This was a perfect example of a reviewer showing a flaw in design. Can’t blame Mat in this at all, as goofy as he is sometimes, this is a complete failure in design.
I know other manufacturers have been doing that for years. I am not familiar with this particular Porsche model, but did they follow that horrendous trend on this one?

The ergonomics of cars is actually disimproving considerably. It probably peaked 10 or 15 years ago, but now its a mess. People like Mat need to keep on calling it out.
No one believes that. No car from 15 years ago is nicer than a new one. Tyler Hoover has had such a bizarre influence on people thinking that some Mercedes from 2004 that is literally falling apart is nicer than a new one.

Its not a Porsche innovation, the entire VW group uses this sort of armrest, have a Skoda Octavia myself. I dont see this as a flaw at all because usually you would put the armrest on an upwards angle for more comfort before putting it more forward, so then theres space for both a bottle and the armrest in its most comfortable position. Theres little reason to keep the angle flat and push the armrest just forwards like he did in this video. Its legit gonna happen to nobody ever and even so, why pretend like its a Porsche issue when you could "reveal" that "big flaw" in a Golf? Besides those armrests are far better than some of the competitors, so id gladly take the "flawed" armrest that has far more potential for comfort than other armrests.

@@derekth71 £80 is a bargain. Audi charge much more, and you still don't get the alerts for cameras or other user reported road hazards. I have the virtual cockpit on mine and I can't show Waze on it, and it won't show the built-in maps either, when another app is actively navigating. Sometimes it does get confused and shows the map, but usually it doesn't. I like to see the bends of the road I am currently in, so I can adjust my speed accordingly.

I know it's a design flaw. It's something that should've been tested and worked out. BUT, I truly don't think any of us are idiotic enough to slide an armrest with an unopened bottle or drink.

This is the best compliment you can give Matt 😂 he truly is one of the best reviewers out there that doesn’t shy away from pointing out errors in design or annoyances with certain cars.
Car companies give cars to people like this on purpose, for that reason. Remember The Stig on Top Gear test driving the first Koenigsegg without a wing? It went off track at high speed due to lack of downforce. The Stig told Christian von Koenigsegg he needed to put a wind on for downforce and he listened and put wings on all of his cars afterwards. Major car reviewers are used as test beds. Caparo also did that with their T1 car on Top Gear.
Ig we should see it the other way. The armrest was 1st set up and they realized why shld they jst leave the room under armrest when it's extended so they added a cup holder so that u can rest your arm and also ergonomically hold the coffee around the holder itself.

Having to choose between an armrest and a cup holder is a major design flaw. Most other brands don't have this problem.

the mk7 golf i had didn't do that, cause the cupholders were further forward, so moving the armrest forward didn't cover them.
