    The thing about the P300 is that it makes a lot of sense in countries with oppressive car taxes, like Ireland. The taxes are ludicrous as the engine power increases with the emissions. A new F-Type V8 here, the cheapest one, is €170,000! Even the P300 starts at €110K. But used, the P300 can be got for a price the average Joe could at least consider. A 2019 model can be had for €60K. Not cheap, but doable. In countries like this, or the Netherlands, or the Nordic countries with very high taxes on emissions, you're often left with cars like this as the only option unless you're wealthy. A bog standard, no optioned 911 costs €189K.

    • @henkjaegerde7591

    I have one of these. My reasons for going for the 4 cylinder version were:
    It’s 50% more powerful then any other car I’ve owned. I don’t know how I’d get on with more power.
    My wife uses it as well. I wouldn’t trust her with anything more powerful.
    It was quite a lot cheaper than the V6 and much cheaper than the V8.
    I think it’s one of the best looking cars available. Maybe there’s something wrong with my taste but I think that cars are getting uglier nowadays and I wanted to do something to fight back against that trend.

Jaguar began getting lost when they discontinued the XJ they got further into the doo doo with the introduction of the 4 cylinder ingenium and are way way off the map with this suicidal move to all electric.

      You have to remember that Jaguar and LandRover sell cars in markets other than the UK (well, they at least try to). Many markets make cars above 2-litre massively expensive to buy and/or run with much higher road taxes.
      Furthermore, that 2-litre engine allowed LandRover to sell the Evoque, which aimed at getting the styling appeal of the full-fat Range Rover without the running costs.
      That straight-six would have been a gem of an engine to go into a Jaguar vehicle but I don't think it ever did.
      I don't think that Jaguar, or anyone else for that matter, have any say in the matter whether to go to all-electric or not.

When I was looking at F Types a few four-cylinder ones did come up, but they seem pretty rare here in the States. You're right in that from a cost point of view they didn't offer any advantage over buying a one or two year older V6 especially as I ended up buying one with virtually no miles on it (and in all honesty I picked mine as it was the only one available in 1,000 miles in the lovely British Racing Green Metallic). I'm not sure if they offer and insurance or annual VED savings over a V6 back home?

    A quick comment regarding V6 versus V8, sure enough, they are all designed with two cylinder banks working in the same crank, but to design an optimized engine you have to consider the primary and secondary vibration as well as the power band of the cylinders. The V8 has quite an advantage here with almost perfect symmetry and overlapping power band, i.e. when cylinders act with overlapping power strokes, the optimum angle between the cylinders in a V8 is 90°. To counter the vibrations the V6 is better balanced with a 60° angle.
    You could even that out and counterbalance that with balance shafts counterrotating and swinging weight but with added weight and complexity.

    The reason Jaguars weigh so much is that they are built to frankly incredible strength standards - comparable kerb strikes to Land Rover vehicles. I know an engineer that told me about the ‘kerb strike test’ hitting a metal lined 1 sq m at 50kM/h with the front wheel and the wheel alignment is supposed to be unaffected. Details such as XE having the same wading depth as a BMW SUV - they are basically massively over specified

      That was my thinking, as well. When I found an R I liked, I just figured if I'm going to do it, I might as well go for the most visceral experience. I will say, though, that the V8 is really way more than can legally be used on public roads. If you rev the engine out at all, you're well into triple digits in just a couple of shifts. On most roads, that engine is just loafing unless you're interested in putting yourself and others in danger or going to jail. From that perspective, I understand the case for the V6 versions. Much more useable on public roads.

    Most beautiful car ever. Alas, I'm unabashedly bias, being an owner of the V8 with the rare RWD version. Although an F Type fan, I could also not see the point of the 4 cylinder apart from being able to enjoy a car with these looks without the OTT V8 on a daily basis. The F type interior is one of the best for sure. Everything falls into place perfectly. My 2016 model still has many physical buttons which is a bonus. I'd like to see more Jaguar's on the channel. Whats the chances of seeing an XJ-S !

    A reminder of how poor Jaguars product planning, particularly in engines(drivetrains) has been over the last decade or so. They missed the whole hot petrol estate sector because estates were diesels for sales reps on the motorway. How lost they became in the shadow of Land Rover, and how their head start with the iPace became the abandonment of their electric product stream.

  • @SabotsLibres
    @SabotsLibres Před 3 měsíci +2

    Er, no; that is not how all six cylinder [V] engines are made. For a start, a V8 is almost always a 90˚ V - this being optimal for the timing of an 8 cylinder V. A V6 is, as Lancia first demonstrated in 1950 with their V6 first installed in the Aurelia, optimally a 60˚ V (Ford confirmed this when their new V6 appeared in the 90s). The anomalies generally come when a single crankcase design is adapted - possibly the most well known is the V6 in the Citroën SM - this was a Maserati V8 literally with two cylinders lopped off; the Douvrin PRV followed a similar route. In a reverse move, Ford took two V6 engines and mated them to produce a 60˚ V12 for Aston Martin.

    Have a v6 awd coupe doing 476hp on 93 octane (us premium) or 550hp on e85. Superb car...the v6 sounds way better!! Matched TCU tune too...so 7200rpm redline. DSG performance in a ZF8hp70. Torque is within the ZF8's limit too.....
    I don't have any issues with the block..the car is 200lbs lighter. Glass roof. Forged (not all the 20" oem wheels are forged..in fact very few are) oem wheels. Superb looks on all angles...most of us think the rear is the best in the world ever....sorry you are a spoiler guy. V6 car has LSD, active suspension, aluminum metal paddles....ambient, coco mats...
    The V6 sounds like a 1970 F1 car and to me, in a land of mustangs, corvettes, and camaros, is way more cool. Keep that in mind. The v6 tuned is the way to go....bonkers car....3.8-4.0 not dumping it....to 100km/h time.... Sleeper cars. Also once you replace the coolant pipes with metal ones, super reliable.

    Happy owner of a 2020 P300 here in the states. Yes, I drove and loved the V8 before pulling the trigger on the 4 banger. So why did I do it? A couple of reasons. One is that I really care more about steering feel and cornering more than acceleration. The P300 has plenty of pace as a daily driver. Any more would put my license in danger. And when I really want to play, I'll take the motorcycle. Second, I'm mature (old) enough that the snarly burble of the 8 just seems obnoxious. All in all, I love the car. It has, to date, been flawless.

    We just bought a 2.0 Chequered Flag edition. Build 2020, but with the pretty nose. We don't like the facelift so much.
    Is it as fast as our 2020 Audi TT we had before? No. Do we miss it? No.
    The TT was only "fun" when you drive it like it asks you. But a relaxing countryside drive just wasn't very nice.
    This Jag gives me a smile just thinking about it.
    We could have gone for a v6, but not with all these options. And the build would then be a few years older.

    4 bangers do belong in sports cars. They DON'T belong in Grand Touring cars. The issue with the F-Type (former 550hp R owner here) is that the car tried to shoot the gap between GT and sports car.

    • @r.mtn.7477
      @r.mtn.7477 Před 3 měsíci +1

      Presumptuous semantics. In fact, the P300 F-Type behaves like a sports car because of its significantly lighter nose and model-specific suspension/steering tuning. As for it having "tried to shoot the gap...": In my opinion, it succeeded admirably, as I can attest from two years of ownership (2020 convertible) and the car's flawless performance. 295 lb.-ft. torque from 1500rpm is plenty of muscle for vigorous, everyday driving, especially if you're not obsessed with winning drag races or setting track records.

Still a beautiful car and fast but im not a fan if the turbo and the fact that you have to keep it beyween 3-5m tpm to get any decent exhaust noise, which in turn kills fuel consumption, probably more than the v8. I reckon id drive the v8 more sensibly and get giddy with lower rev exhaust noises, rhus saving fuel too. The car feels a bit wrong if in honest. I know you'll say buy something else then, but let's be honest if you love the look of the Jag you'll buy the Jag.
