I've met Gene one time coming out of a radio station a few blocks from a KISS show in Norfolk. Crazy nights tour. He was really nice, asked for an autograph, i had just a black envelope, as i had no idea i'd meet him. He signed it and spoke a moment with me as he walked to his car. He told me to enjoy the show. The best memory i had about it was how he smelled. Whatever he had on was obviously a very very high end expensive cologne. Great experience.
Years later March 1990, Gene and Paul were doing a radio station tour. A friend invited me to take photos in the studio. The DJ, Gene, Paul, their PR guy and i were the only ones in the studio. Both had sunglasses on, Paul's hair tied back. It was the last station of the day and it was a ZOO type station. Paul wasnt in the best spirits, and it was made much worse when the DJ had him read a compliant letter from a foreign person about the station during a break.. Paul read it and thought it was kinda funny, HOWEVER, the DJ played it back live with some offensive music in the background. Paul became very upset with the DJ, cuz he didnt know he was doing it. Paul said a few choice words to the kid PR guy and it seemed like it was going to arise to more. Gene then gently calmed Paul down and he let it go. So now i wanted to take a photo of them from the DJ's chair, Gene said "Sure"! and even took off his sunglasses and never put them back on. Paul didn't, but politely posed. They then posed for everyone i took the pics and they were out. I knew Paul was tired and was happy for this radio bit to end, but overall they were awesome to me. They both signed a bootleg, but only after Gene looked at the back and it was a pic of a naked girl. He laughed and said "Uh, you know, i've never seen that one. Even got a laugh out of Paul as they left.

Luv all that information. Thanks for all your efforts. As an Aussie, I saw the reunion tour & had a great time but I did notice (in all honesty) that Peter wasn't as capable as a drummer as he once was. The following tour to Australia was the farewell tour & Eric Singer was on drums. I was aware that Peter had departed & was initially disappointed but thought I would still go to the gig. It was outdoors (at the Gold Coast gig) & it was a great night. Ace sang approx 4 songs & KISS played exceptionally well. No disappointment at all.

I totally agree with Andrew Salter's comment below as to this nonsense Fabio speaks of on KISS doing a favor for Ace and Peter to rejoin the band when they did. Fabio, you know nothing on the subject matter to say this. I have been a fan for life of the old and true KISS and not this KISS cover band now that it is. I saw Tommy Thayer in his KISS tribute band at a small dive bar in the early 1990's called "FM Station" in North Hollywood, California and I think his KISS tribute band was called "COLD GIN" with his old singer from "Black N Blue" playing the part of Peter Criss. I remember seeing Gene and Paul hiding in the back of this this bar observing the crowds reaction and excitement to see the tribute with full make-up. They were planning this original line-up tour for sometime.
I was also there to see KISS in their almost complete death when they were so far down that they even did an appearance at my local "K-Mart" parking lot on San Fernando Road in Atwater Village near Los Feliz in Los Angeles which was not by any means the nicest area at the time and they were there to sign autographs to promote KISS Alive 3. It was horrible to see them like that. KISS absolutely needed Ace and Peter to reboot and become the biggest touring act once again. I still think to this day that Ace and Peter should have held out for a better contract and much bigger piece of the pie because KISS was OVER at that time and they were both responsible for the now mega mansions that Gene and Paul get to enjoy for the rest of their lives while Peter and Ace are still struggling.
Whatever the case may be, all 4 of these "Men" should pull their heads just long enough out of their asses to give the millions of fans what they deserve. One final Good Bye with ALL original members.

Scary Closet KISS needed the reboot/reunion in 1996. However, by 2000, Peter Criss was hardly necessary anymore. Even Ace was happier playing with Eric Carr. They still continued to tour and sell lots of tickets. Even after Ace, they continued to make money and tour.

I was at the last show in North Charleston, SC. I was on the floor roughly lined up with the center of the stage. I
remember hearing the rumors that were circulating but at the time I didn't know for sure that this would be the last show
with all 4 original members. I thought...they're just fighting over some small contract dispute but will get it worked out
and then they will probably finish up the tour. But when it was all said and done. I couldn't be happier
that it worked out that I got to see the last show with all 4 original members because I didn't think it was how or where
it would end. I always thought they would do their last show in New York or some other big city but not anywhere in South
Carolina of all places. But I'm glad they did. It definitely made this life long Kiss fan happy.
I didn't get any video but I do have a bootleg video of the show (that I got within a week after the show from
the guy who filmed it). I also got some pretty good photos. I managed to get some cool shots with a good camera.
Some things I noticed at the show. I remember when they were doing the "jam" at the end. I knew that was very out of character
for Kiss so I knew that I was seeing something cool/different when that was happening. Around that time I was watching all of
them closely but I was really watching Gene when fans were passing/throwing things on stage for him to sign. I couldn't believe
he was doing that either. I remember somebody threw a local radio station's t-shirt to Gene and he opened it, looked at it and
shook his head "no" and threw it back to the person in the audience. So, I think maybe Gene was only signing official Kiss stuff
that was passed up or thrown on stage. And at one point I clearly seen Gene mouth the words "Thank You" to a fan in the crowd
and blow them a KISS. After the show was completely over, music came on over the PA and I wasn't in any hurry to leave so I just
sort of sat there for a bit waiting for the crowd to thin out and thinking about what I had just seen and putting it together
with the rumors I was hearing leading up to the show and letting it all sink in. And thinking I might have very well just seen the
last show with Paul, Gene, Ace and Peter. And just before I finally got up to leave I thought I should get one more keepsake
from the show. So, I looked down at the floor at all the confetti and most of it was dirty, stepped on, or had beer or some
other spilled beverage on it but I found some clean and dry pieces and grabbed them!
And for the record, I think this show should be released on DVD. I still have my ticket stub, a t-shirt, photos, a bootleg video of the show, my memories and even some confetti but this would complete the collection. HA!

KISS may be "just Gene and Paul" from the business end , and they did perpetuate the group in the years after Peter and Ace were gone , but to then fan perception varies. Clearly there is no way Gene and Paul earn anywhere near the money they earned during the reunion years without Ace and Peter, not even close. So while I do agree Ace and Peter were pains in the ass to varying degrees during that period, (and sometimes based on relevant issues) there is no denying their impact and importance to the huge resurgence in fan interest, and willingness to spend money on KISS.I also don't believe they were paid commensurate to the increased revenue they provided.

One more comment. My first time seeing Kiss was the Hot in the Shade tour and around that time my friends and I would hang out behind the concert venue and try and meet bands as they arrived for sound check (this is in Portland, OR). Gene got off his bus and was super cool and personable and signed for ~30 people. I was stunned that a "rock star" of his magnitude would do that. Kulick also signed but we never saw Paul or Eric. Awesome show!

My friend and I snuck backstage in when he got off he asked how he Did? I said you were awesome! I then realized he thought I was part of the band. Haha. True story. I then went backstage and was given a heineken and was saying to myself I cannot believe I am party with my ero. At that same time a 100 or so fans came rushing through with kiss albums to sign. That's when security said anyone without The backstage pass get the hell out. They took my mind again and my dream was over. Still a good Memory though. Meeting Paul Stanley was a different story. I saw him with my girlfriend and my buddy in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania doing a Solo tour in 1988. He did sign an autograph but when we went to talk to him the doors were locked and then almost got in a fight with his wannabe tough guy security guard which in sure Paul tried to sik on me. And all because we were standing In the lobby after the concert hoping to talk to him for a couple minutes

@@TommySG1 all due respect, but I would have done what Gene & Paul did. Remember, the core issue was being a business partner in the band, Ace and Peter both sold their stakes in the band to Gene & Paul years before the reunion and acted like they didn’t give a shit. They had no foresight for the future. Would you want known drug addicts to become a full partner in your business? Gene and Paul were screwed either way:
If they let them back in, Ace & Peter have equal say and since they have no business sense, it all would’ve gone to shit.
If they hire them as contractors which they did, they risk hurting Ace & Peter’s egos, which is exactly what happened. It’s called the music BUSINESS, it’s not about friendship or loyalty to someone they knew 20 years prior. In business: do the work, show up and hold up your end of the agreement or f#!k off. No way Ace & Peter would’ve done the work, esp Ace. He was a painkiller addict by this point in the farewell tour, that addiction is horrible. They could not have worked out either way, they don’t have the discipline or mental fortitude.

@@russellszabadosaka5-pindin849 , I agree with your thoughts on all of this, no doubt. What they could have done though during the reunion time ( era 96’ ) was offer the two of them a more fair type of deal though…. Somehow, someway. The other thing going on with paying Ace more than Peter was another shit show. At the very least all of these details should have been out on the table when they were discussing terms. That was one of the triggers that ended that tour sooner and more abruptly, along with most probably many other issues as well….. sadly.

I think they ALL did a favor to each other, by reuniting. Peter and Ace were part of the original thing and when they came back, they were part of the huge, comeback success that the band experienced. I can understand how being employees of the band (and probably treated as such) wasn't too thrilling to them. I can understand them not being team players by the end. Still, it was their drug addiction that lead to their exit from the group. That's on them, not Gene and Paul. Also, G&P kept the whole thing going and it was their attention to business that made the band as successful as it was. So, in other words...I understand both sides. I'm just happy they did get back together and made us all happy for as long as they did.

I have a VHS tape of the last show, and I remember Ace shouting "Nipplefest!" at the final bow.
Regarding the jamming that continued into the Japan and Australia shows. Remember the one when Ace was pretty much dictating their choices, playing "Parasite" and "New York Groove," then Paul says, "How about 'Strutter?'" Ace calls out "She" and plays it, and afterward, Gene steps to the mic and says, "What does the Ace Frehley Band want to do next?" Ace starts playing "Rocket Ride" and stares at Gene the whole time. Paul says, "Alright, you've had enough of that. Let's umm..." Then he starts "Mr. Speed." Gene's so irritated, and Ace doesn't care.

But the concert I saw in ‘96 was better, especially since I had won front row tix for my Gene costume at a local radio station that morning. To top it off there were two girls with back stage passes next to me and my buddy. And they got the tickets due to their…. Assets. One was Team Paul, the other Team Gene. I have always been a KISS fan and always will be!
Did they do things that I, as a fan wasn't crazy about? Sure they did!
I'm a fan of The Elder and other albums other fans hate or dislike!
There's the same situation with tons of other bands I know of and love, where people dislike them or bitch about their decisions, Van Halen is a great example.
Unlike some fans, I love all versions of the band.
As a fan, whatever the band or group or performer, they are going to make decisions not everyone agrees with but it's their choice to make and they have to live with it and hopefully enough will enjoy their music and continue on as fans.
That's their choice and yours to continue following them or not. If you don't, you might miss out on something.
I don't always agree with KISS's decisions but I understand them and I am still a fan!

So very sad. IMO Kiss in the 70's was the best band that ever existed. They got way to greedy and money hungry and forgot what they were. After love Gun they should have taken a long break and not done the solo albums and Dynasty. If they had taken a step back and treated each other like the brother's they pretended they were and let everyone take a rest and refuel their batteries they could have come back and dominated the 80's. MTV was made for them. They all fucked it up because they stopped loving the band and only loved the money. Recipe for disaster.
