    Does the Jeune École doctrine remain important today?
    Welcome to our channel. All the weapon systems are like books. They tell us their stories. The Weapon Detective investigates these books, reads between the lines, analyse, and tells the untold. At the dawn of the Second Cold War, the fruits of new projects give us clues about the future. But current weapon systems also have their own stories. In our videos, you can find technical information as well as historical backgrounds, what happened during the development processes, combat experience and political projection. In the last part of the Cold War, the Italian Navy developed a series of small anti-ship units equipped with great firepower. They were the hydrofoils of the Sparrowhawk P-420 class, six ships as fast as their names indicated: Nibbio P-421, Falcone P-422, Goshawk P-423, Grifone P-424, Kestrel P-425, Condor P-426. Units destined for anti-ship warfare with remarkable firepower for their modest tonnage. Built in the 1980s by the Italian Navy, they represented a military-technical innovation of warfare on the sea. Skipping all traditionally inspired concepts, the Navy chose a truly innovative solution for the hull and engine system, adopting the combat hydrofoil. The prototype was the Sparrowhawk.

V from Israel, from the original order of 9 units, it will complement the smaller MPACs presently operated by the PN, but the PN also intended to purchase the Hayabusa Missiles Boat in case the JMSDF retires it, this type of missile boat is well ADOPTED to the Philippines settings, it can be used in the open waters of the South China Sea, where the PLAN ships also operate, also it can be used in the Littoral seas of the Philippines, where the geographical proximity of small islands are not WIDE, it can also use in the Bashi Channel where the PLAN ships always use the route going to the Pacific Ocean, it can be used for surveillance and monitoring large ship such as Frigates, Corvettes, and Submarine with NO threatening degree because of its small size, unlike the BIGGER ships which can be THREATENING in nature...

      @artruisjoew5473 Před 3 lety +5

      no. not at all. while i agree that the whole LCS project turned out to be very disappointing, the role the missile boat is supposed to fill is fundamentally different from that of a LCS. while the hayabusa is supposed to fill a monitoring and when opportunity presents itself, sea strike role close to its own shores, LCS is essentially a very expensive multi role fleet support ship. it is supposed to do the things the big ships have a problem doing, while being able to stay with the fleet.
      buying a missile boat will not work for the US at all because it lacks the range that the USN requires to project power globally, and it fills a role that USN simply does not have. it adds basically nothing to the fleet, and can't even keep up with the fleet due to its limited range.

    Good to hear that the Philippine Navy has interest on these small missile patrolmen boats when the JMSDF decommission them. How many Shaldag Mk V wiil we have ? 9 plus 6 OPV, and maybe 5 Cyclone class patrol boats. 5 Hayabusa class missile boats. These fast patrol boats can be great defensive units who threatens the Philippine territory. 4 Frigates and 2 Corvettes and many more someday. Plus maybe 3 Scorpine Submarrines. Hopefully after navy modernization, MRF follows.

    • @classifiedad1
      @classifiedad1 Před 3 lety

      Or “Jeune Ecole, but with the firepower to make it work.”
      The reason why the IJN moved away from it was due to their experiences in the first Sino-Japanese War, where their far better and more modern fleet of cruisers and torpedo boats had incredible difficulty trying to kill a slightly outdated, poorly-maintained, and poorly-employed Chinese ironclad. They recognized that they would have suffered far heavier losses had the ironclad battleship been vaguely anywhere near effectively employed.
      Missile boats differ from torpedo boats in that the effective range of their weapons relative to those possessed by the largest warships is much closer, only limited by their sensor capabilities (lower height means shorter radar horizon).

    For anyone that doesn't really have an idea of the JMSDF capability think of it like if the USN was a DDG and smaller force. My first ship was the USS Kitty Hawk homeported in Yokosuka Japan.
    They consider themselves the USN's little brother, the USN considers the JMSDF as thier little brother. A Kongo class DDG can make for a good carrier escort vessel primarily because all of the Japanese self defense forces are DEFENSE forces so all those VLS cells are full of air defense they don't have to set a varying percentage of cells aside for land attack.
    I'd say they are easily the second best Navy out there.

    はやぶさ型ミサイル艇は3900トン型護衛艦に置き換えられることはないと思います。そもそも、はやぶさ型はミサイル艇、「もがみ」型3900トン新型護衛艦はフリゲートです。もがみ型が建造された理由は、今の駆逐艦クラスの船を増やすことは要員の確保が難しいため、高度なシステム制御により人員削減を図ることと、中国・北朝鮮による領海侵犯への警戒対処でミサイル艇よりも長く海上での運用が必要とされたからです。

    • @moviewindows
      @moviewindows Před 3 lety

      I don't think that the Hayabusa class missile boats will be replaced by the 3900-ton destroyers. In the first place, the Hayabusa type is a missile boat, while the new 3900-ton Mogami class destroyer is a frigate. The reason why the Mogami class built was to reduce manpower by using advanced system control (because it is difficult to maintain enough manpower for increasing the number of destroyer class ships), and also because it is necessary to operate at sea for longer than missile boats in order to be on alert against territorial sea invasions by China and North Korea.

  • @maxlin3442
    @maxlin3442 Před 3 měsíci

    Taiwan has more advanced and heavily armed missile boats. We have 31 equivalents of the Hayabusa-class, the Kuang Hua VI. With similar loadout(4 subsonic ASCM), they have better stealth technique and an RWS double as CIWS.
    We also have 7 slightly bigger Tuo Chiang class Stealth corvettes. Each can carry 8 supersonic, 4 subsonic ASCM and 16 medium range SAM, plus Phalanx CIWS or RAM style missiles for self defense, guided by AESA radar. 5 more are on the way, and the 12 coast guard versions can also be converted into missile boats as well.
    Taiwan and Japan have different goals. Taiwan focuses on denying the sea in coordination with CDCM batteries, hence we employ stealthy, fast missile boats. Japan focuses on controlling the sea with large destroyers. Different goals result in different outcomes.

    These little ships can wreck havoc in the Chinese navy. Their speed and maneuverability combined with their anti-ship missiles are an excellent counter to either the Chinese or even Russian fleets.
    Japan does not need to build gigantic ships. Because it’s an island, it’s difficult to be stormed and occupied by a foreign force and can be protected by these ships, Air Force and missiles, plus the help of Western Countries that see Japan as a trusted allied. Hopefully will never have to use them.
