- What I would change in my van build after nearly a year on the road (and some of my favorite things!). There is very little that I would do differently, but I hope my mistakes can guide you in your own builds and ideas! In addition, I am touring around the Salt Flats of Utah and having dance parties… 😊❤️

Could you make an insulated 'shield' to put in front of the fridge to divert the heat away on nights when the heater is on? Even just a piece of reflectix might help.
The occasional dance party! My favorite part😁
Definitely seemed like you were on a different planet in this episode, but no Reavers around which is good! You are a leaf on the wind, and we watch how you soar! 😉
Hahaha no Reavers thank god!
Thank you for sharing!! I've been in a panic ever since buying my van in Sept, '20. Living in a van is something I wanted to do since 2013, and when I finally pulled the trigger I developed a very unexpected, overwhelming anxiety about taking on the project of rebuilding the DIY build that was already built into it by the previous owner. Your videos and help of friends are helping me grow my confidence in taking this on and finally moving forward with this dream of mine. Cheers and I can't wait to see more. Love those four-leggeds too!
You've got this!! Thank you for watching!!
I love your van too!
in regards to the heater issue you could fashion a detachable (magnets?) redirect to stick on the heater vent when it's running. to angle the airflow away from the fridge
💗 Love how you love your van💕 ALL the aesthetics...total work of art.
Thank you!!
Great video. Very helpful!
I’m so glad it helped!
Looking forward to it!
Yay!
your build is by far the best ive seen for the stuff i want aswell, so excited to get my own van soon thank you for the inspo
Wow! Awesome video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
love this, thanks. Nice build and living the dream.
Thank you so much!
Love your layout. Especially the bed / closet / cabinets space. Definitely taking notes for my build. Your videos are really well done too.
Glad you like them!
Have fun and take care and take it easy and enjoy 😊 it
You too David!
Great video! As always!
Thanks again Mike!
Hey Anna 😊 Definitely love the van build! The athstetics of the inside with the wood and color choices also drew me to your channel as well as your fun adventures and AWESOME personality. You bring a whole new perspective to the van life, in your style as a story teller and cinematographer. The access panels, location of the fridge and heater vent definitely lessons learned over time and one day modifications to the design will improve the efficiency and power loss in your electrical as well. Overall you share great ideas for others who are considering the life and what works best and what does not. Keep sharing your AWESOMNESS, your amazing! 😊🌲
Thank you - you’re amazing too!!
@@Tiny.Wayfinders aw you're welcome and thank youuuu ☺️🌲
In the winter, could you put your fridge in the garage and move some of your storage to the place where the fridge is now?
Another stunning video 💚💙💜✌
Thank you so much!
Great video! Love your drone footage and sunset!!
Thank you Shannon!!
Love your videos Anna! The dancing was superb as well as the drone footage, sound and editing. Blessings and much Aloha💝
Thank you so much! Aloha ❤️
More energy is usually a great idea. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Always! Thanks for watching!
I have a similar situation with my a/c in my house. The air flow blasts freezing air directly at my seating area. Deflectors fixed the situation. I MacGyver'd mine, but there are tons out there commercially available.
That’s great to know!!
Stay safe 💕
Thank you!!
14:08 What every man needs to hear.
About your fridge. Winter in a great brand. See if you can buy a thermal cover for it. If not, wrap it in refletex, cutting opening for ventilation. This will insulate at all temperatures and seasons saving energy. Next, get a thermal curtain which you can hang over fridge opening, leaving space for venting at top. Attach with small spring curtain rod, velcro, or magnets. Only use it when heat is on. See if you can get an attachment which will split the air flow on you output vent to flow side to side instead of straight. Love your van set up. One of the best.
Great ideas Connie!
Super late to the party here so I'm sure you figured it out by now, but the way I'd fix the heater/fridge issue is build an insulated panel to put infront of your fridge. Depending how in depth you want to get with it, for a more finished look you can attach the panel to make a cabinet for the fridge or if you want to just do quick and easy just make a board with some thinsulate or something to just sit infront of it. Or even something that's flexible and insulating you can just wrap around the fridge at night like a hug lol... just some thoughts!
Nice dance moves.
Thank you for the green heart :)
Hi there...can you try one of those plastic heat deflectors to push heat in a different direction?
I think this is going to be the way to go!
I LOVE your van and always look forward to your videos. I don't know if this would help or not (re the fridge and heater) but could you cover the fridge with an insulated blanket and also get an attachment for the vent part of the heater to direct it to blow down your "hallway" vs into the fridge? Again, I don't know.....I haven't started my #vanlife life yet (hopefully this fall!) but just thought I'd throw out that suggestion in case it works :-) As always, thanks for sharing!
Great idea! I may find a vent cover to divert the air - I think that is going to be the way to go! Thank you for watching!
@@Tiny.Wayfinders Yay! And you're most welcome for me watching, thank YOU for producing videos worth watching :-) (and listening to) Hope you have a great weekend!
Hi Anna salt flats look amazing, I was going ask how the salt sticks to the van, and do you pressure clean it ASAP afterwards I know we had to and it would take hours to get it off the chassis , We have an expression 😂😂“ having a party on your own” so nice job, another good video thanks for sharing. Stay safe cheers from Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
omg it took so long to clean! Such a pain to get off, but worth seeing the area! Thanks for watching again this week!
Sorry to hear about your Renogy issues. I’ve actually heard that about them from quite a few people.
They are not my favorite lol
You could move to under your bench in front on sliders
Great video. Thanks for the info on Renogy, and battery needs for fulltime life. I would reroute the heater vent to under the passenger seat. Way less work that a total Reno to move the fridge.
That could be a future possibility!
Good morning, look into 90 degree elbow for you heater
PEACE
That’s definitely what I’m going to do!
Did it work out,90 degree elbow
Hi Anna you OK ?😀really well sorted van done a very good job 👍what was it like at salt flats looked amazing
Doing great! Thanks for being here!
Love the video as always, hey you need to teach us those impeccable dance moves.....please...😎 x
Hahaha lesson 1: flail around aimlessly 😂
I am wondering if you could add some sort of piping/venting (can’t thing of the proper term) from where the heat comes out to direct the air higher up in the van somehow.
Definitely a good idea!
A hack would be line outside of the fridge with a solar blanket. Or thin insulation. Problem solved and cheap?
Love the dancing girl! 💃🏻. What kind of solar panels do you have on your roof? Ty!
Flexible renogy :)
For the freezer put a cover over or make some cuto cover the front rtains
Loved the video as always great drone shots. As for your heat/fridge problem how about a door/drawer front that would match your cabinets to help protect the fridge. Maybe lined inside with reflectix?
Unfortunately with the vent in front of the fridge, any door in front of it causes extreme condensation issues! Learned that the hard way haha 😂
Why not just open your underbed storage door when the heater is on, it's going to block the fridge anyways when it's open.
✨warm shower hack 🔥 I would just boil a pot of water and mix it in with my solar shower( just make sure you have it half hay filled with regular temped water so you won’t melt the bag!!
I do that also! I love this when on long river trips as well
Yes to Firefly....at least they gave us a movie 🍿
True!!
Try to redirect hot air from the heater up using vent pipe elbow. It's a cheap and easy solution, so you could harmlessly try it.
Nice video! Bummer about the heater/fridge situation. Could you maybe make a "curtain" or shield of sorts out of Reflectix and block off the fridge when running the heater? Seems like possibly an easier solution than relocating either component.
Oh my gosh that's exactly what I said! Great minds. :-)
I use my window covering sometimes to deflect!
where are the beginning drone scenes filmed? Is it a doable trip with front wheel drive pro master? love you guys and your channels !❤
It’s in the salt flats in Utah! And yes it would be doable, it’s flat - but beware it takes a LOT of cleaning to get rid of all the salt left on the car afterwards
Could you put a thermal blanket over and down the front of the fridge? So the heat won't hit it directly?
I use my window covering for this sometimes!
😊👍
🤗
That fridge-freezer vs heat.... what about possibly a roll-top or possibly retracting doors... like on an entertainment center
Doors open and slide into the space beside the fridge
Or roll-top over the front to the floor
That would be pretty cool - I may find a vent cover to divert the air up as well!
Put a diverter on the heater to direct the heat in another direction. You could use a dryer vent like you would see on the outside of a house type of diverter.
Great idea!
Just saw this video and curious if you have solved your heater/fridge issues?
I sold my van!
What a beautiful place. Just wondering is it ok for pets to walk bare pawed on it? Will it burn their paws?
Not at the temperature we were at! Maybe if it was crazy hot outside but they were fine when we were there ☺️
An easy fix for your heater vent across from your freezer is to get a cheap $10 heater vent that rotates to face other ways. You could easily replace or add it on the outside of the one you have and face it so hot air goes away from that hatch door and voila, problem solved. Saw someone else do this as well.
Such a smart idea!
Make some curtains was meant to say
Can you try a propane heater like a big buddy..Il love your van
I love my Propex - just not where I put it haha! I may find a vent cover to divert the air up as well!
Where are you in the video at 17:10?? What lake? It's gorgeous!😍
An alpine lake in Washington, in the Enchantment range!
@@Tiny.Wayfinders Thanks for letting me know 🤗
Question. Why does inara get a firefly name but sterling doesn't?
He looks like a Malcom to me...
Lol because sterling has been with me for 14 years - long before I discovered the magic that is firefly
@@Tiny.Wayfinders 😂😂 Such a great show...
Have a wonderful day!
Inch of foam board front of fridge? Bottom and top too?
Good thoughts!
Your hair colour is gorgeous babe! Can I ask what colour that is ? Also GORGEOUS van 😘😘
It’s a mahogany color!
Put the fridge in the bench seat... and the toilet in place of the fridge and make a door to cover it.
I’m going to just deflect the vent hahaha much less effort 😂
Could you put a door on in front of the fridge? It might help a bit. Idk a thing about this stuff, but it seems like an inexpensive attempt at helping with the problem.
I think I’m going to install a vent deflector!
I think making a tambour door would work well with keeping the freezer shielded from the heat
Good idea!!
@9:15 = Freedom!
Watch how we soar! 🤗😉
Hey Firefly, hope your mom doesn't mind if I ask you a question. You are a 2015 correct? I may be having a '15 converted. I'd do it myself but I'm not that creative unlike your mom. Have you had any mechanical issues? Thank your crew for letting me ask you questions.
Yes I am! The only real problem has been the spark plugs, which should have been replaced at 70k but were not
How about swapping the composting toilet (too tall) and the fridge (possibly not as tall)?
Or, put an angled panel in front of the fridge so the hot air bounces off & up into the room, not into the fridge?
Still, slight issues aside, I love your van ideas.
The swap would be a good idea but too much effort at this point hahaha but I am going to put in an angled vent cover
does inara ever try to take off?
Not really no.. she runs around the area but doesnt go far from the van.... I did just get a tile that i hooked on the collar so i can easily find her if she does
Could you just unroll some reflectix and put it in sort of a semi circle from the heater and in front of the fridge, but not directly in front of it. It would serve as a barrier to the hot air and redirect it.
I do use one of my window coverings to do this sometimes!
Be very careful driving on the salt! Salt will rust metal! Then you're really gonna have problems! :(
I had to wash everything down sooo much haha!
Try putting an air diverter on the outlet of your heater. They swivel 360 degrees and do not protrude to far from the opening.
I definitely think this is the way to go!
@@Tiny.Wayfinders hello again...here is where you can see a picture of what I mentioned...just look this up on Amazon...Hon&Guan 201 Stainless Steel Round Bull Nosed External Extractor Wall Vent Outlet
@wjeffp thank you!!!
You could probably "band aid" you fridge/heather problem with an insulated curtain in front of the fridge/freezer.
I do use one of my window coverings for this at times!
It wouldn't hurt to put a layer of reflectix on your cooler.
True!!
Renogy does not have any techs.. Their just normal people that say, Sorry your having this issue. Hold on let me talk to someone else.. Lucky I'm an electrical engineer. I can look some place else. As I know what to look for without over paying...
And none of there stuff works with anything.. I will say the DCC50 DC-DC charger is worth the money. It's stupid proof..
Hi, what'sapp?
Please do quickly
I'm not watching 6 minutes of commercials to see this. 😡
I have no control over the ads unfortunately 🤷🏻♀️ it won't let you skip them?
Hi Rich, maybe consider CZcams premium, I haven't had to watch commercials for years and my family and I watch CZcams enough to where its worth it for us (we don't have cable). If not, just know watching commercials is helpful and beneficial for any youtuber you watch as that's how they make a little bit of money to continue making awesome content. I for one definitely think watching 6 mins of commercials is a small compensation we can contribute to anna's channel for the hours of time and effort anna puts into her videos for us to enjoy. Hope that brings some new perspective you've never thought of before. Have a great day!
@@Tiny.Wayfinders You Tube just started a new ad format that forces you to watch ads before and during the video. There is no option to skip.
@@iVanessaRoberts Hi Vanessa. Everything in your response makes sense. I wouldn't have an issue with 6 minutes total, but 6 minutes of advertising before the video begins seems a bit excessive. I agree that we should support the artists, especially Anna, because the content is interesting and has great production values. I actually was considering premium, before your reply, so I'll probably go that route. Thanks for the advice and have a great day. 😊
Premium is so worth it..makes YT such a more enjoyable experience.
Can you use directional vents to change the airflow of the heater? Seems like something you would have already considered.
Somebody mentioned that at van fest and I like that idea a lot... I don’t know why but I hadn’t even realized that was an option before 😂 I’m definitely looking into it now
@@Tiny.Wayfinders Nice! Enjoy the rest of the weekend 😊
I agree that her electric is inadequate. I had issues with the Renogy Batteries, I was out $800 bucks for two 200ah Deep Cycle Gel Batteries. I had original bought a 105ah Marine Battery from Sam's Club during the build. It was still in good shape even when the other batteries were toast. I bought another 5 of those batteries. It was really heavy thou. Each one was at least 100 pounds. I replaced the 3000 Watt Inverter with a 5000 Watt. Even with 636 Watts of solar panels, on less sunny days, It added to much to drain. However, I could run my AC Frig and a Microwave and my Air Fryer off grid.
I definitely want more electric!!
