    With the incongruity in this gentleman's timelines and bafflingly making the claim Peter didnt play on the first album (which I think he suggests was Dressed To Kill), I would say that he's simply confusing Alive and Alive II. That's what makes the most sense given the wealth of information out there from the band themselves, producers, and other secondhand sources and this only being brought to light 48 years after the fact by a guy with a spotty memory.

    Hey, I’ll give this guy a break about his memory, timelines, and recollections. Maybe he is right, maybe not. Memories get fuzzy over the years. For example, I have a strong memory of going to a show on the "Dress To Kill Tour" back in 1975 - it was Wildwood, New Jersey or maybe Davenport, Iowa...or it might have been Detroit or Cleveland?? Anyways, I was just hanging out backstage before the show, and right before the band hit the stage, Paul Stanley himself came walking towards me. I had a drink in my hand, and he asked: "Hey man, what do people like to drink around here?" I was drinking a Screwdriver, and since I really didn't know the local drink-of-choice, I said: "Well Paul, there's a lot of these people here tonight that like to drink vodka and orange juice" - Right before they kicked into "Cold Gin" that night, I was shocked when I heard Paul repeat the words I had told him! And even more shocked when KISS "Alive!" came out and there it was, ingrained in vinyl forever! I never looked for credit on the album or any kind of pat-on-the-back. Anyways, that's the way I remember it....I think....

    Interesting episode. Not sure how much weight i would put into Bob doing overdubs for Alive, definitely could have happened but Bob really liked talking about stuff he did in regards to Kiss. I dunno and the guy seemed to not know his Kiss history and even suggested Peter.didn't play drums on the debut? Eddie Kramer relied on Bob Kulick for various projects, the same way Bob Ezrin relied on Hunter/Wagner for various projects. Anytime there's an interview and they're going back 40-50 years there's going to be "senior moments". Patti Smith’s connection to Blue Öyster Cult was through Allen Lanier (the band’s rhythm guitarist/keyboardist).
    She and Allen were in a relationship before Patti met Fred ‘Sonic’ Smith.
    Also, when you consider how much Kiss toured in 1975, and how tight the release deadline was for “Alive!”, it’s not at all surprising that Bob Kulick was brought in to punch in some guitars.

Bob Kulick was a go to guitarist for many artists. His guitar work on the Crimson idol is legendary. I don’t think anyone could’ve done it better and I read somewhere in an article Blackie said Bob’s fingers were bleeding by the time they were done . pure perfection. I wanted to add a non-KISS related comment:
    I find it interesting when people make comments like: "I didn't get the whole punk thing", "They weren't good musicians", or, as stated in this interview: "CBGB's was a dump". Well, those comments would indicate that you DID in fact "get the whole punk thing", as that was the very point of punk rock. Punk's primary statement was that you didn't need to be a musical prodigy to play rock and roll, and that Carnegie Hall wasn't the only venue to showcase rock and roll.
    Yes, many punk artists were rudimentary in their musicianship - that was the point. Yes, CBGB's was a dump - that was the point. Recognizing these things is a firm indication that you truly understood the point of punk.

    Way cool interview, TSOTC!
    Personally, I'm not a bit surprised or upset by hearing that Bob Kulick might have contributed some minor touch-ups to the "Alive" recordings. This happens all the time in recording, with artists at every level. When a producer is finishing tracks and mixing, they often discover bits in the tracks that need a touch-up, or an embellishment for the betterment of the entire track. If the artist themselves aren't around at that time, they'll go to the studio musicians, who are always qualified and at the ready and, almost unilaterally, go uncredited.
    Even the Beatles did this - Geoff Emrick, who engineered most of the Beatles recording sessions, said that there were hundreds of musicians who added a flourish of sound here, an embellishment there, or an overdub. And they never were given credit on the album. It's part of the recording process.

      Oh, there’s a new interview with Bruce Kulick, and he has NO paperwork proving that Bob played on “Alive!”.

  • @brianloy7856
    @brianloy7856 Před 2 měsíci

    Look, here’s what I KNOW to be a fact and I WAS THERE personally. The lead playing ACE did is very consistent and not much improvisation - even in his early guitar solo spot. Look, watch and listen to early KISS live videos prior to 1976 and Ace is playing those leads and has that “alive tone” that turned all us early guitarists onto to KISS. Kulick may have punched in some of Paul Stanley’s guitar parts because if you listen to early KISS videos, at times, Stanley drops out on guitar because he’s doing crazy visual shit. Now, I believe that’s possible. But as far as playing Ace’s leads on ALIVE - I don’t believe it. Not for one second. But it is possible he punched in some of the rhythm guitar parts here and there when Stanley was jumping around and prancing and dancing. I saw KISS about 3 times before and during the ALIVE tour. Ace had that tone and played those leads captured on ALIVE. I was there and I heard it myself. I helped with the monitor mix on one of those concerts. When ALIVE came out I was surprised how accurately Ace’s tone was captured. Stanley, by comparison, during this period had a less powerful almost hollow and “tinny” tone live.

    Yes, it's entirely reasonable to take Frankie at his word. But it begs the question: He wasn't the only person in the studio for these alleged Kulick overdubs, so why has NO ONE in 40+ years of KIϟϟtory even hinted at the same bombshell, as plausible as it is? Me, I'll consider this allegation fully confirmed when I hear it from a second party, whether that's Eddie Kramer or another uncredited engineer. And that's in no way a slight against your guest or his credibility--I thought he was a fantastic interview & struck me as a down-to-earth guy. I love when you guys sit down with engineers and techs! Keep up the good work--I hope to see some of you later this year in Toronto, or in NYC when I finally get my MSG cherry popped!🤘🏻

      @@MichaelBrandvold All I'm saying is, the subject of KIϟϟ and their uncredited session players has been so done to death by insiders over the years--in every form from fanzines & expo Q&As to in-depth high-profile interviews--that it's hard to believe Kramer, knowing our rabid love for this level of minutiae, would still be keeping mum on any detail of one of the biggest live albums in rock history. Harder still to accept that Kulick would take this particular secret to the grave.
