I have lived in owen county, Kentucky my whole life.the town as a whole is very rural farming community but we are 40 minutes from Cincinnati. 50 minutes to an hour from Louisville. 20 minutes from Frankfort and 40 minutes from Lexington.we just sit right in the middle of the popular areas but we still enjoy the rural lifestyles and slower pace .I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.oh, I mention it's owen county.the city is owenton.once again keeping it simple.

I cannot believe I’m seeing Erlanger on this list lol. I currently live here and we have a problem with drugs, homeless, and occasional gun violence. The demographics of Erlanger are changing, and with that comes crime. I’m moving to Covington right now, and it seems like Covington/Newport is pushing out the lower class and they’re moving down to places like Erlanger.

Love your list, we live in Fort Mitchell and my family is from Georgetown, and I attended Georgetown College. While I love Fort Mitchell, one does not get the Kentucky feel up here as it is so close to Cincinnati. This is great for work, museums, as well as sports, it has a more cosmopolitan feel than most of Kentucky. However for work, there is a lot of industry close by including all the work opportunities Cincinnati presents.

It boils down to do you have enough money to live somewhere or work remotely that you don’t have to worry about supplying yourself, feeding business or anything like that. Next question is do you want to live in Cincinnati’s bastard child which unfortunately you can guess the locals and the locals adopted kids because they all think that they can claim something, next question would be are you into scenery which follows back up on the first can you afford to have scenery or would you like to have a homestead? Also another option the last question is why would you want to live in an overpriced place built, literally on the side of the next thing closest to a mountain a.k.a. Fort Mitchell And all of that don’t get me wrong born and raised in Kentucky love a lot of the things the scenery is unmatched in my opinion, but your top five places to live or number one Berea overpriced with no way to make that money unless you’re tied in somehow number two Fort Myers or Fort Mitchell sorry used to Floridaspeaking over talk text Fort Mitchell live on the side of the hill and an overpriced place kids want to come in and break into your cars or pay for private schools because you’re privileged white children get jumped by the natives just wondering allergies make it seem like you’re not out for Kentucky. I rank Florence/Burlington/Erlanger area as an easy #1.
Berea #2 as shopping is north, the new I-75 Buc-ees will change that area with more people moving in.
#3 Middlesboro near Tennessee. Highly overlooked for growth and future development. Once the 25E tunnel opened it really changed the access in and out of that community. East Tennessee area is rapidly growing with more move ins.
When I lived in Lexington on Linden Walk in 1996 the town was100,000 less people than now. The roads were practically empty on Sundays, it is not the same town anymore and a real crunch with traffic congestion.
I liked the are around the old Bluegrass Army Depot too. Stayed there for 2 weeks USAR summer training.
Georgetown has the best dairy queen, amazingly awesome blizzard shakes.

This is 4 months behind (YT just recommended this video to me), but Somerset is a fine city. Missing a few amenities, but a safe and comfortable town to live. I'm not originally from the area, so I'm not biased for or against.
      My in depth analysis is:
      -Plenty of home variety.
-Decent amount of occupations, could still improve there.
-Great outdoors activities (I mountain bike, and one of the best trail systems in the state is near at PC Park) and that's also hiking friendly
-Lake Cumberland is right there if you like anything to do with boating, fishing, etc
      However...
-The job market is focused on mainly retail/food service for basic jobs, and then medical or manufacturing for better pay. More diversity is still needed.
-There is literally zero accommodations for non car transportation. No bus system to speak of and nothing for bikes or pedestrians, not even sidewalks let alone multi-use/bike lanes.

My son is a maintenance man for Amazon in northern Kentucky and makes $38.50 a hour. Plus every 1/4 he gets one share of stock about $1,600. He went to work there after the Marine Corps. He will be retired by 50yrs old. Most of the Amazon maintenance guys retire in their 50’s because of the stock options. Plus my son saved most of his money from the Marines. He lives across the river in Indiana because land is cheaper. He drives about 40 minutes to work but his house and property was a lot cheaper. There is a lot of jobs in Northern Kentucky from $25-$30 a hour to start out with. But housing is expensive, you have to drive down the river or come to Indiana to find affordable housing. But you can find a good job in Northern Kentucky.

If you think Kentucky is a great place to live, then you’ve never lived in the Golden West…out west you have a wonderful climate and more in keeping with the 21st century. I lived in Denver for a long time and loved the perpetual sunshine and close proximity to some of the most spectacular ski areas in the B world…you are just a short flight from Phoenix, San Diego, LA,. the people out west are much healthier than in Kentucky….I tell people that leaving Kentucky and going west is like nothing they have ever experienced before….

    • @billybob5337

I've been out West many, many times, and stayed a for a couple of long periods. I completely disagree with your premise. California???? Really??? Lol. Theres a reason why people are leaving California in droves. Absolutely horrible, HORRIBLE place to live. A lot of people move to a place like KY, precisely because they want nothing to do with the superficial environments of a place such as LA, or the rampant crime and homelessness......or general insanity of a place such as San Francisco. I would rather not have to step on heroin needles, or constantly check my shoes for human feces on the bottom of them. A lot of people who moved to Kentucky have been to all of these places you've mentioned, or lived there. Not really a good example to use my friend. Phoenix???? Yea, if you're into getting cooked alive. Thats your idea of a good climate? Thanks, but no thanks. I'll take KY's beauty over Arizona any day of the week. No comparison. As far as Denver goes, no one is questioning its beauty. But not everyone is into skiing either. And if we're talking about sheer beauty........none of these places in the West you've mentioned has a damn thing on Montana. Thats peak Western beauty right there
