power consumption?
Please double check the frame with GAMEPLAY stats. There are some numbers which are messed up with the length of the progress bars (for example at the bottom the one with 98 fps is longer than the one with 104 fps)
Totally with you, i always thought that AMD on laptops is better than Intel, don't know why but i always enjoy it more

@@SBMToxic323 it's 2300$ it seems very expensive, but the performances you can get are priceless (actually they're not but it's a gaming beast) you can find some big deals on best buy soon and for black Fridays + in few months the price will decrease so you can buy it with a good deal or a second hand for maybe 1900$ or less if you're really interested and always check the market

considering the other reviews I saw about the Titan, he accidently switched the numbers. 98fps without DLSS seems legit for the titan this year

Last generation had a Strix G15 with a R9 5900HX and a Radeon RX 6800M.

I picked up one already, but I just settled with the 4080 instead of the 4090. Bench marks I got were really good. I'm very impressed with this laptop. Thanks for the quick review sir always appreciate it.

HOw are the speakers? I tried playing something at microcenter but it seems like wayy too low, more low than my cell phone is that the case? I want a laptop with like semi ok speakers

What are the temps like?
@@umunnacharles5372 haven't had any issues, gamed on it for a few hours then other night and in all it's a pretty awesome laptop.
3 hour battery life and 300 nits display are my biggest gripes especially for this egregious price.
Bump that up to 7 hr battery + 500 nits display and yeah, i'll consider spending $3000 on a "premium" performance laptop.
Scar 18 does that
Matt you should also specify the time parameter for the CPU clock speeds and Temperature graphs. it's hard to get the complete picture without it.

Just watching this review from that laptop, yes, it's a beast, love it! Absolutely fantastic! 4090 paired with this AMD processor and 32GB of ram does the job really good!

Hello! I noticed that there is no port Thunderbolt 4! Does one of the C port replaces this thunderbolt and does the same function? As connecting an external GPU to the PC?

They took ancient Scar 17 chassis with the worst aspects of every Asus Strix laptop in recent years, and produced the cheapest & ugliest looking hunk of a machine of the year imaginable. Bottom of the barrel keyboard and deck; plastic interior and bottom for a fingerprint magnet, with sharp edges and corners that hurt your skin; chassis that flexes, bends and sometimes even cracks around the ports; creaky hinges and wobbly display; unoccupied interior space that could be used to house a bigger battery, a better designed main board, better cooling or expanded PCI-E interface. Lenovo have also taken the same route for their Legion laptops and turned their Legion Pro line-up into not-so-Pro. And both Asus and Lenovo have kept the prices low considering the hardware you get, especially in comparison to top of the line Intel machines.
I hate these manufacturers who treat their customers like dirt, simply because people don't want to pay the same Nvidia & Intel taxes they pass onto the customers with inflated prices, and want to buy the best they can offer on AMD platform. Why is it that 99% of AMD laptops, regardless of the tier of a product and branding, have the worst build quality than the rest? If I'm to pay a hefty price for a top-tier desktop replacement, I wouldn't want to think like I'm treated different from Intel & Nvidia owners from the same company, with the same branding, similar pricing and such.

If i replace the liquid metal with normal thermal paste will the temperatures be lower? Because the new Ryzen 9 with 3D is using thermal past and it runs like 20 Celsius cooler while being more powerful.
Compared to my ancient 2012 ASUS ROG G73SW with a Nvidia 460m GPU that barely does 29 FPS this will be a great buy for me. this thing is ultra small and light compared to my ancient gaming computer. Note it was the last birthday gift I got as I became an adult I am now financially well off enough to afford a major upgrade I've been thinking about it since 2021 lol

As it's a gaming laptop you can probably assume 1h while gaming and 4h when not. Gaming laptops aren't really designed to be run on battery much...

98 FPS is not faster than 104 FPS. Intel shows 104 fps but has a smaller graph value than 98 for AMD.

too bad the battery life in this scar 17 is so much worse compare to scar 18 and it's still using the old scar design not the new one they used on scar 18.

@@MatthewMonizI was relly shocked by CPU performance and a nice chassis colling the GPU+CPU really will.But my first unit get really strong coil sound when put in GPU heavy task., and I asked for a new one, only get a dead pixel and the CPU temp shoots up to 100 under stress.(the first one is arond CPU85°GPU80°）and both of 7945hx stay at 3.7Ghz idel generates heat and the fan starts spinning quite frequently.

depends on what you mean by better. the Scar 16 has a mini-LED screen and a newer chassis. I'm not sure if the build quality is better on the Scar 16, but most reviewers have said that the 16 has pretty solid build quality. The Scar 16 also has a mini-LED screen, a bigger trackpad, a bit more RGB, and thunderbolt 4. Performance-wise, it should be around the same with the Scar 17 probably performing better is some cases and running cooler due to the bigger chassis. I'm about to receive a Scar 16 myself, so I'll be finding out how the build quality is pretty soon.

Got a Cinebench Score of 34800 in Turbo mode with RTX-4060!
So faster than the video's score with a lowly 4060? (Did he use Turbo mode?)
Mine came from Amazon that they stock directly from ASUS.
Cinebench isn't a GPU bench. Your score is only a difference of 0.89%, which is margin of error. If there is any effect in the difference of GPU on Cinebench it's from a GPU idle power difference allowing slightly more budget to the CPU.

@@otrOptions It's on par with most desktops. I got 11k score on 3dmark time spy extreme, and nearly 23k on time spy (non extreme). It's up there in performance, and the cooling is so well made you can get away with overclocking it, unlike the intel version.
@AllergicFungus the only thing holding me back from ordering is the cpu temps. In some videos, it's 95 degrees and others around 85, so I really am on the fence.
@@otrOptions that's because they're overclocked... AMD is the only one that allowed overclocking on this laptop. The Intel cannot. I never broke 80 celsius on the CPU and never broke over 70 on gpu in time spy extreme. I'd send the link but CZcams flags it

Didnt you see the benchmarks? It can run faster at load for longer periods of time so the cooling is not a problem.

Matt! What's your choice for a laptop that can game and last long on battery? Last long enough with good portability for school while being powerful enough to game at home.

I have a ryzen 7 4800h, which scores 7k+. So this is 5 times powerful? Wtf! In less than 3 years processors have become so much powerful! I know ryzen 7 would be less powerful but still!
Why is the RAM so slow.
4000 dollars!???!?! How do I justify that much purely for performance especially when it looks the way it does. I'd get tired of looking at it after a week. The display and other basic features are lackluster compared to what you can get for 2000, no? JUST PERFORMANCE is worth 2000$ in and of itself? Really??? Would anyone care getting 300 frames instead of 200 frames if you get a much nicer display to see those 200 frames? I'm open to the idea I'm missing something here. I had to spend 20minutes just determining what all the different STRIX models are....it has an inferior G series to confuse people into buying lesser products it seems.

I bought an Asus G15 on your recommendation. Ended up somehow fraying the power cable. It was impossible to get an OEM power brick replacement from ASUS. Just a heads up to anyone looking at buying one of these laptops. If you fuck up your brick you're shit out of luck just gotta get some sketchy chinese knock off brick. Let's just say I sold that laptop and am enjoying my 4070ti desktop now.

Depends on which AMD cpu they use. A lot of them are Zen 3+. If it has the number 4 in the name its Zen 4.

You only really have people that pick Intel because of brand recognition/loyalty, people that know what they want from AMD or get one because of the typically lower price tag. Otherwise most people don't really know what they're buying, or even put that degree of thought in to it.

7:50 No, it's mostly because OEMs don't give two 💩 about competition. And I don't want one CPU brand being the only option, especially for the money! Then again, with all of these brands using Intel CPUs AND now the 7945 CPUs having not as good battery life, I feel justified in waiting for the Framework Laptop 16.
