- Shoutout to channel member Brian who’s working on these and Grade 4 generally - here’s my little once-through of the Grade 4 technical exercises. Pages 54 and 55 in your Grade 4 book.

Fantastic! Will go through these often!
Thank you for breaking this down, appreciated been playing for 30 years and still fine tune constantly (Neil Peart was my inspiration)
Agreed so crucial , if you want to learn- grades are best. I thought i was better than I was tried to skip grade 4 and go to 5 and couldnt do it , so took your advice , treat it as levelling up skill and realised I needed to solidify my grade 4 skills and its much better now tackling 5 . Also rudiments like you say you may not even use them all but like flam paradiddle its not about the flam paradiddle its about being able to groove confidently with snare and hihat for example and confidently moving right hand around toms cymbals etc . Hope this helps some channel viewers.
Well said. The question beginner students often ask is "what songs use drum rudiments?", but for me this wildy misses the point. They're physical skill, flow and confidence builders. This question for me is like asking a soldier "in what type of warfare do you do a sit-up?", or asking a pro footballer "when have you done a squat in a match"". They're not the end in themselves - they're the means by which you build your physical skills which then allows you to perform which confidence and flow on the kit. Going to the gym for drummers! Plus, as I say in this vid, they have the great bonus of giving us inspiration for new ideas to play. Cheers!
Great exercises, rudiments rule this game definitely, love em❤
Well said Paul!
Thanks Mike that helped!!
Hey Mike, thanks for another very clear and informative video 😀👍🏼 Quick question: what are the main differences between the Trinity and Rockschool syllabuses, and do you have a preference for one or the other? Many thanks 🙏🏼
Really helpful video as always! I’m doing trinity rock and pop, which don’t have any rudiments. Is it worth doing some rudiments on the side?
Is it worth it, I would have thought this video and most of this channel makes my opinion pretty clear by now...YES! The practice plans I write (including the one for myself!) all contain...
Part 1 (Hands) - Rudiments and physical skill drills
Part 2 (Head) - Song learning and music theory - the grade book stuff
Part 3 (Heart) - Groove, feel and creativity
