Yume Nikki (ゆめにっき, lit. Dream Diary) is a surreal adventure game by pseudonymous Japanese developer Kikiyama. In the game, players explore the dreams of the protagonist, named Madotsuki, where they encounter a number of surrealistic horror creatures and locations. The game was created using RPG Maker 2003, but lacks most elements commonly associated with role-playing games, such as battle, leveling up, and quests. The game's primary objective is to collect items known as "effects" that grant Madotsuki new abilities and allow players to progress to new areas, with the game ending after 24 of them have been collected. - Hry

Describing Omori as "Twitter femboy Undertale" was not something that i was expecting.
You should try Yume Nikki Gensou, it's really really good.
It's a Metroidvania-style fangame which includes almost all the NPCs in the original game, and it's fun as hell. It has a very big focus on exploration thanks to both being a Metroidvania and being based on Yume Nikki's world.

people ask me what my theories are about the game or what I think the ending is in universe. and I simply can't give a answer cuz what it is cuz all I can see is my self and more imporntly my self when I played the game.

I played Yume nikki roughly about 3 weeks after my third s*cide attempt. and the build-up and its ending sucker bunched me so hard and kicked my ass so hard. though out the game I was like yes yes a game where I can die its what I want. but after I clicked on the balcony I regretted it almost instantly. Cuz I forgot to do a bunch of the side stuff. I rushed to get that ending. I rushed to end it all. and I was like No I can't die there is so much I could live for and still do. and then i stopped my self and saw I was no longer talking about madotsuki. but my self.
yume nikki was the thing that convinced me to tell my family I was struggling and harming and attempting. and for me to get some mental help.
if I never played this game. I would never of made audio remixes of your memes, or make ike holding stuffs or make my own games like deathbed lullabye that are inspired by yume nikki or ever metting you.
so no I can't tell you what the game is about that isn't about me and what I see. I look at madotsuki and see the traumatized kid I was back then. and I just want to tell her things can get better.
to me it feels like Madotsuki jumped so I could walk *or I guess roll in my case lol*

.flow is really good, I also recommend dream graffiti (my favrite ynfg) 2kki, uneven dream (which I worked on), and a bunch more lol.
I never thought about how the abstract nature of the NPCs makes them seem like they're ignoring madotsuki, but that is very true. All of the NPCs are closer to being living pieces of the level rather than actual characters. I tend towards interpreting that as Madotsuki's inability to connect with other people. Loneliness to me seems to be one of the strongest themes, and I feel like (SPOILERS) Mars-san is one of the best symbols I've seen of that in any art. My guy's inside of a 3rd power nested dream, on a different planet. How is he gonna hang out with anybody?

I like how yume nikki despite being kind of a horror game, is not scary at all, but there are just quite some rooms that make you feel really uneasy.
