  • An inside look at an ER case in which a dog presented in severe respiratory distress and needed an emergency thoracocentesis performed.
    In this video, we demonstrate how to perform thoracocentesis (thoracentesis) on a dog with pneumothorax. The dog in this video sustained motor vehicle trauma resulting in pneumothorax (collapsed lungs) and respiratory distress.

    What will you do after aspiration i means you suture the wound or open wound healing?

    Hi, thank you for your videos, so so useful. I would be worried about if the air I am draining comes from into the lungs or from the pneumothorax. Any advice about this?

    Did you use an ultrasound to guide the needle?

      Yes, it is a helpful guide on the best pocket to place the needle and helps us ensure we got as much fluid out as we can.

    My dog was died because of this...but it's too late for her for the treatment and we put her down...

    I asking my self? Does she on this video pumpe the air in the chest or she aspirate air from the pleural cavity?

      the air // fluid is removed from the chest to allow the lung to re-expand. otherwise, tension pneumothorax can be fatal
