, weren't you? Weren't you?"
Why did you comment three separate times about how you sexually harassed someone for keks?
It’s amazing how close the dialog is to the book. I’m reading the book now and the movie follows the book well, although I heard the ending is different, and in the book Alex kills the old lady with the Beethoven statue not the penis statue.
this scene is such a representation of how society and culture always try and push their ideas and beliefs on to other people, and how the religions will always find any opportunity to strike the fear of hellfire into the "soulless sinners" (in this case the pussy move of having a preacher in a prison). this movie is brilliant, and alot of people don't see the subtle messages about society it puts forth. kubrik was a genius.
the experiment was a whole.other level and lots of stuff nowadays is trying to get in and control our brains
"I have been informed..." :-)
“And let’s have a little reverence you bastards!” 😂😂😂😂
I think this was the first ever fart in a major motion picture. Blazing Saddles was three years later.
1:05 and 1:33 lol
STOP WHAT-
I just realised this as I was rewatching the movie bro that’s so messed up why does everyone hit on Alex😭 The guys are absolutely pervs😭😭😭
Also is the father the horrible histories guy?
1:05 and 1:33 XDD
The song they sing is key.
"I did not love my shepherd's voice,
I would not be controlled!"
Was Kubrick trying to suggest that those who don't conform are, one way or another, imprisoned? Discuss...
At the very least, the hymn suggests that this is the church's position, which it often is. Obedience is key to established religion.
There is an irony to all of this in that the hymn is about not allowing someone to control you.
Yet the same chaplain denounces the treatment to which Alex is subjected, as it renders him incapable of choice.
