On the pitch Mario and Leon are teammates, off the pitch they are becoming so much more.
When Leon joins Mario’s football club ,the pair are moved into a flat with one another where the competitive tension turns sexual. As their relationship intensifies, the pair become inseparable, yet Mario is desperate to hide their love from his teammates. As rumours of their relationship begin to circulate, the boys are forced to make a choice; their careers, or each other. A forbidden story of romance between two football players, Mario shines a light on the pressures put upon footballers, managers and associates alike to keep quiet about players who identify as gay in favour of preserving their careers.

This is one of the best movies I've seen in a very long time, you feel how they both fall in love with each other, there is passion, there is drama, it's a beautiful love story, I totally recommend it to you!

Just watched this yesterday. A phenomenal movie and one of my favorite LGBT movies now. The two actors were great and had amazing chemistry. (SPOILER!!!!!!!) The ending was realistic and it gave the movie more depth than had they ended up together and lived happily ever after. I saw Aaron (Leon) in an interview say that outside of the church, football is still very backwards thinking when it comes to homosexuality. I don't think this movie needs a sequel. I think the story was perfect and leaves the viewer wondering would they have chosen Mario's path, or Leon's path. If it were me, I don't know which one I would've chosen. That's the power of ending it the way they did.

watched this masterpiece again (& again)... best scene. Mario & Leon asleep in bed (Mario naked) and has repeated sleep jumps, (nightmares/stress), Leon wakes (1:15:55), and strokes Mario's arm, his 'jumps' are gone.... a beautiful scene - love is love. Kudos to both young actors. The sex scenes are wonderfully done. Kudos to the writers & Director. The mum's reaction to the 'outing' note the dad gets "So... he has good taste...", yeah I know I could go on and on... I'm in love with this movie.... I'd show the trailer at half time at every footy match on the big screen, again and again ! Come on Sky Sports, grow some balls and get with the times, be a leader... change attitudes!

it's really good, the "thug", Martin Walde, will blow your mind (he gets 'blown' too), a really hot actor - its not a gay romance, more a bromance, but the above scene, and their shower scene, will make you... (enjoy the movie) and the story line aint that bad either..... seriously - an underrated movie, catch it if you can
Mario is excellent and paints a very meaningful picture of gay men in current day football/soccer or any sport even. Cried numerous times (more than I have for Love, Simon in fact :P) and is hands down my favourite gay film.

The part that hurt the most was how quickly Leon moved on. He was the first to fall in love, and the first to fall out of love. I can’t blame him though. I just finished watching this movie, now my heart is broken. I needed a different ending. Please make a sequel, it is time to have more movies with happy endings for LGBTQ+ people and these characters should be together and be happy. The acting is fantastic, there is a great chemistry between the main actors. I just need a happy ending period.

Why did I stay up to watch this? Oh my, it was brilliant! It's so sad when you are willing to throw everything that means the world to you away for the one you love but they don't feel the samr. What's sad in this movie is that they both loved each other but they just weren't on the same page. This was an absolutely beautiful movie! 🔥😭

I almost died after watching this movies ! Oh lord can’t stop crying
I just watched this movie last night, and it was so damn good. I honestly hoped, despite a few comments I checked, that there would be a happy ending on it. Infortunately it hadn't. Neverthless, the movie worked out just fine. It's a slow pacing movie, that builds up characters to make them believable. I definetely enjoyed it.
The sad ending destroyed me, won't leave my head for awhile, I'm so sick of sad endings and this one is one of the worsts I've seen.

The hard pill he had to swallow was that he treated the guy he loved like shit just to keep up his profile on the field and it cost him BIG! He lost him after the locker room rant where he basically denied him in front of everybody.
Leon deserved so much more! He dreamt the same dreams and everything was taken away just because of how he identify himself. I'm glad he had other plans for his future but still the frustrations being unable to carry out one's dreams is still ridiculous!

jesus!!!...... this film was so moving... im not usually into films with subtitles ( however )... man o man.. i cant fault leon for moving on.... i cant fault mario for how he dealt with the pressures of being a young sportsmen.. im not sure how much time passed when mario visited leon towards the end,,,, anyway, this film is a must watch!!!

saw it yesterday here in Germany. Superb acting. Tender, sexy and..(no spoilers) ......A conventional drama at first sight, but the acting and the chemistry are fantastic. One half of the audience were younger women.🙄

I thought it was much more of a soccer movie.. and hopefully enough people in Soccer-led nations will be able to sympathize. It's just a spark and a hope for change. I think there have been articles with The Guardian Newspaper about not a few but dozens of pro players that are not out.

this movie made me depressed but tbh it’s the reality... it’s all about choices. you can tell leon still has deep feelings towards mario but at the end mario made his decision. tbh I’d love a sequel, not bc of I wanted a happy ending but bc I’d like to see them showing how the football industry is towards gay players in the inside, mario rebelling against them and leon thriving in his chosen career.
