Watching from my g8 I love the phone was a nice upgrade from g7, nicer screen, better chip, more ram, more Rom and bigger battery but the one thing I hate is why the American version didn't get the 3 camera setup.
The battery life is negligible and the screen is actually pretty bad honestly, it's not as bright and the color accuracy is meh
@@chrisodell6107 I had a g7 for 6 months and between the 3000mah battery and the 4gb ram the phone was mediocre as hell the g8 is what the g7 should have been. Between the new chip and the new screen i'm seeing about 30% longer usage on my g8 and 30% isn't "negligible" maybe on paper 3000mah vs 3500mah seems meh but in real world the oled and the sd 855 make it a night and day difference vs the g7 ability to last.
The british version didn't get ANY cameras!!! for some bizarre reason lg isn't releasing the phone here!! So I've had every "g" phone from the g2 upwards, so much for loyalty eh??
@@chrisodell6107 I agree G7 has the better screen. LG mobile OLEDs suffer from a grainy image quality & black crush/smear. Their high end TV OLEDs are better.
@@Franknpipe idk but the screen on my G8 is miles ahead of my samsung S8. The tint usually on oled is almost non existent on my G8.

Great usable side by side review! It was incredibly helpful to see both phones in action side by side as you took both phones though your paces of production and gaming apps as well as camera usage. I agree with you that there is not enough difference between the LG G7 and the LG G8 but in my case I have to replace my G7 and my carrier (t-mobile) is running an excellent sale on the G8's right now (BOGO Free). So, for me it's a great purchase since both my daughter and I need new phones. Well done! I'd love to see more of these types of reviews.
How many think Screen on G7 is better or looks better overall???
Both of them are 100% DCI-P3 but g8 is better overall because its Oled
@@jaysealenduro5618 it's also got that dark pinkish tint, only advantage OLED has is that of high colour contrast and it's more dynamic, rest the IPS looks more natural.

But for me i really like lg lcd because they're the best on screen displays im using g6 but if they made oled it will be better lg's oled on g8 is the perfect screen its accurate as an ips quantum lcd when viewing videos but its more vibrant like what most people want but not like samsung amoled its over saturated but g8 oled its not
If you watch in 1080p, the g8 has a noticeably sharper screen.

I tried the same tests as you did for chrome with my G7, same websites and got faster results did u clean ur G7 using the smart cleaning app before testing? Was at 20% signal strength for my Wi-Fi.
Did you do something wrong with the G8 audio? Because it sounds terrible, like it was the lowest possible quality settings..
Lg today it's hard to find at major retailers in Switzerland, after V30 all top devices are really good and with 3D face unlock ....battery and updates are the possible issues...

When you do the speed tests why don't you sent them on the table? Super annoying with the phones moving around like that.
I have a G8 ThinQ. The audio on recorded video sounds as if the set is underwater. Some would describe it as tinny, but this audio is different in that it adds a wobbly unsettling noise like a sound effect from a horror movie. The only way to fix this is to use Open Camera instead of the built-in camera app. In Open Camera, go to Settings > Video settings > Audio source > Unprocessed. Changing this will make audio sound natural. Using Open Camera may not be a fix because you're sacrificing all the features of LG's app. I've used many iPhones in the past, and none had this problem so far. I hope LG is reading this.
Thanks for the test. I could care less about speed. I just wanted to know if the camera was a huge leap. And it’s not. In my opinion I think the g7 has better low light performance and the g8.

In the video test the G7 was picking up the street noise and the G8 was picking up the background noise

I might be going LG for my next phone. My Nexus 5X has been great and I've owned LG's before. Plus I don't like in-screen fingerprint scanners, don't like Active Edge and not plopping down over a grand for a SG Note 10+ with only a 60 Hz refresh rate especially when the SG 11 is right around the corner.

The latest update for the g7 made its ram management worse. But the battery life is better. It sucks though having to load each app again.
Yeah, i did notice that when i go to home screen then go to app drawer click the app that i already open, it will open again as from the start
I think the video test part is opposite or maybe some technical issues when editing or uploading your video cause g8 mic doesn't sound like there's a water inside the mic

The G8 just has better optimization with OLED but it's not better than LCD for battery life that's a proven fact that LCDs consume less power, plus the Snapdragon 855 is more power efficient because of the new 7nm processing power.
oled is more battery efficient for darker colours while lcd is better for lighter colours thats why apple has always used lcd for their iphones' white ui

G7 One is using Snapdragon 835, G7 ThinQ is Snapdragon 845. In terms of hardware, the G7 ThinQ is better. In terms of software, the G7 One is better because using Android One with faster upgrades.

I have a 3a coming in for my Fi line, using a Moto z3, which I got for like almost nothing between selling a few older devices and credits from BB. I didn't order the XL version because all of my phones are large, wanted something smaller for a change up. I did do one of those TMO scheme's, needed another line, her ip7 was starting to fail (not interested in phoneOS arguments). Basically she traded in a broken ip7, she got the 10Xr I paid like $40 extra to up her to 256gb, they had one left in red which is the color she wanted. In my case it works out, she had it since last fall.
Bought my 3a through Fi, should come sometime this weekend. Not in a rush. I did have like $30 in equipment credit do to some logistical problem with not being able to receive incoming calls.. So basically it paid the sale tax, and get $100 credit towards my Fi line, which means free service for 4 months. I bought my G8 brand new locked to T-Mobile for $500 which included a Speck case, which seems to go for about $26. on Amazon but using a Spigen Tough Armor which I use on most of my phones. Sadly Spigen doesn't have their full line of cases for the G8. If you can snag a G8 for $500, I would get that over the 3a. And nice birthday present either way.
I'd get an LG phone over a pixel ANYDAY... no learning curve or knowledge of tech needed. Wide angle is easy to use.

G8 had darker video at night, but had better stability.
I have both phones, 2 lines, use them every day, still like the G7 way more... Especially the speaker on the G7...

I had the G7 and now have the G8.. I agree,the G7's external speaker seems to be louder. That thing was nice and loud . The G8 seems to be more tame.

I got that too. Better white... PURE whites on G7 and better sound. Better than G8... not worth getting the G8 although it wins in other areas.
@@fatold50 If you are lucky enough to live near a MetroPCS store from what I've heard they will waive that fee, or call them and speak with them first. Still it's a pain the butt.

@@PhoneBattles And if you do get an import they are going for over $1,000. Honestly don't think it's worth it at that price. Also add into it no warranty. I even registered my TMO it on LG's website. And T-MOBILE knows I have it because it shows on my profile. While I usually don't buy carrier phones, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a stolen product being re-sold. The vendor had good reviews, and did a follow up email to make sure I was happy.
Is the G7 running Pie? BTW these stupid "benchmarks" are doing nothing more than noting the eMMC storage performance differences and that would be because the G7 has 64GB whilst the G8 has 128GB. Larger SSD = Faster/greater throughput.

@@Baleent7 Odd thing here in the US, some vendors were selling them for $600 /700 or so. Might have been an intro price because I see these same vendors like B&H and Best Buy are charging like $800 for an unlocked model. BTW B&H ships internationally.

Got my G7 few days ago. Bought it like brand new second hand for only 270€, sadly G8 amd V40/V50 not coming in scandinavia.. If someone sell there G8 here in sweden, i'll buy it. Waiting few months tho for cheaper price ;}

@@FranciscoGuevarra Exactly and at $500 delivered to my home with a US warranty from LG and T-Mobile I jumped on it. Most people want unlocked, most people want the red color. Since I use that carrier, prefer black and case my phones it didn't make a difference to me, in about a month, my carrier will unlock it when I put in the request.
On the lg g5 love the interchangeable battery feature which I personally think should of been kept on their new models. One of their best feature

Yes, upgrade! It's worth it for the battery, newer version of OS, screen, go to swappa.com and get a deal on it. I like it because of the contacts on LG phones let you have unlimited characters in the notes section in the contact. Samsung phones limit you. Thanks for the review.

Screen is not nicer than G8. G7 white is pure compared to G8 and many other phones. I hate that greyish white on most phones. G7 is pure white and very bright even without the boost. Everyone talks about deep blacks but I hate dull white on a phone. I have a Note 9 and prefer the G7 screen over that also and it has a great screen for watching content... AND with better audio too than G8.

On a lot of of the app tests it looked like the G7 was forced to load them from memory, while the G8 still had them in RAM. Not a fair test.
They are properly rated for what they deserve. No pie update on last year flagship until now. Is that a joke? Even LG don't take their smartphones seriously, how could they expect it to customers then?

I was outside having a cigar and watching your evaluation on my G8. First LG phone I have had. I picked it up sealed with a Speck Presidio case delivered $500. The only downside is it was locked to T-MOBILE. Which I use. It is a great device for what I spent. As an earlier post said. An underated device. At list price. It's still a good device. And noticed. A week or so later the general price for what you would spend increased. Do I think it's camera and display are as good as the S10. No, but not a lot worse. I also think the large CZcams evaluators had a negative or neutral stance can be do to bias or some relationship with other brands comes in.
I generally don't buy carrier phones. But at the price I can live with it. I think TMO put 3 apps on the G8. Which I use, except for the Hotspot app which can be disabled and just redirects you to the phones feature. Getting used to the buttons doesn't take long to get used to. And prefer the power button to the S10+. Thank you for your evaluation.
