AudioQuest isn’t supposed to improve picture quality, they are built for better audio quality. If you spend 5k on speakers and 3k on processing/amplification, why wouldn’t you want a high quality connection between them.? Do an A/B with their interconnects on a stereo setup, you’ll hear it.
I know it's 4 years ago, but we're talking about a HDMI-cable. A HDMI-cable is *entirely* digital. Audio/video it doesn't matter. It will send the audio signal digitally as well. AudioQuest doesn't change ANYTHING about the quality of anything it receives/sends. And, on the topic of cables that could theoretically benefit from improved build quality, an analogue cable will still just send your signal. If there's any noise on, for whatever reason other than mechanical failures or poor build quality (aka loud noise or crackling stuff), you simply can't tell the difference if it's a basic cable or AQ.
Great information. On my last visit recently to Best Buy to purchase a subwoofer resulted. The salesman suggested I buy an AudioQuest subwoofer cable. I resisted fortunately. The pitch was that Silver content and straight strand versus twisted strand wire would reduce distortion. This seemed to be esoteric overkill at the time. On the subject of HDMI cables. Is there any advantage of using an earc cable from the from a TV that supports earc to a Marantz 7007 that has only arc HDMI ports? I don't think the AVR supports lossless audio. (Likely I will use earc cable regardless)
Hey Chana, do you have any experience with the monoprice 2.1 certified or even the noncertified HDMI cables? Are they any good? Looking for 6ft or less. Thanks.
Hi, Ryan! Chances are, a 6-foot cable will pass the tests. Here is a link where I have tested HDMI cables - technodad.biz/HDMITest
What are your thoughts on PowerOverEthernet cables/systems for long runs instead of straight HDMI cables?
Techno Dad, I just ordered the ATEVON hdmi cables that are on your thumb print of this video and was wondering if there a good cable.
Actually I bought monoprice HDMI cables and used it on my Bose lifestyle 650, had all kinds of issues with ARC and HDR. I used the included Bose cable, same thing. I found an older audioquest green cable I thought I lost and boom, everything worked flawlessly, not sure if the picture was that much better.
TD please find out if any 4K short throw "gaming" projectors are in the pipeline to replace the aging Optoma GT series. Thanks.
What's up Jonesy? No clue about that but if I hear anything I'll let you know.
I just got a Sony X900h 55 inch tv, trying to figure out what hdmi cables to use for my Samsung T650 Soundbar, Xbox One X, PS4 Pro, Switch and when I can finally get my hand on a PS5 and Xbox Series X... I'm new to the 4K stuff. I've been using a 2007 LG HD tv for the longest. What do you recommend?
I decided to go with Zeskit 8K Ultra HD High Speed 48gbps. Hope they work!
Do you recommend connecting all my components directly to my Yamaha rx-a760 then to tv with single hdmi arc or connecting my components to tv hdmi and use arc to receiver for the best picture and sound quality. Components consist of U-verse box and blu ray player. Thank you. Great channel by the way
Did you determine an answer ?
Sir let me know lg 43uk6320pte HDR10 settings and how watch cable tv with HDR10 mode . I am frome bangladesh . Generaly i am not found HDR setting . LG says its tv with HDR 10+ pleas sir thanks.
What is the audio return channel for I have it on my Samsung what would I plug into it
sound bar
Based of your recommendation of one of your older videos I tried Secure Max hdmi cables and I also have Audioquest cables in my setup . And I honestly can’t tell the difference in video quality . I don’t see a point in spending hundreds of dollars on HDMI cables but to each is own
Good to know, I'm glad I am not missing anything by having moderate cables.
Yup!
You wouldn't be missing anything with cheap cables either.
The debate isn’t necessarily just about video/audio quality. Quite often it’s in the construction of the cable, quality of the connectors and how long the cable lasts. I’ve had cheap Chinese cables come apart. And while I don’t necessarily advocate paying money for the big brands, I’ve been lucky enough to buy Audioquest or CA at less than half price which then makes them only marginally more expensive than cheap ones. Plus at least a 5 year warranty which in itself says something.
Just saw this video. My wife bought a Panasonic Plasma in 2013 and we bought an HK 3700 surround system and we have JBL floor standards. For video we both checked HDMI for video on about 4 different Audioquest levels. We settled on Chocolate. That gave best bang for the buck for video. For audio HDMI vodka was best. Their speaker cables are great too. As you say. Folks should just try them out and don’t be afraid to try.
I had a M series Monster Cable for my Apple TV. I replaced it for a Fusion 4K on Amazon. OMG what difference. Its BRIGHTER and more VIVID. Made a difference.
So the pioneer has anomorthic stretch? If not why not the ub-9000?
a lot of times that you will see is the cable will in fact display but the depth of color or sound clarity is different. I have cheap cable and they did display the picture. After I got some good cables I had to get my TV and Projector recalibrated because the colors were so much better with the better cables. I have an Atmos 7.4.2 sytstem and the sound was more crisp as well. and we did a blind sound and vision test to see which was better and there is a noticable difference.
here's my question:
monoprice premium certified 4k hdmi cables or AudioQuest Ocean???
Monoprice would be the safer bet!
I like the mono price cables, I haven’t tried amazon cables
They're both trusted brands; can't really go wrong with either of 'em.
I would rather spend the money on better equipment hands down.
Word!
@@TechnoDad what's the best hdmi cables for an oled that's affordable
@@toya2001183 chocolate or cinnamon if you can't afford carbon. Anything above carbon is for sound exclusively.
The Monoprice looks like some cheap knock off made to look of great quality...I would rather trust Rocketfish, Audioquest or my old time personal favorite - Monster Cable...
$$$YEARGH$$$
Thank you for your honest video
Dude! I thought B was the more expensive cable. To my eyes it looked more colorful and dynamic. I'm buying some Amazon hdmi cables!
LOL! Surprise, surprise!
I have enough trouble distinguishing the difference between 1080p and 4K sometimes, so more expensive cables wouldn’t make much sense to me anyway...
I've always just bought a good brand. Rather not a cheap one, but a decent one is fine. Not $300
Good strategy!
I have a Denon AVR and can only get 60Hz going through the AVR. Denon tech told me to use Audioquest cables(I'm using Rocketfish 8k 48Gbps). If I go straight from my series x to my TV i can get 120Hz, just wondering if Audioquest would get 120Hz?
Double-check your tv settings and xbox settings first. Rocketfish 8k cables aren't cheap either.
@Mr. Popo , I got Audioquest cables, but had it connected to the ARC imput to the TV. I guess that imput doesn't support 4k/120hz. It works now and I'm happy with these cables, even though they were $100 each.
Thanks Techno Dad
I used aq's hdmi and rca.Rca can give you real upgrade but hdmi?well,I can't tell.
I guess it also depends on your system. If someone has $15,000-20,000 invested in home theater system I do sometimes find it funny that someone would not even consider spending more than $20 bucks on HDMI cable.
Tecno Dad:
HDMI cable to RCA,
which one would you reccomend. I have a new Samsung TV connecting it to an old Receiver.
Samsung Un49MU6500 to a Pioneer receiver DSC-D603S, 5.1 surround sound Bose Accoustimass 7
I would connect via Optical cable.
Amazon or Monoprice cables for me all day. Anything more than that is just a waste of money & would be purely for aesthetic reasons.
XpertJoey I switched from Mediabridge hdmi to Monoprice and definitely don’t regret ot
Monoprice ✊🏽
I've heard reports say that monoprice lies about their hdmi cable types and speeds
Monoprice cables also have nice aesthetics too... I find that I really like them cuz you can get 'em in almost any color to match your decor!
For me there was a clear difference. Which audioquest cable did you use in this test? You had several.
Yeah, this test feels like nothing. But I would suggest using the carbon Audioquest
Sounds like a good test. I may buy higher priced cables because you don’t buy them very often. Not 100 dollars a cable though.
Not even $10 is worth it with the cheap shitty way they make cables nowadays... Unless, they were like $10 for a pack of three?
Did you have issues running 4K 120 Hz with the cheaper cable?
As long as the cheaper cable is HDMI 2.1, it should be fine - technodad.biz/HDMITest
@@TechnoDad just ordered a 7 ft AQ Pearl for my Series S, curious to compare to other HDMI cables myself, main concern with cheap cables over the years is longevity, heat and time could cause the cable to break down faster. What are your thoughts on this?
I'd still buy a good hdmi cable, If I'm on a budget id buy the audio quest cinnamon cable. Still getting a good amount of pure silver. Anything above a carbon hdmi is purely audio
I have the audio quest forest model, not too spendy. Works better than my previous Walmart buy
That shirt is poppin i must say. Imagine that shirt with some diamond cables on the screen, id be sold.
I now use your shirt as refrence when i adjust saturation😂 .....just messing with you😀
😂🤣🤣🤣
It depends on what you spent on your tv☝️how fast is your tv processing info? Ive used audioquest for 10 years. I spent a nice chunck of change on them but that was it! Audioquest stand behind their prouduct. Had an issue with my 450$ vodka, call them up 2 weeks later i had a new one free of charge. I know the diffrence between a great cable and a cheap cable. Years ago my local pc richards had a set up with identical tvs and blu ray players to show what diffrence high quality cables can do. I found audioquest as the best in the game and never looked back. Even my stereo speaker wires are audioquest and yes they are also directional. Just like you cell phone the faster your signal the better your image.
I was hoping a techno dad shirt was the blue with flower print you've got on. Where do I buy that?
I got it at TJ Maxx!
@@TechnoDad No luck finding it online, but thanks for the response! I didn't expect it.
I found what makes a difference is how fast the signal is. I have lots of audioquest cables but my new cable at 48 gbs looks better than the 18 gbs. Speaker cable is really worse for being ripped off on though.
What did you mean about Speaker cable is really worse for being ripped off?
I don't see how an expensive HDMI cable can make a difference. After all it's just sending 1's and 0's, so the 1's and 0's either make it to the other side, or they don't. It's not like having speaker cable that's far too thin.
I'm not an expert by any means, so if anybody has a logical explanation as to WHY an expensive cable is better , I'd be delighted to hear it..
There is no explanation because it’s impossible. They probably think expensive memory sticks make their photos look better
You are correct. No difference whatsoever. Possibly better connectors, a bit more robust, but it will hurt your pocket more. A data string of 1s and 0s need to be as you said the same from point a to point b. As for silver, silver is cheap as chips. Look at the price of precious metals. Now signal flow direction, oh please, electrons do not care, they will flow along the cable regardless of direction. If you connect a hdmi cable and it works that's it, you cannot improve on it. You are an expert because you have put logical theory to work out the correct answer 👍😁
My projector hdmi cable is run through my ceiling, and behind my projector screen. I needed a 50’ hdmi cable, but the distance is too long for regular cables, hence my projector wasn’t working properly. I had to buy an hdmi over fiber optic cable from Sewell. For short runs, you really need to pay attention to the cable speed ratings, and you will want the fastest you can get to support a 4K signal. ( 18 Gigs per second at 60 hz) Anything less is sub par. I bought a 50’ cable that that can be up to 300’ long with no signal loss. I sell low and medium voltage cable, and it is true that you get what you pay for. I didn’t like the $150 price tag for the cable but, I am now getting the full lossless signal for a proper 4K experience.
@@I_AM_HUGO you are correct in that a decent longer cable sufficant to support your needs. Standard short runs 1m do not require expensive HDMI cables. As long as the spec is right it will work. Glad you are now getting the 4k you require. Enjoy👍
Andy Abraham you are absolutely correct, but I have seen some lower end cables even for short runs. They certainly are not all the same.
The auďioquest black lab subwoofer cable i boughtwhen i got my sb1000 uses what they call long grain copper with gold plated copper connectors anď also has a ground wire on both ends. And the 3 meter cable was only 50 bucks, so not to hard on the wallet.
Hey Channa, is absolutely cracks me up that Audiquest pushes the whole SILVER thing on a digital cable! 😆😆😄😅😄😆😆😆😆😆😆😄😅😅😄😆
Crazy, huh??
@@TechnoDad Very much so...
I just checked out the prices here in Australia from a quality AV store and the AudioQuest Coffee (5 Metre) hdmi costs $1,600 AUD and that's apparently $200 off!
Woah! That's pricey!! Now if I wanted to spend some serious coin on cables, I'd go with Kimber Kable as they just look REALLY COOL!
I work at bestbuy and even with my SIGNIFICANT discount on audio quest cables or any other cables for that matter, I would still get a cheaper cable even if it is slightly worse so long as the cheaper hdmi is still within current standards
I agree TD! I refuse to pay a ton of money on HDMI cables when technically they're ALL the same is what I've read! Great review as always! 👍😊
Gotcha Rafael! I mean, there are some really COOL LOOKING CABLES but I'm not sure I would want to pay for them, LOL!
I use two Audio quest cinnamon cables and there is a noticeable difference in color pop etc. That was about all I could see spending. For me I'm happy with the cables but it's nothing to write home about.
Cool!
Hope ya didn't pay too much $$$ fer 'em!
@@OtomoTenzi been a while since this post but all I can say is you get what you pay for
@@SuperTA329 Yeah, in most cases that's true.
Thank you Techno Dad. You just save me some $$$$$.
I'm a sucker for sound... so I would use the Amazon Basics for the TV, but I'd consider a Carbon cable for the HD DVD -> Receiver cable. I'm also considering a Carbon subwoofer cable.
Right on! I hear they do much better for audio than video. If you decide to buy another Carbon cable, please use my link - amzn.to/2QCi3LW
The difference would have to be really big for me to spend the extra money so I’m with you on that
Shielding matters in many environments with high EMI/RFI. Unshielded or inadequately shielded cables results in induced noise, both audio and video.
This is correct!
I personally experiences some benefits on the audio side, BUt when i asked a specific question to AQ about the differences between the VODKA eARC VS Carbon 48 when it came to audio, he got impatient and just told me that i should spend as much as I can afford. What a buzz kill for a fan of the product. I am returning all of my AQ. His answer tells me that AQ does not know anything the differences in their lineup
I agree with you. I actually bought the Chocolate cable when I bought my new TV's. The reason being is that the salesman was actually quite knowledgeable about the TV'S themselves, which was a pleasant surprise for me, and he was actually a nice and likable guy as well. Since I was spending a mint on the TV's I allowed him to talk my wife and I into buying the expensive cables for our TV's .
What was my finding? I couldn't see any difference. however, my daughter, who has better eye sight than me, claimed that she could see a difference. To put her answer in context, I have an old CRT TV and she can hear a high pitched annoying signal from that TV which I cannot hear. When I was a young man however, I was able to hear that high pitched signal.
Alas. Those days are over. As for the TV, I guess I will need amazing 4K sight.
Hi Techno dad. True videophiles WILL be able to tell a difference. It's not huge, (I'm not being specific about any manufacturer in particular here), but it's there, in some more premium grade HDMI cabling. You're right in a sense regarding diminishing returns. I wouldn't spend thousands on an HDMI cable. I won't spend anymore than about £100 pounds on a 0.5 to 1 metre cable - MAX. I've spent more than that in the past but couldn't see any more improvement to the image. Where it gets better with more expense imo is sound. But I'm not anywhere as near into audio than I am video, so it's rather moot.
But if you have a good set-up then you really don't want (or need lol) a weak link... And that includes power/mains delivery...Cabling, conditioning, fuses, plugs and IEC's. The key to greatness is not breaking the chain. End of.
Cheers
Audioquest cables are mainly for sound. They literally said they are really formulated for sound more so than video. Even professional reviews are basing them mainly on sound quality. To compare an audio specialized cable in video performance wasn’t even worth it.
Side note: use a Best Buy employee’s discount. Stupid cheap. Used a friend’s discount for my Carbon, and my sound system definitely increased. Voice clarity, bass, sound resonance, everything definitely improved greatly. Audioquest cables are for those of us who are more attuned to sound quality than the average person.
what are your thoughts on polk audio S55 speakers ????
Again. If it's a digital cable like HDMI and it meets the HDMI specs of the device then there is no difference. Even "a little bit". That's not how digital works. Now yes, it could last longer if it's made better, not corrode etc which is why a get something decent like monoprice. I'll happily admit to spending much more money on my speaker wire, and back in the day my composite and SVIDEO cables but those were analog signals and I was easily able to a/b them against cheap cables. But I'm still not going to spend thousands vs hundreds even in that case like some of my friends do. The ROI is to small once you pass a certain point.
100% Agreed! Nothin' like a well-informed shopper with some common sense these days.
Just get the fiber optic hdmi cable you get the cleanest signal
At WHAT cost??? Aren't those like hella expensive!
Those zeskits cables are awesome for the price thanks dad
Glad you like them!
As long as the cable meets whichever HDMI standard you need it to meet and is not defective or picking up interference it will work the same as any higher priced cable. If one wants to buy a high end cable that's fine. They should be told though that all they are getting is a better built cable, but that's it. It will not result in a better picture or sound.
Yup!
Fair enough!
Fyi. Audioquests biggest help is in places with high interference. So people in San Francisco would benefit the most.
I see.
I havw Amazon cables troughout my system , i did buy expensive cables and found Hand shake issues ect
Hi! That's strange, the expensive cable should work!
@@TechnoDad See all the $$$ you could've saved?

Lol! TJ Max!
I’ve always used monster hdmi . But I hear audio quest is better but not sure if it’s worth 300+ though. When you can still buy monster at Walmart
So what happens if you use a HDMI 1.4 cable with a UHD player?
Chances are you won’t get 4K HDR signals through that cable.
A cameras focus is never the *exact* same when recording at different times, even when manually done. Also, this is just pixel peeping, you would never notice that difference sitting on your couch *even* if it was side-by-side.
Let me see if I get it right. the upgraded cable is going to enhance features I have in the hardware.
Not really. I tested all these and the cheaper cable tested better than the AudioQuest cable.
To be honest with you I have three audioquest HDMI cable at three different levels and you can see the different but like you said it's marginal so where HDMI 2.1 come out and I buy a new TV I'm only going by the cheap one or the one in the middle from audioquest I'm not buying the real expensive ones no more
Just like I said, the smaller the tv you have the less you need the more expensive cables. Now, if you have a 170 inch image, it will make a difference. I have a projection image and could tell the difference right away..but then my pixels are bigger than a 70 inch tv. If you you did not see the difference it means you have a smaller image, smaller pixels and do not need the AudioQuest cables.
What HDMI Cable are you using for your TV right now??
Some cheap ish ones
@@TechnoDad okay
Thanks for proving what I always thought!
You're welcome!
There's a lot of different HDMI Cable I get a hand full myself.but I feel cheap cables depends what you want to connect..like for me the Cable box don't really look for the best picture for as long as.it looks good..cheap cables works. But,my movie projector with blue ray player I go better..but not all that crazy neither..there are some really good cables $20 to $30 bucks that has been good for me,but to go beyond that than you have money to spend,I won't go more than that..
Totally agree!
The is equipment meant to check the connection I thought I was going to see that here but I suppose test is interpreted differently.
Audioquest themselves say that it’s about sound improvement not picture
Yep. I didn't see any diff btwn a 4 $ cable and the AQ Forest in pic quality. But i clearly could hear some improvements in the audio quality.

I truly liked the Amazon cable better. The saturation seemed a bit lower on the Audioquest. I tend to like saturation to be slightly higher that the "correct" setting though. Looks like I'm sticking with Amazon cables and spending my savings on Netflix and Amazon Prime subscriptions.
How about audio?
I have Audioquest on all of my TVs and I'm very satisfied with them!!

Great video brother.. but I gotta say.. I have a set of audio quest cable when I got my oled.. then I tried on my benq projector and I tell you very very.. slight difference on image compared to my cheaper ones... so.. like you said.. if you are a BALLER..And want to spend that money, then hey... go right ahead...
I am wonderjng why you didn’t check for timing of the cable? Or if HDR works etc. and more importantly at longer lengths? That’s what matters - not much to call out on a six foot cable.
HDMI are a slight “Wild West” - sometimes certified and sometimes not. Sometimes labeled “HDMI premium” which have a QR CODE to go to a website listing. And there are practices that they rate 1m or 2m cables and copy and paste them across all lengths which usually aren’t the same especially through copper.
Nobody talks about transition rate (gbps).
Does it ACTUALLY qualify with the stats it claims.
The longer lengths are what’s important.... preconstruction or remodeling putting a cable in the wall. Finish that up and then you go to the freshly mounted TV and the cable doesn’t pass what you’d hoped through it. It’s too late or you didn’t check it before installing.
HDMI cables are important. But nobody it accurately looking at them.
I buy rocketfish ones they work for me
The fact people argue over this subject basically proves that there is very little difference at all. What I want to know is how much Best Buy marks up their high end cables because I swear by the way they push them they must have the biggest markup of any item in the store.
It will matter when the cable stops working. Over 1,700 CRITICAL reviews on Amazon Basic HDMI cables. Wonder why...maybe they aren't so great? Don't buy a cable unless it's certified to 18gbs. You can find these for around $10 each.
Hi! I didn't use specifically Amazon Basic HDMI cables, I just bought these from Amazon for $12: amzn.to/2GgjkXg

Interesting since HDMI cable’s carry the audio signal as well as video and you didn’t mention the sound at all!? Listen to your HDMI cable’s as well, sound is equally important in a home theater and is where you are gonna want the best. 😋
It’s a digital signal sound and picture are the same among HDMI cables
@@JayMammoth yes., we all know the signal is digital, but if you have listened, you would know, we all don’t know there is a difference in the sound.
If you want to believe there’s a difference in sound go ahead, there is no difference though
@@JayMammoth it’s very simple to prove, put in the Amazon cable, listen to your favorite song in two channel stereo, then take it out, put in the Audioquest cable, listen again, and get back with me, I have a pretty high end setup, so I can’t guarantee you anything, but it is also fine if you can’t hear it. Everything matters, so if you have a resolving high end system, you owe it to yourself to listen,
@@Kasper911band There’s no point in me doing that. The pros in Audio have already done comparisons of the overpriced cables and cheaper ones. They refer to the overpriced cables as snake oil.

Audioquest should be better than Amazon! But is the percentage improvement equivalent to the percentage increase in price? If not, you're better off with a certified cable from a reliable brand where the price relative to Amazon is more equivalent to the increase in performance.
He makes a lot of sense on point of diminishing returns. The only issue is when it comes to durability and longevity against corrosion. The Audioquest hdmi cables are cold welded at the termination points rather than crimped on at the ends. That means less gaps for oxygen and moisture to get in to corrode the copper and aluminum over time. Then there is the amount of shielding and how much the sleeves are air tight. All of that adds up to you not having to re-run a long hdmi cable inside the walls after 2 years or so. Cheaper ones degrade over time and eventually have to be replaced due to signal loss. Then there is audio quality sent to high end preamps or receivers. Ignore all of this if you use a budget sound bar instead and if there is no in wall wire run involved.
Lol it funny But on the video, b was looking better to me, good video and good info
Thank you for watching!
