Why did Carver never do much other than beat Jones when Jones kept going up and down in weight. Tarter was always afraid to fight Jones when he was at his best and when Jones stayed at a consistent weight. The weight changes slowed Jones down and he stopped being what he was due to going to heavyweight and then to super middleweight and then light heavyweight . These body changes affected him in ways that his Dad had told him it would.

To me, this is when Roy Jones started to decline rapidly. After winning the heavyweight championship of the world from John Ruiz, he should have retired, before maintaining his legacy as one of the greatest boxers of all time. But instead he chose to continue fighting. To get "chinned" by the likes of Antonio Tarver was preventable.

    Great old school 🥊fight

  • @asdfasdf8274
    @asdfasdf8274 Před 7 měsíci +2

    At this point:
Tarver had 22 fights (1 World Title fight and 2 Title Fights in Total)
Jones had 49 fights (24 World Title fights, 2 are amongst the best middleweight and super middleweight boxers of all time)
So Jones had more world title fights than tarver had total fights.
So it is safe to say that not only was Jones affected by the muscle loss his mind was clearly right. He achieved everything he wanted to achieve. Tarver was on the rise. Jones basically was finishing his career.
One was motivated as hell the other one tired of all the fights and records he was breaking.
We all know (whether you are a tarver fan or jones fan) would they have met during their prime years that Jones would have won quite convincingly (minimum 10 rounds).
He dominated a more talented boxer in Toney. So yeah.

Jones Jr didn't have top tier boxing skills. Jones Jr was a physical marvel before facing Ruiz. Roy should have allowed his body to readjust to the weight loss BEFORE training for this fight. He lost his speed, reflexes, explosiveness, things that Jones Jr heavily relied on to win. Mayweather, De La Hoya, Wright and Pacquiao are but a few of the many whose boxing skills won the fight against physically superior opponents. Some mistake speed and power for skill.

Noo in actually they got caught outta they prime....... Tarver vs Roy Prime4prime roy would have made Tarver look lik a C-level fighter...... ad Prime Mike woulda knocked out Holyfield easily

@@chuckElegend Holyfield wasn't in his "prime" when he faced Tyson, either.
Was Tyson in his prime when he was KO'd by Douglas?
Was Douglas in his prime when he was KO'd by Holyfield?
As far as I can remember, Jones Jr ducked a few fighters in his "prime"...
Jones Jr was supposed to fight the winner of the Hopkins vs Trinidad middleweight match, that never happened.
There was a European fighter Darius M...ski that openly called Jones Jr out when Jones Jr was #1 P4P and that fight never happened.
The rematch with James Toney never happened.
All that "in his prime" talk is just straight up bullshit. On paper it looks like Jones Jr and Tyson were invincible. An uppercut by Douglas ended that myth. One left hook by Tarver and Jones Jr was never the same.

сьемка есть со всех сторон. "счетуны" профи уже наверняка посчитали очки постфактум. надо "погуглить" :-) мне показалось победил Тарвер.

The way they edited this fight made Roy look waaaay more active than he was that night. He literally did nothing most the fight. Roy vs John Ruiz was the last time we actually saw the man we all knew and loved.

Roy should have never given Tarver a second fight. He was as taunted into that second fight. Roy should have stayed at 205 and invited Tarver, Hopkins and anyone else who wanted to put on 24 lbs to come on up…

Roy dug deep for that one frfr! Tarver caught him at the right time after the Ruiz fight and was relentless. I wish RJ ended his career that night.

Jones was already defeated before the fight, because Tarver got inside his head, especially with the “excuses” line. Its psychological.
    Tarver had Jone’s number.

Ive never seen the full fight. Just this highlight reel. Going by what I saw here, I think Tarver won. BUT-A LOT of his flurries were a lot of misses. But he also landed some good shots, probably the best shots of the two. Again, in this reel. However-At their best, Roy would wipe the canvas with Tarver. Period.
