Straightforward and helpful. Thank you.
Hi there,
What would be the best way to clean out the fans? and is replacing the thermal paste a simple procedure?
Thanks
one of the rare dell xps 9550 teardowns that has the larger battery instead of a SSD. nioce!
Thanks a lot! Samsung Evo 860 M.2 (MZ-N6E500) become for e9550?
How do these models do with dust? Do they collect a lot or didn't you notice too much when you opened this one?
can you show how to replace the mouse buttons? I dropped water on it and they no longer work
is the hdmi port replaceable/repairable?
mine has became faulty, it needs to be in the right position to work
Nice video very calling and easy to understand
Keep up the videos. Thanks
what size screw do you use for M.2 SSD?
I'd like to open my XPS but I'm scared because I took apart a Lenovo T510 and it didn't work after. Can you give me some tips so I don't screw up my XPS. I wanted to reapply some new thermal compound to it
Sadly I have had many weak links fail on my XPS 15. Starting to hate Dell quality control now. My XPS 15(9560) power supply connector(on pc) has broken(center fell out) - is this possible to replace?
what screwdriver do i need?
If I want to clean the inside of the keyboard of my XPS9560-7001SLV, Do I need to remove the motherboard?
How would you go about reducing those pesky electrical / buzzing noises coming from this machine (while it draw gfx on the screen).... I I am starting to hate this laptop .... Any idea ? Insulation ? Repaste ? Thermal pads on the mosfets orso ?
Had one for almost 2 years now, good laptop but the built quality isn't as good as the previous XPS 14 I still have. One of the fans is slowly dieing as well.
Where would the 2.5" go? Since the 9550 comes with a harddrive and an m.2 ssd there should be room for one but I can't see it on the video.
Models with a 2.5" HDD get a smaller battery, as per the 9530 I looked at here: czcams.com/video/n0_nolofSwc/video.html
You said you would link to the Dell service manual. What happened - I can't see the link you spoke of?
Oops, link is here and added to the description: downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_laptop/esuprt_xps_laptop/xps-15-9550-laptop_service%20manual_en-us.pdf
can i put in more than one ssd?
very useful vid, thanks!
Glad it helped.
Is there a space for a second M.2 SSD?.
I've fried my i7 CPU. I have a flat head screwdriver, Can you make a video me how I build a new one from scratch.
Hello Brue Computing, I have a question. My Dell XPs System Model is XPS 15 9560 I want to replace the ssd for a 1TB ssd I don't know if the size of my ssd is the same that the dimension you said on the video 2280
I have a XPS 15 9550 with 1TB hard disc that needs to be replaced
with the HD replacement will OS and applications have to be reinstalled ?
That depends. If you have a model that has both an SSD and a regular hard drive inside it, it will depend on whether you installed the OS to the SSD or not. If you only have a hard drive and no SSD, then yes, everything will have to be reinstalled because you're effectively wiping the storage by replacing the drive.
my dell xps is suddenly turned off it does not turn on 1 month ago it flashes in yellow signal please help me to find the solution
Can i put in a 97wh battery into my laptop which has the 56wh battery? I have an xps 9550 from years ago and still use it now. I have the 56wh battery and it has 2 hard drives, 2.5inch ssd and a 32gb m.2 ssd which came with the system. Can i use a 97wh battery and put that in place of the 56wh battery if i remove the 2.5inch ssd? I read you can do this with the 84wh battery but what about the 97wh? 6GTPY is the model of the 97wh battery, so if its that model, will it 100% work on the xps 15 9550?
Aye, good videos!
Could you do a Dolphin emulator test on the intel 520?
Keep up the great work
the intel HD not the biggest problem on emulation, you should look for a processor with 2cores with maximum clock possible(4cores arent used by dolhpin)I believe intel HD can handle a max of 900p in full speed if you have a good cpu.
Please don't pull on the heatpipes if you don't want to bend (= ruin) them. Apart from that, very helpful. Thank!
Good point, thanks.
does it suport hard disck drive?
Do you know if the fans can be disassembled? Would like to clean the blades and housing as well.
Probably, but not something I've done.
Am I able to change the graphics card? I would like the GTX 970m for example...
No.
having replaced my xps 15 9550 mother board with a seconds board i am having boot up inconsistencies reboot never works only cold start ups work some of the time. , i have noticed that my service tag is different and the asset tag is as previous , bios upgrades do not update,. should both tags be the same, if so which one should be changed and how and or should i do a clean install of windows, . or do i have a completely different problem. laptop works fine once booted up. tried all bios, firmware updates nothing works in the f2 diagnostics i cannot change any tags. dell support doesn't want to know anything as it is out of warranty and board was not from them, thank in advance
The Service Tag will correspond to the machine the mainboard was taken from. I don't know of any way of changing this but it shouldn't be the cause of reboot issues.
Does it reboot correctly if you use something like a Linux Live USB stick? May be a Windows issue rather than a fault with the replacement board.
I was stupid and used a needle nose pliars to secure the battery plug and I saw a few sparks now battery isn't detected, did I short the battery or blow out a chip on the motherboard that detects the battery?
Errk, that's not great. Only way to be sure would be test with a known good battery, hopefully isn't damage to the mainboard.
@@BrueComputing Thanks for the response, I wonder is there a chip in the battery that communicates with the motherboard or is it on the main motherboard? So the laptop still works on battery (it stays powered on when the power supply is removed). But yeah even the bios says no battery installed. I also somehow jacked up the touch pad haha. And I stripped two of the screw heads out holding down the battery, they are in there tight. This was not my best work haha.
Pleaseeeeeeee! could you tell me what kind of screwdriver I need to use to open this laptop, I have already bought two Precision Screwdriver sets and none of them worked!
he said it was a t5 torx
T6. Also thought it was T5 initially. T5 kind of works but not if the screws are firmly set.
Sadly, many procedures were obscured by your hands....so, somewhat frustrating in following your tutorial! Appreciated the mention of thermal paste refresh!
Is it just me or were the screws very screws in and very hard to in screw?
Did you ever tried to head laptop processors? xD That would be so awesome haha
If I get the version with the smaller battery is it possible to upgrade to the larger battery?
Jarlath Healy yes i wanted to find that out too.
Yes it is, and it's pretty simple, too. just remove the (battery, HDD) drive cariage and the SATA interposer cable and your are ready to go to put the big battery in (same screwholes).
Great video. What do you think about swapping out the nvidia 960m in there for a new 1050 (same power requirements).
is it possible?
no
If the 9550 and newer 9560 have the same chassis you should be able to swap the entire motherboard to the newer one that has the kaby lake cpu and nvidia pascal graphic chip, however i'm not sure if you can buy the part from dell, you would have to go do some research
holy fuck, I haven't thought about that.. (changin the 9550 motherboard with the 9560 one) I have to do some research
Can i do the same for 9560 model ?
I believe the 9560 is essentially the same.
Yes, there are the same, only it has 5 screws on the heatsink.
WHOOOOOSSSSS THAT? BRUE COMPUTING!
Can you please test BeamNG.Drive with HD 620? I'm getting a core i5 machine except with HD 630 and I am curious to see how it handles graphically, as I know the processor is fine for that game. I'm not going to use it as a full-time gaming machine so don't tell me to put a GPU in it :P
Do you think it is possible to replace i5 cpu with i7?
No, to do that you'd have to replace the whole mainboard.
Thanks! I can get i5 9550 pretty cheap so I was wondering can I upgrade it easily but I guess this will be enough. I still think this laptop is really good!
The i5-6300HQ in the i5 version of the 9550 is still a quad-core chip, so I'd be pretty happy with that.
type of screwdriver?
Torx T5 or T6 for the screws in the base, small crossheads for the ones under the XPS flap. Same for inside.
Hello, as you said, you have forgotten the link to the service manual ... ;-) Thanks !!
one question : In this configuration, do you think you could add a secondary ssd drive 2.5 inches on the left side under the battery ? (edit) i have my answer which is no because the battery is larger than in an SSD+HDD configuration where it could have been possible...
There is a way to replace the battery with a smaller battery to give you room for a 2.5 inch ssd/hdd
can you upgrade gpu
No, it is soldered to the mainboard.
My motherboard is dead
Looks easier than Macbook Pro to fix
