Surfer killed in Hawaii shark attack amid rip current warning in East Coast

This comes as beachgoers looking to stay cool on the East Coast are being warned to be on high alert for dangerous rip currents after a number of drownings in recent days. A shark attack in Hawaii has nothing to do with rip currents on the East Coast of North America
I noticed that too. They try and make is sound like the incidents are related.

From a cbs article about Tamayo Perry: officials warned people in both Florida and Hawaii to remain alert earlier this summer after a series of shark attacks happened in both states on the same day, CBS News national correspondent Manuel Bojorquez reported.
This report is all over the place! How did we go from a shark attack in Hawaii to rip currents on the East Coast? It's almost like they've been working on a story for rip currents and then the shark attack happened. So the producers at TODAY were like: "close enough - let's run with it!"
was 8 years old by myself caught in a rip tide pushing me out into the ocean. i did not know how to swim either. god was with me to realize instead of going against the rip tide to instead walk to the side of it until the rip tide was past me. could have died as my cry for help was too far away for anyone to hear me.

If I wanted a riptide story I would have searched “Riptide” not “Shark attack”
Wave bundled stories. They left out the current riptide story in the gulf coast responsible for some current drownings.
That story is so tragic. Three friends booked an airbnb. As soon as they got in the room. They raced each other to the beach. Then drowned!

Why do people go in the water when there aren't lifeguards on duty? It doesn't make sense....the ocean is a dangerous place to go without someone else around. As soon as you go in just understand that you are the lowest thing on the food chain right there with krill. İt's very unfortunate that these people lost their lives, but, hopefully before you get in the water, you know about the dangers and how to avoid them. RIP
I once heard of someone who lost his left leg and left arm in a shark attack. But don't worry, he's all right now!

Most shark attacks on humans are due to the shark biting out of curiosity to see if it's something they want to eat. They take a bite on a surfer or diver to see if they like the taste, and most sharks don't actually like the taste of humans that much. If the shark had actually eaten this guy they wouldn't have found his body would they?
