      There were three iterations of the Northstar. The first had the head gasket issue, the second were oil burners (my 2001 DTS) and third were oil leakers (my 2007 and 2011 DTS) but as said, good overall cars.

    Very methodical and think about what you’re doing, it’s always good to see. It’s interesting seeing you come, for the most part, to the same process/decision points as I did when getting into it this past year dealing with lots of old and dirty. Most people would freak if they saw how much we’d decide to use the pressure washers on the interior! But of course, best you experiment on your own rides to see what can be done, which is why having different levels/types is always good. What pressure washer(s) you using? After my last Honda 3300 died I took a chance on the electrics again to see if they’d improved. If you haven’t tried them lately, which by the looks I don’t think yours is, at least what you used in the video....it’s a smaller marketed feature, barely two words in description sometimes. Sts (start/stop tech) allows you to operate way less overhead out the gate, less water/risk of damage, throw a cover over it and almost no noise, and without waste I go to/use it in less than 2 seconds at any given time. Always being hyper ready to go then causes me to use it/clean more things better/cheaper. Excuse the chatter if you’re on top of it. Good work my man, keep taking pride in what you do.

    • @wolfgangiceclaw
      @wolfgangiceclaw Před 2 lety +1

      @@erynlasgalen1949 A head gasket is and easy fix, IF you have the room to do it. Replacing the head gaskets in that car is a major pain because there is no room to work. The easiest way to replace the head gaskets and install a new timing chain is to drop the entire front sub frame with the engine and transmission from the bottom. Also to make sure the new head gasket doesn't blow again involves installing a head stud kit to replace the head bolts and you must remove the engine to install a stud kit.

      @@RodneyFreeman I owned a 91 and 93 Allante. The 93 had the northstar in it and I believe it was one of the first if not the first vehicles it was used in. I drove the car daily pushing it always for well over 100k miles before I traded it on my first 500SL. I never had one single issue with the car mechanically or otherwise other then a few small silly repairs that were all covered by it's long high mileage warranty that it came with from new. Not one issue with the motor or drive train at all. I have read all the opinions online so there must be something to them. Just not my experience at all. It would also seem that the problems some people have had have been blown up and exaggerated by the easiness and accessibility the internet so it comes across way worse then actual reality. Just wanted to share my personal hands on with it and 2 cents realizing I am just one person in the whole experience.

      I know in my teen years I would do this with my cars. Un-bolt the seats, the whole shebang. Took me 8 hours and I didn't have any of the fancy tools but just a shop vac and wash rags. So if you cut the time down by using the proper equipment and then give it a semi-pro ($65) to pro ($125) that might help you put a number on it. I figure it would take 3 to 4 hours to detail right, which from me 30 years ago until this video I've never seen done again. Hope that helps. I'm no detailer so when you add in the cost of materials, chemicals & waxes, I'm sure those costs can rise.
      I know I'd gladly pay for someone to properly detail my vehicle. I paid over $100 for a hack job and they missed an entire half being 1 of 2 cup holders was clean and 2 rims weren't even cleaned... I paid more in tips to a kid that did a better job at a regular car wash and even brought my 2nd car so he could finish it after the cheap wash run-through.

Wouldn't it be easier to just clean the steering wheel first, then you wouldn't have to cover up the dash and worry about stuff flying off the steering wheel on to the dash? 1 thing I noticed instantly on your videos, you give a very descriptive play by play. So many pro detailers never really say what products they are using. Unless they are sponsored and trying to upsale of course. Speaking for everyone who arent pro's, we appreciate knowing what you are using and why.

    Did you miss the hidden center console? You lift the arm rest and you pull up on that strap, its where the middle seat belts stay hidden, took me a year to find mine when I had a Deville.

    If you don’t wanna pay for an expensive can of carpet dye, a rattle can of regular grey primer works just as good. Use it all the time. I’ve used Krylon Red Cherry spray paint in red carpet before as well to blend in sun faded areas on the high spots. Works great and inexpensive

    I had a 97 and an 03 STS and I tell you, these were great cars. The northstar engine was powerful. The leather seats were more comfortable than the furniture in your house. Every luxury detail was superb.
    I’m sure the auctioneer who sells this is going to call it “a meticulously maintained automobile “😅😅. Little does the buyer know.

    Great editing too, very enjoyable video to watch. I like that your video had more time devoted to exterior, other CZcamsrs spend about 95% on interior detail and breeze through the exterior in like 1 minute. I like that you said what products you are using and which polishers. Great tips on carpet, dye, steamer, iron remover, and other helpful tips. You are a great detailer and a great video editor 🙂
