- We bought the homestead of our dreams on 2 1/2 acres of land in New Zealand. We are so excited to renovate our home, learn about permaculture and how to regenerate the land. One of the first things I'll be doing is getting the vegetable garden ready for spring. We also have an orchard of fruit trees!! So crazy. We will be slightly off-grid and have hopes to go fully off-grid with solar in the future. I can't wait to share our homesteading journey with all of you.

I’m not sure if y’all are Christians or not but God has definitely blessed you!! I have chills watching your next chapter unfold. I’m so, so happy for the both of you and can’t wait to follow along. Thank GOD those last two offers didn’t go through! My husband and I went through something similar this time last year and found our (very likely) forever home. Our first offer didn’t go through, and we were heartbroken. Now looking back, THANK GOD! We’re now settled out on a rural plot of land almost 1 acre and the neighborhood is so spread out that it feels like we have more land than we do LOL. This used to be a farmland back in the 50s and we plan to reintegrate that slowly over the next several years!! We have started a small veggie and herb garden this year, and your content couldn’t be more inspiring for this!! Amazing news guys! I live in Orange NSW (cool climate in Australia) sort of similar to NZ. If you haven’t already you should watch “The Gourmet Farmer” and “River Cottage” - these are both Aussie shows showing the journey of people learning about setting up homesteads, kitchen gardens and hobby farm animals with the help of local knowledge and permaculture principles. Congrats on the house! Little NZ recommendation, I reckon you two would love the TV show ‘Country Calendar’. A real NZ classic, it’s normally on 7pm on a Sunday on channel 1 (not sure whether y’all are TV watchers) but it’s all about people around NZ who have farms and what they do and all that good stuff. Best TV show to ever come out of NZ, please get amongst I reckon it’s right up your street!
You’re absolutely right. Country Calendar is the one thing that got us through lockdown in LA. We had to find the episode on CZcams as it’s not available in the USA but it got us so excited about our move. Alex’s dad being a kiwi got us on to the show. It’s so good!!

Ahh how lovely you have moved into the beautiful Wairarapa, where I live too:). A wonderful resource for permaculture in the region (Carterton) is Helen Dew, she is a brilliant, interesting woman, doing lots of teaching around permaculture- a book had just been written about her. Maybe one day me and my three dogs will see you and Lanka around some where:). A tip- the very best (of many wonderful places) place for dog walking it Lake Wairarapa/Wairarapa Moana - at the reserve out of Featherston. Enjoy the emergence of your garden- how things grow here is magical!

Great choice of location. You'll find the summer temperatures very hot as it's normally a good 5 or so degrees (Celsius) warmer than the Hutt Valley/Wellington City

You'll love the Wairarapa! I lived in the South Wairarapa as a teenager (didnt appreciate it at the time of course and left as soon as I could), but I go back about twice a year to visit my mum and stepdad and its so nice and relaxing.
I dunno where in the Wairarapa you are gonna be, but check out the Martinborough Fair. It happens every year on the first Saturdays in February and March. So good but get there early, it gets pretty crowded...like attendance numbers are usually at around 30K each time,
