    I watch many episodes of the show, and are interested in magic. Many times I have somewhat idea how a magician could do it. (Don’t get me wrong I am not near pan and teller and I can’t tell how exactly it was preformed). Rather that oh the magician made the person chose what the magician wanted. Here I had nothing of that. It was completely mind bending and for me it’s like magic. The code to Penn was also so hard that I can’t understand a shit of this. Amazing show and even tho they got you for the audience it’s truly magical to watch

    Superb performance. My take on 83$ : The last item to be chosen, Dessert wine, all of the items in the category were priced at same 12$. Since the first 4 items were summing up to 71$, he chose Brandy and dessert wine, had it been a different sum he would have chosen a different category (bottom of the same page or next page)

    Hm the reciept bit I know, same principle as the lottery effect - but trying to figure out the money part. I think I have an idea but not 100% sure I've got it. Great trick though it really evokes the atmosphere of going for a nice dinner - I never know what to pick! Fish, meat, pastas... I always hope my waiter can at least guide me some of the way...

    • @jackd4067
      @jackd4067 Před 3 lety +1

      I suspect that it was some on the fly mental-math to get to 83 - if the chicken was picked, then the next section he'd ask him to order from would be the entrees (for example) then if he picked [whatever next] then the next section to go to would be the desserts, so forth. Probably had some shortcuts there so that he wasn't having to literally calculate on the fly. That *does* create an issue with the final one but it's always possible that the cocktails/drinks are a fixed price, or that they're just a few dollars short and he had, say, some additional section he could have directed the comic (whose name I forget) to if so.

  • @OlafReuh
    @OlafReuh Před 4 lety +35

    We don't get very close views at the menu except maybe at 2:50 but it seems that the last two appetitizers both cost the same prize and start with the letter S. And the magician knows then that if the guest picks Satay chicken or Sea-salt crusted salmon siders then the magician will offer him some Soup (which also starts with S). Had it been the Hand-rolled sushi he would have offered Homemade bread while the Fat bastard charrboiled oysters and Fresh grated guac would come with Fresh salad. Then after the Gumbo he offered Grilled meat and my guess he would have been given the same choice if Green bean salad, Greek chickpea salad or Grissini had been offered. At the end no matter what the choice was the guest would pay $83. I don't know if it's how it's done but nevertheless this is brilliant.

      After Cowboy Ribeye he went to Cakes + Pastries, which was Banana Walnut which led to Brandies + Dessert Wines (czcams.com/video/PQHcB6Y1M3w/video.html) Notice everything in Fine Desserts starts with either A or B (which would lead to Bradies or Apertifs) Good catch!

  • @kwilson5832
    @kwilson5832 Před rokem

    Each item in the 'Appetisers' section begins with 'F', 'H', 'P' or 'S'. The two items beginning with 'F' are the same price, as are the two items starting with 'S'. The following menu sections start with the same letters, where similarly, items that start with the same letter are the same price. In Denny's act, whichever food item George chooses, Denny directs him to the menu section which starts with the same letter, so when George chooses 'Satay Chicken', he is then led to to the 'Soups' section (missing out the 'Fresh Salads' and 'Homemade Breads'). Then, when George picks 'Gumbo', he is asked to move on to the 'Grilled Meats' section, then the 'Cowboy Ribeye' option leads him to the 'Cakes and Pastries' section. Lastly, the 'Banana Walnut Cake' leads on to the 'Brandies and Dessert Wine' section, where all the options cost the same price. When we see the menu, we can see that items in each section that start with the same letter cost the same (eg the 'Fine Desserts' section only has two items starting with 'A' for one price (which would lead on to 'Aperitifs') and two items starting with 'B' for another price (which would lead on to the 'Brandies and Dessert Wines' section). Whatever combination of items are chosen, the total will be $83.
    The reference that Penn makes to the huge pants that Denny would have needed 30 years ago relates to a micro printer that Denny must have in his pocket. I guess that an off-stage assistant sends the list of items via bluetooth to the printer.

    • @jiayiong9893

    The only thing i wish you did more was to let George have a little bit of his own time too...can't have a performer on stage and not let the man have a little fun imo. Its a very casual trick and you could be setting him up to tell some funny jokes as well and give him some time to be his comic self more.

    Everything on the menu from each section would sum up to $83 .

    • @simonewers4369
      @simonewers4369 Před 4 lety +1

      Thought so too, but it can't, right? at least as long as the prices in the different sections are all different and one chooses excactly one item out of every section.
      Example: Section A: Dish 1: 10$
      Dish 2: 12$
      Section B: Dish 3: 8$
      Dish 4: 6$
      Sure if someone picks dishes 1 and 3, it is the same outcome as if he had picked dishes 2 and 4 (18$). But if he has free choice, he can pick for example dishes 2 and 3 to get 20$.
      So if a) choices are not forced, b) prices in each section are different, c) exactly one item out of each section is chosen, I don't see how you could construct the menu in a way that this works.
      But I'm very happy to be proved wrong!

    • @markusschronkhammer4136
      @markusschronkhammer4136 Před 4 lety +12

      @@simonewers4369 I think the prices are PATTERED (hence Penn's code) n such a way that he can always get to 83 Dollars by selecting the section where to chose from, which he did. So for example, when George picked the chicken, he knew he would have him pick from the soups next, had he chosen, say, the pasta, he would have had him choose from the seafood dishes or whatever. The last section was the drinks and they all had the same price, so he could get exactly where he needed to go.
