Just recently picked up one of these rifles and I have to say, I really like it. It does need some break-in to run smooth, but every Savage rifle I've owned has needed that. Usually takes about 200 rounds for it to smooth out....I changed out that small bolt handle to one like what comes on the 110 Tactical. Good video, hope to see more with this rifle!

I have savage a 110 precision 6.5cm mbt and only use their poli magazines.. My bolt really liked to be cleaned and that little lower right guide rail loves light clear grease - the lugs as well.. Run my trigger at 1.9 lb- it's perfect!! Degreased the scope rail screws and holes (trued the rail to bubbled center), custom fit fresh screws for maximum depth without bolt interference, torqued to 15 inlb with blue locktite.. Shooting my ammo build with .002 bump,.013 jump off the lands, 42.5 of 4832sc 140 hornady match hollow points.. It's a beast, one hole blaster at any distance.. Might try a bolt lift kit but its smooth now, we shall see!!

Sounds like you have it purring like a well oiled machine! That's awesome. Our next step will be the bolt lift, but to your point if it's running smooth and accurate, don't fix what aint broke right. Thanks for watching and for sharing.

I've owned one in 6.5 Creedmoor for about a year. I had the same experience with mine. Crappy Savage mag from the factory. Bolt was a bit sticky too. I've polished the bolt and switched to MDT mags. Much better. When I first used it, my ejection/extraction was awful (super weak), so I called Savage and they sent me new extractor/ejector parts. After changing them out, it was much better. Apparently, they had a some issues with this on some of the rifles that were produced at the time I bought mine. I installed a larger bolt handle on it. It looks cool and gives the handle a little more momentum to extract rounds. Very accurate rifle for a really good price, as precision rifles go. I bought mine for around $1400, a year ago.

Does the Impulse Elite Precision solve the smooth action problem?

  • @matsuwesty2

My optic is an Athlon Argos BTR 8-34 x 56 scope. It works well out to 1000 yards. I would have liked a Vortex Razor HD, but those cost quite a bit more for an improvement in optic quality I wasn't prepared to pay that much for (not yet, anyway).

I hear ya for sure. Would be great to have a Razor on all your guns, but you'd need a second mortgage to do it. Thanks for watching.

I have the axis ii precision $650. It shoots great. For the cost increase I'd rather hold out for a few dollars more something else. For that money , bolt should be smooth. Disappointing that price increase doesn't improve this issue.

Have had mine in .308 now for a little over 2 years. The mag does suck but I normally load one at a time anyway. Hate the trigger with that inside lever. Very distracting. Switched it out for a Timney, much better. The stock and what you can put on it is great. I did melt down a bunch old decoy weights in a mold that I fabricated, and the extra weight really cut down on the recoil. That being said If you are thinking about a different muzzle brake the barrel threads are very short. Alot of the brakes won't have enough thread engagement. But overall, its a good range gun. Now I just need to find a range that is longer then 300 yards.

I just bought this rifle and I’m also getting a vortex razor. My question for you is what height rings did you install on that?

    • @mwmag
      @mwmag  Před rokem +1

I believe they were 34mm at 0.92. I personally like the Arken Halo Scope Rings and because of my size, I typically use the 1.26 mediums. But have also used the 0.92 lows. All real nice scope rings. Hope that helps and thanks for watching.

The good thing about a cheek riser is, you can put extra high rings on it and it still be shootable. I was talking to a fella that shoots really far, regularly, and he gave me the answer above when I asked him what height rings I should buy.
ETA: I would buy Vortex Pro high rings(1.45” to center) for 34mm tube.

Picked mine up about 3 years ago and just started shooting PRS with it in the last 6 mos. It doesn't like Savage/MDT AICS metal magazines - nothing but problems. Recently switched to MDT polymer mags and no problems with cycling the action. You're really paying for MDT chassis cause everything else is C grade with the exception of the trigger - excellent!! If Savage could make their actions silky smooth like the Tikka Tac A1 then the 110 Elite would be a Winner.

I have this rifle and I can see you having the same problem. That bolt is a POS. Nothing smooth about it. I think that is a well known Savage issue...crappy bolt open/close. I like the rifle and have hit at 1,400 yards with it but I have at least $3K in it and that bolt should run like "butter." It doesn't.

  • @lihaikun

tried the feel with a used one at Cabela's. Bolt was very sloppy that prevents smooth operation (can also see in the video), grip on that one was already wobbly. I would rather pick a Tikka or Bergara with this price TBTH.

In the beginning scenes, why do you have so many problems working that bolt mine is as smooth as butter?

Well, it is a Savage firearm. What did you expect from Savage...quality? No way. I had changed out the Savage-installed barrel, junk! Chattered barrel deeply.

A Bolt lift? Please explain in laymans terms.

You use a bolt lift kit, which modifies the bolt’s internal mechanisms to reduce friction and improve cycling.

Struggling is the common theme lately, if shooting from bipod, tripod, bag, any way rifle is supported, a right handed shooter needs a left handed rifle! Trigger hand should never leave the grip!!! Left hand works the bolt, mag change, scope doping. Most people been shooting wrong for 100 years! If you watch and observe even pros like Erik cortina struggling! Doesn't know he's struggling! Be open minded and try my way. Example for corporate ignorance: carpenter jeans have hammer loop on left side while98% of carpenters are right handed. Bolt action rifles are different should be shot different!
