Hiring a company to move a fish tank/aquarium - BE CAREFUL!
Vložit
- čas přidán 4. 08. 2022
- Today I was meant to have a Waterbox aquarium delivered by a moving company here in Brisbane, Australia, but it didn't go as planned. I have never had to have a big fish tank moved, so I was very inexperienced going into it, and I didn't know what to expect. I want to share my experience incase it might be helpful for someone else in a similar position.
Timestamps:
1:40 - Plans for the new fish tank
4:41 - The story - what went wrong
---------------------------------------------------------
I also want to note that this video is not intended to slander the company and I don't name them at any point. Rather it is focussed on telling my story and what we can do as consumers to keep ourselves safe and what to look out for. So basically... Don't make my mistakes!
I hope you find this video helpful and can take something from it. If you find it helpful, please don't forget to give it a like :)

I have anxiety issues just listening to the story. Can’t imagine what you were feeling on that day! I’d have been a complete mess.
Hahaha, yes, it wasn't fun 😬 at least I had the hour and a half to sit there waiting for them though slowly losing hope 🤣
Well played, I’ve moved a custom 6x2x2-1/2 made from 1” glass and six guys struggled. Never pay cash👍
100%!!
Someone needs to invent the Fish Tank Trolley, which would of course come with hydraulic jacks, adjustable straps, and a ramp.
That would be an awesome invention!!
You should patent that! 😉
Have you ever watched the tv show ( tanked) ?
That actually exists. If you're in the US harbor freight has a few flat lift dollies
Omni. Ok knoll lnlll lol mnokloknnlnoln oonllnook lonllnnnnlnllnlollllmllllmlmllllmmlllll lol llllolllmlllm
Very informative! Thank you for sharing your experience on a topic that I haven’t seen before.
I wouldn’t have a clue, if I bought a big tank, & have it brought into my house.
I’m so glad I have nano tanks and fish. I can carry the tanks myself….😁 Thanks for sharing your experience to help others who love the big tanks….👏🏾
Me too! I have a smaller tank and along with that comes smaller problems👍🏻
I went into nano tanks for a while too after I got fed up with big tanks. It's honestly so relieving how much easier they are to deal with in terms of expense and moving. But then I came crawling back to big tanks like I always do 🤣
@@mikecole1095 You are absolutely right..👌🏽
@@Kaityscichlids At least you know what you love…💝
Great vid Katie.
I’m saving for the same tank as you with the sump.
Can’t wait to watch your upcoming videos on it. Will be great ti watch you set up the plumbing, UV and all the other ‘sump stuff’!
Thank you!! That's awesome you are saving for it, it's honestly such a beautiful tank. I think it is even nicer than the Clearpro. It's going to be great fun setting all the sump stuff up :)
Hey Kaity! 🥰 It's so cool you're getting a second tank. Woo-hoo! Can't wait to see how you set it up & the fish you choose. 🐟💜
Thank you!! Yes I'm so excited 😁😁😁
That is a beautiful tank behind you, I enjoyed it very much! This was a great public service message, thanks.
That's awesome to hear! Thank you Robert 😊
Really really great upload kaity!!!!!!
Very brave of u to share. And really great to share this experience.
Cash defs a red flag!!
Thank you!!! 😊
Does sound dodgy. In those cases I'd not only ask for a written receipt, I'd want at least 10% off as a cash discount.
Great video & very informative thanks Kaity 👍👍
Thank you so much! 😊
Oh no... you're right two guy's are not going to move a 6' aquarium with 3/4" glass without some kind of lift, and never pay cash to a moving company, I don't know how they are in Australia , but here in the States quite a few of them are shady operations. If there is a aquarium manufacture or maybe a fish shop that sells aquariums near by you might want to give them a call and ask them who moves their aquariums.
It seems like we are the same here in Australia! I am getting in contact with a local fish store who I'm pretty sure will be able to move it in a few weeks. There are a few big conventions on at the moment so they are quite busy but it's worth waiting
Hai kaity .. thanks for sharing ur experience lesson learned but u have well planned......happy fishing to u 👍
Thank you so much 😊
Hey Kaity. Thanks for sharing your experience...I'm sure this is useful info to someone. You're totally right though. For something as costly and valuable to one's self, it makes sense to be "that person" sometimes and you handled that shady situation very well in my opinion... I'd have probably gone full Madea 😅 great video again...looking forward to seeing the new addition
Thank you!! 😊
I love seeing your aquarium. You have some awesome fish. Good story too. These tanks can be very heavy and hard to move.
Thank you so much 😊 Yes they certainly can be!!
Thanks for sharing your experience, 👍👍👏
No worries at all 😊
After I saw one of your earlier videos I researched the tank. It's nowhere in my immediate future lol but Waterbox actually recommended in the video to try to hire out a local fish store as they'll have more experience in moving these tanks. They also have specialized equipment meant to load them on the cabinets as well.
Even watching the Waterbox people mount their tank felt kinda dodgy to me. Very stressful! I'm glad it didn't put you out of anything but time this go round.
Well there you go!! I can definitely see why they suggest that. And so am I, it could have been so much worse... All's well that ends well, and a good lesson learned 😊
I had a similar experience with LFS....looks like this is a common practise amongst these traders, hobbyists need to be careful about... I've heard Joey - King king of DIY and MD fish tanks talk several times about dodgy business tactics in this trade.....I was scammed into paying a huge amount upfront as cash ...only to realise google reviews were fabricated for this dealer....who was inexperienced and didn't have the right tools.... I had to pay again and pay more with local in-experienced packers and movers who did a decent job..... it was twice-thrice or five times more than I should have spent.....but i learnt it the hard way....While its nice you chose not to name the company....It's very important to call out common scam trade practices that we see in this hobby....Thanks for talking about it!
The tank is fine. A happy ending story. Thank's for sharing! 👍🏻
Thank you!! 😊
The tank and setup is so beautiful!
Thank you so much ❤
Thanks for posting this Katy , quite an eye opening tale. I intend having an aquarium or two one day !
I'm glad you found it helpful! And hopefully you'll get to have some aquariums one day 😊
Yes, its a struggle with big tanks unless you have a large family who can help out. I dont recommend nano tanks , 130l or 180l is small enough for two people to carry and fits in SUV.
65l imagitarium which i bought recently easily fits in single carseat. Even 130l can be carried by single person.
Your setup is absolutely stunning
Thank you so much 😊
I wish you the best of luck, that is no easy task. You are doing the right thing take your time and get the right people to do the job. again good luck, love your videos
Thank you Michael 😊 I think so too!
Why would anyone give u flack for this upload. Great video. Xx
No flak here:😊 I used your advice and got a GKM filter for my little 15 gal. and it works great! I am now thinking about getting a 50 gal. once again. I like your content.
That's awesome!! They are seriously great. Thank you so much Mark 😊
Good insight and thank god I haven't got a tank that big that needs moving lol
Yep!! It's really not a fun experience 🤣
I got lucky. bunurong aquarium has an awesome delivery guy who keeps fish himself to deliver a tank and it came in awesome condition, delivered on time and delivered during the weekend!
That's awesome! I ended up getting Gallery Aquatica to move my tank for me and they did a great job
Increíble tanke 💙
Thank you!!
Great Video 👍🏽
Thank you!!
LOL I'm positive I know the company you used!
I had the exact same experience with them as you did.. same language, some lateness, same attitude, etc.
Oh no 😬 Yeah it wasn't great...
Talk to a Glazier (Glass Worker) i worked as one for 25 years a lot of people came in and asks us to move there tanks it was not a problem all turned up safe . That is a beautiful fish tank you have there.
Oh I didn't even think of that!! Thank you 😊
epic lighting for a non planted tank. not hating, just noticed the 3 AI primes, pretty sweet!
Thank you!! They were the only pendant lights I could get that would fit the 19mm glass and have Bluetooth/dimmable features. I do love them though, at least they're good at growing algae 🤣
you did the right thing!
100%!! I'm so glad I found Gallery Aquatica to move them or it could have been a disaster
am here in england uk, great video and awesome information, am sure the fishkeeping hobby would be bigger if you could get proepr people to deliver etc, i wanted a tank delivery and they said they could only leave by the roadside,
Thank you 😊 I completely agree!
How exciting getting another tank! I hope it’s another African cichlids tank!!😄
I’m lucky enough to own a big van, so it has always been easy for me moving stuff around.. but I can’t believe there are this kind of “professionals” still in business… how disappointing..
You're so lucky to be able to do it yourself! Yes, it's really disappointing :(
I believe it may end up as a 'river' tank, with rainbow fish, plecos, and a mix of others that appreciate strong flow.
iv got a waterbox 320 lx 86inch by 30 by 24 me and brother tried to move around back of home and cracked the base! should have just got people who know what they are doing! know tank is just sat outside lol Keep up the good work :)
Oh gosh!! That sucks!! I'm so sorry to hear that 😭 It's definitely a steep learning curve, but I got off easy by the sounds of it. Thank you 😊
Me and my brother did a 4 ft i.m tank with no suction cups it was pretty stressful lol
It's honestly stressful even with suction cups 🤣
Sounds like you dodged a bullet with that company. 19mm thick glass is much heavier than many people realise. Cam
Yes 100%!! Thank you to you guys for doing an amazing job moving it
very useful
Thank you!
real true !!! don't give up !!!:)
100%!
What’s from the states 😎. Good for you Kaity! Trust your first instincts if you see too many red flags stop and then find someone. Don’t be concerned with offending too many people because in the end you want want what you payed for. You best advocate is you 😁 great video 🌹
Totally, that is so true!! 😊 Thank you Mike ❤️
Good insight to tank moving hopefully it helps others out like you said glad they did not touch your lovely new tank your not going to set it up before you move? That’s extra work 🤣
Thank you Wendy! So am I!! I think I will probably set it up because I'm impatient like that 🤣 I will at least get the sump going and cycle the tank. But maybe I'll hold off from full on scaping it since I'm pretty sure I'm moving in October which isn't far off. But we shall see 🤔
🤣🤣 you sound like me impatient when it comes to fish and tanks
You made a great decision.
100%! I'm so lucky it didn't work out with that company in the end
❤❤❤ beautiful
hiring someone to do the lifting was wise . I am 56 , last week I moved 14 tanks from one part of my house to another . next week I am going to have hernia surgery.......
the pain from the hernia is not nearly as bad as having to listen to my wife tell me daily what a dumbass I was to move the tanks alone !
Should ask for a copy of liability insurance from contractors. I always do that here in the US. Of course contractors (including handy men) that are licensed and covered by insurance charge more.
Definitely, but it's worth it!
Me and my brother did move my 220g 6 ft glass tank to the basement.. but yeah definitely heavy!
Well done! You must be strong!
Are you affected by the smell and humidity of your long aquarium ? How do you deal with these issues ? 🐠
No, not at all! I find that normally a healthy system doesn't smell (when it's freshwater). If it smells it can mean something is up. As far as humidity goes I haven't had any noticeable issues either in this size space
Exactly this scenario happened to me
Took months of emails, texts and unfortunately threats to get my money back
Wow!! That's horrible! I'm really glad I hadn't handed any money over as I worry I would have been in a similar position as the guy tried to put the blame on me 😬
Sorry that happened to you 😮😮😮😮
Kaity… Hi there.. I would try to have both Water Boxes to where you can see them both & Watch TV.. all within Eyes View… nice home by the way..😀
I think that would be the best option!
@@Kaityscichlids well that way you will know each fish Personality in time.. good luck..🍀😀
@@bernandoturner4840 thank you 😊🙏
@@Kaityscichlids ❤️
You could ask for client references next time that you can contact. My removal company who did a great job asked if I would be a future reference which I was happy to do and a potential client of theirs called me. I would also want to see a valid copy of their insirance certificate before they touch anything. Hope that helps
Definitely! I think those are great tips
@@Kaityscichlids Chin up Kaity.... no harm, no foul. You ended up with another insightful video, just a different flavour this time. Life is a series of lessons, but we get by
@@dascudder thank you!! 😊 That's right, you either win or you learn something. This one was a lesson, and it could have ended up a lot worse, but thankfully it didn't
Give it a crack!!! Literally! 😂😂😂😂😂 I'm dying
🤣🤣🤣 I'm glad someone appreciated my joke!!
@@Kaityscichlids I did!
19mm is so thick… probably take about 6 people to move it easily. We have 4-5 people to move my 6ft tank in 3 weeks. Oh the anxiety
Amazingly we actually managed to move it on Monday with 2 people, but with the right equipment! I'm going to upload a video of it on Friday
@@Kaityscichlids glad you were able to move it safely:)
🍼 Coochie Coo 😁 ... Kaity, at least you do not give him the cash before he finished the job.
I would think were you position the new tank ... If you put it against the wall and you will have access problems to left side of your main tank.
I would look at having a small table and lamp against the wall ... And have the new tank front right corner, meet with the old tank front left.
Maybe, move your sofa against the wall and be facing the new tank ... Its just a thought.
DO YOU NEED TO WORRY ABOUT THE WEIGHT ( TANK & SUMP )❓
Oooo that's actually not a bad idea! I didn't think of that. Thank you 😊 I think the weight will be fine because it's just a concrete slab underneath the flooring
Tanks are bigger than the TV 😅 that's awesome
Hahaha, that's the way!!
All I want to know is how do you afford all this moving?
We are in Brisbane, we're moving suburbs, can you recommend someone to catch our fish.. and possibly move them.. the removalist is transporting the tank.
Definitely Gallery Aquatica!! They are brilliant
I had a moving company move my furniture and tanks over the winter. 2/6 tanks ended up getting broken :( Next time it'll be worth it call my friends, borrow a truck and feed them pizza for helping.
Omg that is horrible 😭 what a nightmare!! I think it's definitely something we all need to be careful of in the Aquarium hobby
❤️👍🐠🤗
Thank you
Tank that size you need a professional company to move that.
For sure!
Hey kaity why don't you do goldfish for next tank if you do I will send you few beautiful goldfish
I was considering it! I think I am going to go with a South American set up though
😍🥰Beautiful Kaity,😍😘
Good decision not to have them move your WB tank.....
Trust your instincts.....If it doesn't feel right just don't do it. Way too much money involved.....your money and your tank.
You are way more intelligent and mature with your decisions than you give yourself credit for......I've gained a lot of respect for you with this video.
Wow, thank you so much 😊 That's really nice to hear. I agree, it definitely wasn't worth the risk!
😍😘❤️🥰
❤️❤️❤️
How on earth are you going to move your cichlid tank? 😬
I'm hopefully going to take another townhouse nearby so I won't have to transport anything too far. Hopefully whichever aquarium company helps me pick up the new tank, I can hire them again for the move to the new place!
What are your plans for stocking the new tank?
At the moment I'm thinking of making it a river tank. So building up a shallow section where the sump overflow is, and having it trail off becoming deeper. And maybe putting a mix of fish like loaches and rainbow fish in it
@@Kaityscichlids that will look amazing are your going down the planted route?
Madagascar rainbows and redline torpedo barbs are some beautiful fish you may like
@@james02lea I'm not too sure yet about plants. I think if I do it'll be something super simple/low tech
@@Kaityscichlids I have a hillstream tank, the flow really makes it come alive.
@@stevegee8010 I totally agree. I really love those style of tanks
That mover sounds super dodgy. Good thing he left.
I agree!
Hay iam from Indonesian, why l am here
