Dance of the Demons | 1 Hour of Japanese War Drums (鬼の踊り)

- In feudal Japan, taiko were often used to motivate troops, call out orders or announcements, and set a marching pace; marches were usually set to six paces per beat of the drum. During the 16th-century Warring States period, specific drum calls were used to communicate orders for retreating and advancing. Other rhythms and techniques were detailed in period texts. According to the war chronicle 'Gunji Yoshū', nine sets of five beats would summon an ally to battle, while nine sets of three beats, sped up three or four times, was the call to advance and pursue an enemy.

@@warpeace3755 I saw it written in Japanese on a poster with a ninja sitting down and meditating about 11 years ago. Some guy was having a garage sale and the poster was hanging on a wall along with many other posters, it was selling for 80 cents, but when he saw how interested I immediately became after he told me what it said in Japanese and when I explained what it means, he refused to sell it to me and took it down. I never forgot the quote.
Absolutely true.
@@little.bear344 In what ways does this quote impact you?
@@mat7083 To my mind, the quote goes beyond mere activation of the pineal gland. The quote is also about having three different types of sight/vision for the three major energy centers in man: the brain, the heart and the genitals. Three is a prime number in psychoanalysis, mysticism and physics.
I just imagine i'm in Japan in a forest at that time and running away from the troops while the sound of these drums comes closer. Quite relaxing if i must say so.

Everything about feudal Japanese music puts me in a motivational mood when I’m doing anything from cooking, cleaning, going to work, painting or just anything. You’ll feel like a samurai at heart on their way into battle.
Start doing aikido you will understand more about samurais and their lifestyle and culture and eventually you will want to move to japan village because it has no difference than feudal japan
@@rofbad Thank you for the recommendation. I hope I do go to Japan someday.
This music is detested by most Triads. When Japanese music is far superior to Chinese and they know it, it grates their ears something chronic. I know from personal experience .

Found this music when looking at the Rising Sun trailer. I think I've found a theme that I always knew about but suddenly rediscovered, kind of a duh moment but still. Most if not all warrior "groups", "tribes", whatever use drums at amp themselves up. Native Americans, Samurai, Tribes in Africa, Drums on boats for the oarsmen to keep pace, Vikings, and on and on. This has transcended to movies with Sci fi, with drum beats announcing the arrival of the Klingons to battle, to the drum beats of the first Predator movie. Drums can get you going without a chant or war cry....freaking awesome.
Don't forget the drums in Battlestar Galactica.
saving this
And throat singing!
The oldest instrument
I think all armies have used drums for keeping the pace on the march and signalling. The Royal Navy used a drummer to “beat to quarters “ when the dastardly French were sighted.
This is transporting me through feudal portals during training, thank you
Totally agreed.
“Know your enemy, know his sword.”
“from one thing, know ten thousand things.”
“If you wish to control others you must first control yourself.”
“You must understand that there is more than one path to the top of the mountain.”
“Think lightly of yourself and deeply of the world.”
“there is nothing outside of yourself that can ever enable you to get better, stronger, richer, quicker, or smarter. Everything is within. Everything exists. Seek nothing outside of yourself.”
“No man is invincible, and therefore no man can fully understand that which would make him invincible.”
“It is difficult to realize the true Way just through sword-fencing. Know the smallest things and the biggest things, the shallowest things and the deepest things.”

Great stuff dude - I used this for my D&D game when the party were in a Japanese-style city!
My DM plays this everytime my Japanese Styled Archer say "Get there, I catch up with you later".
First time I did it, they entered the enemy fortress and more than half of the enemies were dead. 12 Bandits, 8 were corpses with an arrow on the chest, neck or head.
thats a super idea. you made me remind while playing OD&D back in high school that were good old times
currently writing a japanese themed campaign and using this as well! us jacobs think alike
Nothing is better than looking for a track to use for DnD and finding a fellow DM
If I'd known about this sooner, I would have played this as background music for my final boss battle in my Pathfinder game I was running earlier this year, which was set in the rough equivalent of Tokugawa era Tokyo! It was a proper final fight and this would have been worthy music for it.
If I'd known about this earlier this year, I would have had this playing during my Pathfinder game, which was set in the equivalent of Tokugawa-era Tokyo. It would have been played at key moments, because there is so much to it with various feels and moods; the moment that begins at roughly the 8 minute mark would have been good for when one of my major NPCs committed seppuku and one of the players whose character was a foreigner was horrified by that event. I'm definitely putting this on my Liked list for future use and reference, for sure. Good work, sir!

Excellent music, all of your creations. Admittedly though, I'm more into the drums, especially Dance of the Demons, the title, art and music itself speaks to me. I could listen to at least 10 minutes of it once a day every day, it's my theme song. If I had the money, I would buy your current music on your channel in CD and MP3. Thank you for this creation!
Thanks a lot Robert :)
@@audaciouscues7219 can you tell me which instruments you used in this song. I dont have the money yet but I plan to buy a Taiko drum to just have and play for myself as like a destressor and something fun to play that is more me. Years ago I went to Japan and ended up playing a lot of that arcade game Taiko No Tatsujin and it's simple enough that I know I'm gonna buy it for my kid for the Nintendo when he comes back to live with me. But if I were to buy a real Taiko I would want to buy the right one so that's why I ask which ones you used, I feel like I've heard 3 or 4 different size drums in this particular song. Aside from the symbols/triangle and wood blocks being played. And yeah eventually I'll buy more but for the first one ya know...
