I would move back home in a heartbeat. The lifestyle and friendly people are not something that I have come across after 40 years in Australia. I miss the greenery and just everything. I realise that things change but it's home.

I lived in Sydney for 30 plus years. I moved back 3 years ago to rural Taranaki. I had bought a cottage about a year before leaving Australia and rented it out until I returned. Although two of my children and my grandchildren are still in Australia - I am so glad I came back. The stress levels here compared to life in Sydney's Inner West (Balmain) are almost non-existent. The little village that I live in reminds me of what life was like back in the 60's-70's. I hope you manage to make it back. Take care.

Gosh I would never move back to NZ from Denmark. Prices are horrendous and health system has really deteriorated. The way the country has changed shocks me. Forced vaccination terrible division during corona and censorship from govt shocked me. Work life balance is great in Denmark and despite high taxes financially much better off here. Relaxing life great welfare system close to Europe. Only problem is winter

      Kia Kaha.
Denmark sounds like a really nice place.
This is a real win win situation.
You wouldn't come back here. AND we don't really enjoy people who have a lot to moan about.
I absolutely love NZ and I wouldn't want to go anywhere else.
A lot of us here think about what we can DO for the land, wildlife and all our people. Not just what we can get out of everything and how to find some kind of perfect place.
All my family and mates care about the land, trees, ocean, rivers, wildlife and other people, te reo, our culture, our fallen soldiers, our heroes and our laidback culture, peace, humanitarianism, manaakitanga and kotahitanga.
My view is that the world has some very pressing challenges at the moment. There is a lot to do instead of complaining about stuff.
Kia ora to everyone who loves this wonderful motu and loves people too, warts and all.

      @barbsmart7373 Před rokem +4

For the benefit of others here, don't believe all the nonsense you read.
Of course we have never had forced vaccinations here!
We are inspired by a government that cares about its people. Thousands of lives were saved during Delta.
Thousands of Maori, Pacifica and Pakeha worked really hard to help do this. So thanks to everyone who helped!
People reached out and deep into their communities knowing that many would die if not vaccinated. Even overstayed were reached.
You can't really compare countries, and nor should we. And nor should people make up stories.
We have very many Polynesian people here. They are like family here. I recall when Pacific people with covid were 40 times more likely to go to hospital than the rest of the population.
We are proud of how we all came together during the years of covid. That is how 96% of our eligible people got vaccinated. What tangatawhenua did up north and Pacifica did in South Auckland was awesome.
The only division I think that crept in was from the people who got swept up by the conspiracy theories about vaccinations.
We are not divided here. Maybe somewhere else, but not here.
Race relations are admirable as pakeha slowly honour the treaty more and more. We all embraced Matariki Day and are proud of it.
I recall standing beside a Muslim lady when we all got together en mass to demonstrate our good will towards our Muslim people. I haven't noticed division here.
The world is facing some challenges, the whole world. Living costs are some of them. Everyone does their best. We have labour shortages- the world has. Nurses, teachers, builders, cleaners... everyone keeps on going.
      If anything, we bond more.
Life isn't bad because it it is hard. It is worthless if it lacks meaning.
With a great attitude we cannot be satisfied almost anywhere. That's something Victor Frankl showed us.

I miss bird calls and the bush in NZ Most of all it's where my best friends are. I also agree, New Zealand has changed a bit since I left, and I've only been away 7 years, but when you watch the NZ news, etc, you realise it has changed a bit, especially with the increased use of Te Reo Maori

I was away from NZ in the UK 2018 to the end of 2020. Came back during the plandemic. I really noticed the changes especially the increased use of Maori in the media. Have to say I miss England (Somerset) and would rather be there but circumstances don't allow at the moment. NZ is not what it was when I was growing up. Increased crime and cost of living through the roof. I wouldn't swap the Cotswolds for NZ.

Awesome to hear this podcast with Tim he’s still a kiwi. As a kid we lived in Christchurch & went to Greymouth (West coast) to visit family. Two weeks of rain we bemoaned parents to take us home to Sumner real warmth and beaches.
I lived for many years in SEQld Australia arrived home to Auckland have decided best area for myself- yes expensive - so is UK. EVERYWHERE.
Because Te Reo has become normal the same happened in Hawaii late 80’s
We haven’t had a winter this year ( Brian) except tropical atmospheric rivers from Fiji Vanuatu which decimated areas of Nelson/Blenheim.
Thank you both for your work. I laughed uproariously on catching Ferry ⛴ to Greece. “Memories” Crossing the road to another country lol I had many schoolgirl phrases I used in France -Spain - Italy rest sign language 🤟🏽.
Latterly spent time in Thailand- Phillipines everyone speaks English.
⛷ sking in winter no snow on ski fields Ruapahu this year...
Many folk think NZ has changed but life evolves. Christchurch- Dunedin are lovely but remember one 1 million peeps in South Island.

I absolutely fell in love with New Zealand . My son left Britain ten years ago to visit his then girlfriends family and never came back 🙈 . He now has a new partner and two boys . In lyttleton
I visited in March 2019 and fell in love with the place . Not been back yet because of the covid situation . I haven’t had the vaccine and am waiting for it to be lifted for travel into nz . I visited greymouth and punakaiki whilst there . I would love to move there but I’m 58 too old to be accepted and I also have children and grandchildren here . So
Looks like I will just be visitor as often as I can . I would love to have six months uk and 6 in nz . That would be amazing 🤩

Thank you so much for sharing Susie, we really appreciate it. 6 months in each country would be a dream and I'm sure that once you are able to travel again you will get to see your boy and your grandkids more often. Thank you again, my friend and good luck! 🥰

Fantastic video :) thanks very much for sharing. We are looking into relocating from the UK. We are from South Africa originally but have lived in the UK for 8 years. We are really confused about the weather. Some sites say its just as grey and rainy as the UK and some say its alot sunnier! Any clarification would be appreciated :)

    • @Agnemons
      @Agnemons Před 2 lety +5

As a rule of thumb the west coast is wetter than the east coast. The difference is away more marked in the South Island because the east coast is in the rain shadow of the Southern Alps and the Westcoast is orders of magnitude wetter than the UK. (Milford Sound averages around 900mm per month. The highest recorded is at Price River on the Hokitika river at 25 Meters).
North is generally warmer. As far as average sunshine hours are concerned the worst areas (excluding the Chathams) are on a par with the best areas in the UK and the best areas significantly better (Blenheim 2475 hrs on average. Auckland 2003 hrs).
I would suggest to anyone thinking of moving to go and see for yourself. It's not that big a place, so not that difficult to get around, but man is it varied.

I find it so funny Kat, I'm NZ born and lived here most of my life. We know we could be devastated by a quake at any moment and the Alpine Fault is due to blow. Yet, whenever I leave the country, I worry about snakes, and feel a tremendous sense of relief when I return and realise there is no danger of encountering a snake - but don't worry about quakes until they happen
