Episode 571. One email is the focus of this week’s episode, see below. Why does anyone care what someone else likes or doesn’t like? Why do you attack people with different views? Why would you think you are going to change the minds of anyone with a message like this?
    “Greetings from Down Under!
    Ok, enough of the pleasantries…
I was there at VFL Park Melbourne 1980!
Amazing concert for a teenager! & yes it was total KISSTERIA…
Just listening to Ace’s Trouble Walking album.
Whoever sang on Hide Your Heart should be SHOT!
    Fucking dreadful…
Which brings me to Ace’s 10,000 Volt Album.
Do you guys do crack? You must, because you glowed over this album!
The songs (except for 10,000 Volts) are so bad, no, really really fucking bad I can’t believe
it got released. Listen (really listen) to the vocals on Cherry Whatever it’s called!
My cat sings better. I take it (sadly) Ace is brain dead yeah? He sounds it…
Seriously guys, you lost me when you dribbled shit about how good the album is..
I listened to two whole songs. Then did the, next, next, next fast forward..
I loved Ace, but he’s fried..
Oh, & I’ve seen him live in Melbourne too, about 10 yrs ago.
Cheers & keep flying the KISS flag.
Even thou it’s all finished brothers.”

As a fan of both Kiss and Priest - you are wrong about Priest being all the same - they're also very different throughout their discography.
Other than that - totally agreed! We all have our opinions and we don't have to "fight" if they're different.

So many times I’ve said to myself ‘this is their best episode. No, this is their best episode’, But have to say this week is your best. I loved and related to the honest friendly conversation between Tommy and Michael! I just wish that Mark and Lisa could’ve been there. Hope for a part two, Izzy could be there too. Keep the conversation going. Thanks!

You guys are right about that. I played a My Bloody valentine video on Facebook once and this mid 50s troll gets in my face and calls it bubblegum. A simple "not my thing" will do. Same goes for me. I could get obnoxious and I have, but why turn into the thing you hate about others?

Speaking from psychological standpoint ,this issue stems from many factors.
    In my opinion
As Tommy said, attention ,loneliness, boredom, and being a keyboard warrior.
There is also the term "transfernce" when people put their own problem onto others. In other words, someone is triggered, and they put negativity into a comment on to others.
Interestingly I feel naming the episode as you have has triggered you both, as deep down it does affect you , and why shouldn't it, its not about being older or wiser but being human, we all have feelings.
Saying the why fuck do you care shows you do because you are passionate and brings up an emotion.
If this doesn't affect you , why mention it or give 1 hour of time to it.
    Just my opinion.
I really enjoy your show and appreciate the effort you all make it happen.

Great discussion. It’s funny Tommy when you said that you didn’t care too much for Iron Maiden when I was a teenager in high school and if somebody would’ve criticized, Kiss or Iron Maiden, I would’ve wanted to punch them in the face and make them realize how great they are. when you’re young, you actually take it personal and think it’s a personal attack. As you get older and you start to care less. music is subjective. Just as there’s 1 million people who hate Iron Maiden there’s 1 million people who love Iron Maiden none of it matters nobody is necessarily right or wrong. But Iron Maiden are amazing so maybe they are wrong hahah. That’s one reason why I hate rock critics because who the hell are they to tell you what you listen to sucks.

Good show guys!! So up until this year if someone on a post said something negative about KISS I would try to defend them. Saying something like millions of people disagree with you or 50 years later KISS was still around. They would usually say something stupid like Taylor Swift and Britney Spears always sold out arenas and stadiums does that make them any good? I would say something like they obviously must be good at what they do. Even if it isn’t my thing. Now I’m also just tired of doing it anymore. So I don’t try to fight with people online anymore 🙄🤪. Just not worth it

I am a musician of over 40 years and am in full agreement. People like what they like and are entitled to it. The only qualification I think I would have above someone that isn’t a musician (guitar and mixing most specifically) is if something is difficult to play or not or if someone isn’t really doing it live. But the live things bothers people a lot less than it bothers me. Again, it’s an opinion and everyone has a right to it. Thanks for the post guys.

I've lived in the Chicagoland area all my life and I really miss all the record stores we had in the 70s and 80s - even department stores had record departments, it was great. Now all we have is ebay, discogs, amazon...TARGET??? On the other hand, there are record shows I go to once a month. Talk about a plethora or smorgasbords - they have everything.

I was born in 1980. In the early to mid 90's when alternative was the thing, I refused to listen to it. I was stuck on 70's / 80's rock. One of my biggest regrets is missing out on bands like Alice in Chains during their heyday. Could have had it all but I was stuck in my ways. Keep rockin boys. PS - Good Girl Gone Bad is one of the greatest underrated KISS tunes.

The "psychological standpoint" that Tommy mentioned is very interesting. Why does it bother someone, what Michael likes or not?
It's not about "it bothers me!".
It's not about changing someone's mind. I'm interested, perplex and curious: why is "CoS" a bad album? What is his motive? I love the dark heavy depressive atmosphere. It's honest, realistic, down to earth, serious. It's Paul. He's singing his "darkness". "CoS" is authentical Paul.
And absolutely KISS. Another psychological aspect is: music to have fun or to be happy is entertainment.
I need emotional closeness and identification with the singer. KISS has both aspects. Michael is not wrong, he simply has a different psychological structure. That's what everyone should understand.

It seems that the reason people get so bent out of shape when others disagree with an opinion they hold is that so many buy into a "group think" mentality. Almost like they get personal validation from how many people agree with them. I don't understand that mentality. Think what you want. Until you do something physically to harm me or my family/friends, we have no issues. As for Ace's album, it has possibly 2 songs I'd ever listen to again. The rest is on par with a high school garage band. Lyrically, its almost comical. Now, im a KISS fan from '76. Thousands of dollars and hours spent on these guys. But, i don't like everything that anyone does. Including myself! The post above mentioned COS. I'm happy he enjoys it. It is another band effort that is comical/horrible to me. Trying to be trendy rather than innovative. I tend to think that way about 1/3 of the releases from 1980 forward. Boils down to this one thing. We are all fans of the band. Adults should be able to agree that we all have individual opinions. Thats a good thing! Btw, Loggins and Messina is awesome! 😊 I listen to a wide range of music. Always have. In the same day, I will have bluegrass to southern rock to 80's gangsta rap to old school blues players from the 1930's. Its ALL good to me.

Exactly right, these people want to have as many people they can to agree with them for some kind of validation.
Music is like a lot of things in the world (movies, books, art, cars, animals, food, architecture...), it's all in the eyes or ears of the beholder.
