Some people just keep making small payments and let the interest keep compounding so that they can look at their bank account and pretend they have more money than they actually do.
Mic drop ......
well, in case an emergency happens, you have cash today, you have room to manouver .
He likes to stare at that $45k in savings while turning a blind eye to the offsetting debt.
agreed, He thinks I'm rich!
I fall victim of the same thing, I have $622 debt left to go and 3k in my checkings
Ya'll, lets stop asking Dave what to do if we have debt. Just pay it off.
This is just the best comment ever wow
so simple and straight forward but unfortunately these kids aint thinking straight, my guy
I agree with you Nehemiah
Wrong, the interst rate is what matters most
Louder for the people in the back.
I don’t understand people who call up and say “I’ve been listening to you for a long time” and then proceed to tell Dave how they’re not following his plan.
She has $15,000. With -$8,000 on a car loan and -$5,000 for the wedding. That leaves her with with +$2,000 herself.
He has $45,000. With -$6,500 on student loans, -$16,000 on a car loan, and -$5,000 on the wedding. That leaves him at +$17,500.
After marrying, that leaves them at +$19,500. That’s baby step 4 automatically!!!
BABY STEP 4!!
They most likely had other plans with that money and it bust his bubble when Dave said that. But if you call Dave the answer is always going to be to pay off your debt lol.
@@nehemiahstewart True. They I’m sure wanted to buy a house, that’s still almost $20k for a down-payment on a home. They’re on 3B at minimum. But you’re 100% right, if they’re calling, the answer will always be the same. Pay off the debt.
And if they were to divorce
$11750 for her and $9750 for him
20k is no good for 6 months
Save the cash and never pay off your car early, and never finance a car higher than 3% so the interest will never be a problem
@@johndone8045 Ah yes I'm sure that's what Dave teaches, take out finance and don't pay it off early. You're a fool.
They’re right about paying off the debt. Psychologically, you think you’re more broke when you pay off debt but in reality their net worth will still be the same.
Everyones a personal finance expert until we talk debt
Right because you’re one step closer to owning what you’re investing in, and it’s still there! Biggest thing left unsaid in financial management advice.
yes this is so true and if you feel poor after paying something off it might mean that you couldn't afford it!
There better off in the longrun from beating the years of interest they would have kept paying
In 2010, $200K houses on my street sold for $40K CASH Only.
In 2020 they sell for $300K.
There are all kinds of deals, when no one has Cash.
He doesn't sound too convinced by Dave's opinion 🤣
Half his callers already have their mind made up n ask questions for som they already know the answer to
He might just need some time to process it.
Neither does Chris!
The worst thing is someone who has money to pay off debt but doesn't pay it because they think debt isn't costing them anything or is okay to have it.
Hi Dave, very good content you are broadcasting. Regards from Brazil.
"After the honeymoon, you are going to knock it out ". Yup... That is solid advice
Classic Dave/Chris team up. Love it
Most people’s parents can’t pay for anything on their kids wedding
Mine pay
@@chalimi.fithratu privilege
Kids should not get married though. If they can't pay cash then they are either looking out of their league or they are not ready yet. Also depends on local culture.
@@Kevin-jc1fx I don’t mean kid as in below 18 years old. I just hear that a lot of moms and dads do pay for some of their adult child’s wedding, which is ridiculous
@juliettezea9507 they pay as a gift. Once they are married, the couple will pay for a lot of things.
They both had enough saved to pay off their cars now. I think maybe Dave got the numbers mixed up
Pay your debts off dude.
They live in Atlanta too God bless them
In other words, his baby step 1 was 3-6 month emergency fund. Don’t try to tweak the program!
"pinky swear and start writing checks", that's the quote of the day folks
I am getting married on march first. We are spending about 2000, including the honeymoon.
That is the way to go! My husband and I did the same in 2018 after seeing some of our friends go $10,000 - $20,000 in debt for a their wedding... only for them to get divorced within the following 6 months... 🤦♀️
I would never expect my future husband to pay my car. People need to start taking care of their own debt before getting married. I don’t agree with paying off anyone’s debt. Married or not.
@@thedaveramseyshow4403 how did you get the same CZcams name as him
I hear you. My wife was the same way and it took me a year to convince her to help me pay off her student loans. But it’s different when you do it together and it pays down faster, saving the household a lot of money.
Most people get married with some debt, especially if they marry young. A good marriage makes you a better person and motivates you to get your act together.
Maybe I'm too much of an introvert, but the thought of spending. Whole day being "on" and entertaining others sounds so draining to me.
Glad I got married at the courthouse
If you are male, that was a bad move. Now the courts know to financially fleece you.
Yeah you're just an introvert. Not unusual. Infact I don't like going to any public places with a lot of people, and doubly so if I am a focus like a wedding. Id be so scared/ stressed.
They’d do even better by skipping a wedding completely and going to the courthouse 🤷🏾♂️
Or forget the courthouse. Just have a small wedding and do not allow the state to see it as a wedding.
@@wewhoareabouttodiesaluteyo9303 true. That works too, especially in the current climate.
Thats a personal choice. Not something to comment on.
@@staceystrukel1917 except he’s calling into a national program and putting his “personal choice” into the public forum 🤷🏾♂️
Spent 20k on my wedding when i was 23; best money i ever spent. Although my financial situation wasnt the same as theirs
Don’t use entire savings to pay debt during pandemic..make a plan to use a portion of money to pay off slowly...what if you loose your job
. Debt can wait but you have to survive and get food on the table during job losses.
Make sure not to spend large amounts of money for the wedding because it’s useless and has no benefits .
We did our huge wedding and 2 week honeymoon in Florida for under $5,000 back in 2005. We spent $1500 for the wedding and $1000 for reception. Then we splurged on the honeymoon and spent $2500, including lodging. You just have to know people, be patient, and learn to compromise one a few things.
It’s not useless. Don’t be stupid. It’s useful in the fact that you’re making a commitment in front of family. Marriage is useful for a multitude of things do so is the ceremony. Don’t be so nihilistic.
@@anthonyparker3713 It sounds like you conflate "wedding" with "marriage." My grandparents got married at 18 in the local courthouse. Spent next to nothing. They have millions now, and are still together. Trust me, you don't need a huge wedding.
@@anthonyparker3713 Marriage is not useful for anything
@@wewhoareabouttodiesaluteyo9303 completely disagree. It’s useful for life. It means you’re oriented properly into the world.
It’ll take decades to get financially ready to get married
No 😅
It will if you never start
Lol “pinky swear and start writing checks “
Start writing the checks ✍
Gosh it amazing me how people don’t realize what marriage means! YOU 2 are ONE. Her money is his money, his money is her money. You inherit EACH-OTHERS debt. Don’t get married if your unwilling to sacrifice for your family. It will make your family be in a better place than you’ll be if you stay stingy, entitled, and single minded.
Sounds great until she leaves you high and dry after you paid everything off for her. Hypergamy floats.
Shariah, no it is not. If you do not believe it, it will not happen that way.
@@michaelpalumbo4880 I think it shows that one gender (not males) do actually believe they are entitled to everything. lol
@@michaelpalumbo4880 He needs the female demographic and they are the reason why males are in trouble, financially, and needing his help. Notice how most of the people who call in are married and not single.
@@michaelpalumbo4880 i watched a lawyer speak about this on TFD and I think he said quite the opposite. Will have to rewatch that and research lol
Did I miss something? They both have the cash to pay off their own debts asap with cash to spare for the wedding. ? 👌 that’s not a problem?
For financial advice from me...
People rather have extra cash than be debt free!
Caller: I love your program, I really gravitate towards it.
Dave: my program says pay off your car

Shes out and takes half once he pays everything off 😄
Uncle simp strikes again.......
Our wedding, in a church, cost right about 2k. My parents paid for it as a gift, and it was nice. It's incredible what you can do for 2k.
For financial advice from me...
thedaveramseyshow8....@....….g....m....a.....i....l....c....o....m...
2k is expensive
@Estyria - Neither one of my sons and wives had weddings that cost that much. One pair had it in Garden of the Gods here in Colorado Springs with just the immediate family and the other pair hiked into the mountains and videoed their vows in the forest. No special gowns, bridesmaids, groomsmen, etc. for either one of them.
Mine was a lot more, $600, 49 years ago in a church, with bridesmaids and groomsmen, I made some of the snacks, my aunt made the floral arrangements and I got a wedding dress in a smaller size to fit my torso rather than getting one that fit my shoulders and have to have it altered. All the other dresses were handmade by talented family members. I know it was a long time ago, and we only had the basics, but I cannot imagine having to spend $15,000 on a wedding!
If I wanted to contact the Dave Ramsey team? How can I? I'm on step 6 before I met this channel.. I have have some content I think would be awesome for the channel..

Beautiful smile in the thumbnail.
It's simple once married it's not my money it's ours and if that's hard to grasp. I'm just going to say it now you have a great awakening. Your debt is hers aswell vice versa pay all debt now! Both income combined no debt more saving manage your money now at a clean slate save up your money get yourself in position to buy a house then think of having kids. Well my 2 cents who am I to tell you what to do.
"Super excited for it. It's awesome." That sounded bland lol.
You will never get married if you waituntil you are financially ready.
You can be approuching finances in a good way or not.
But they are financially ready 😅 they just don't like the thoughts of paying off the debt in full
My condolences.
Can’t wait until I’m debt freeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!
at 2:30 he really doesn't want to pay off his personal debt... silly boy
Yep.
You don*t need a wedding. $60 to the county Justice of the Peace will do. Great savings.
He needs to research divorces and how expensive they are.
Hang in there Nick
Adapt to minimalism....get married and elope lol no fancy wedding
I'm not using all my savings to pay off my debt in a pandemic and a recession. Especially on a low-interest debt like student loans. Sorry Dave ✌🏾
I guess the dude just wanted to go on a nice honeymoon from their savings.
No one wants to see less money in their bank account
In this day and age, his real question should be "am I financially ready for a divorce?"
She’s not giving anything to the wedding 👰🏼 lol
Our goal is to be debt free before we get married in July 2022! A small, inexpensive wedding is the plan!
Hope everything went well!
@Bigboy Games it did! Thank you!
Caller knows they are not financially ready to get married
Well they are from what it sounds caller is not ready to pay his upcoming wife car and his debt.
It’s like Dave said... he’s always gonna have a job... people asking him the same things that he’s been teaching. I’m surprised this guy said he really liked what Dave teaches but couldn’t bring himself to pay his debt off.
He’s not gonna do any of that...smfh.....at least they are savers so they will be OKAY....but why pay all that interest each month for nothing smh
I don't get why is good to pay off a loan with all your savings , that gives you zero room to manouver in case something happens .
Exactly, the idea is to get rid of debt fast, and having minimal savings should help provide motivation to do that. Besides, if draining your savings to pay for something leaves so little remaining that it makes you feel uncomfortable, it usually means you shouldn't have bought it in the first place. That's why Dave told the caller he should just sell the car if he's not wiling to pay it off in full now.
@@chrisstaub5880 Thank you for answering .
I respect that many people follows the strategy you mention and works for them , my point is that , yes , mistakes were made, so let's not get new debt , let's try to pay as fast as possible, but let's not destroy cash reserves that can be crutial in the event of an accident , pandemic , sickness, losing a job or similar.
In case something like that happened to someone like the caller, if he had paid off the debt and something happened, he would be in a terrible situation, but , if something happened and he had all of his cash , he would have a few months to find a new job, or work out something before being in a desperate position.
Hahahaha big savings huh? 60k 😂
If you dont want to have to pay off your spouses debt, get married AFTER there is no debt.
I wish more people would elope or have micro weddings to save money for bigger purchases.
Kids, debt, house, etc.
A women finances and work ethic is very different before and after the wedding
Nope
My thing is, you got yourself into that debt BEFORE we got married, so continue to fill that hole to get yourself out of that debt. Just because we got married does not mean that now I’m your floatation device to get you out of that hole that your buried yourself in. Sounds cruel, but hey, it is what it is.
