  • What I would change in my van build after nearly a year on the road (and some of my favorite things!). There is very little that I would do differently, but I hope my mistakes can guide you in your own builds and ideas! In addition, I am touring around the Salt Flats of Utah and having dance parties… 😊❤️

Could you make an insulated 'shield' to put in front of the fridge to divert the heat away on nights when the heater is on? Even just a piece of reflectix might help.

Thank you for sharing!! I've been in a panic ever since buying my van in Sept, '20. Living in a van is something I wanted to do since 2013, and when I finally pulled the trigger I developed a very unexpected, overwhelming anxiety about taking on the project of rebuilding the DIY build that was already built into it by the previous owner. Your videos and help of friends are helping me grow my confidence in taking this on and finally moving forward with this dream of mine. Cheers and I can't wait to see more. Love those four-leggeds too!

You bring a whole new perspective to the van life, in your style as a story teller and cinematographer. The access panels, location of the fridge and heater vent definitely lessons learned over time and one day modifications to the design will improve the efficiency and power loss in your electrical as well. Overall you share great ideas for others who are considering the life and what works best and what does not. Keep sharing your AWESOMNESS, your amazing! 😊🌲

About your fridge. Winter in a great brand. See if you can buy a thermal cover for it. If not, wrap it in refletex, cutting opening for ventilation. This will insulate at all temperatures and seasons saving energy. Next, get a thermal curtain which you can hang over fridge opening, leaving space for venting at top. Attach with small spring curtain rod, velcro, or magnets. Only use it when heat is on. See if you can get an attachment which will split the air flow on you output vent to flow side to side instead of straight. Love your van set up. One of the best.

Super late to the party here so I'm sure you figured it out by now, but the way I'd fix the heater/fridge issue is build an insulated panel to put infront of your fridge. Depending how in depth you want to get with it, for a more finished look you can attach the panel to make a cabinet for the fridge or if you want to just do quick and easy just make a board with some thinsulate or something to just sit infront of it. Or even something that's flexible and insulating you can just wrap around the fridge at night like a hug lol... just some thoughts!

I don't know if this would help or not (re the fridge and heater) but could you cover the fridge with an insulated blanket and also get an attachment for the vent part of the heater to direct it to blow down your "hallway" vs into the fridge? Again, I don't know.....I haven't started my #vanlife life yet (hopefully this fall!) but just thought I'd throw out that suggestion in case it works :-) As always, thanks for sharing!

If not, just know watching commercials is helpful and beneficial for any youtuber you watch as that's how they make a little bit of money to continue making awesome content. I for one definitely think watching 6 mins of commercials is a small compensation we can contribute to anna's channel for the hours of time and effort anna puts into her videos for us to enjoy. I agree that her electric is inadequate. I had issues with the Renogy Batteries, I was out $800 bucks for two 200ah Deep Cycle Gel Batteries. I had original bought a 105ah Marine Battery from Sam's Club during the build. It was still in good shape even when the other batteries were toast. I bought another 5 of those batteries. It was really heavy thou. Each one was at least 100 pounds. I replaced the 3000 Watt Inverter with a 5000 Watt. Even with 636 Watts of solar panels, on less sunny days, It added to much to drain. However, I could run my AC Frig and a Microwave and my Air Fryer off grid.
