I've ran a set of 062 for 21 years now I like them. Was 350 but I changed to 388 on the current build. I ported the heads. Still running flat tappet cam. Runs pretty strong for a street motor feels like 550 560 hp at 7000 rpm. Enough for a s10 at 2700lbs. My brother said its a race engine and I told him it was a decent street motor. Only running a 500 lift cam with 249 259 duration at .050. It's a 50 year old cam . Well by design
Thinking it would have been interesting to see dyno numbers with the 1.94’s and the smaller throats for the affect of velocity. These look promising at the high end for sure. Suspect the manifold will make or break them on the dyno. Interesting set of heads and thanks for sharing.
I’ve got some even more of a cheater head. It’s from Patriot Performance, that was bought out many many years ago by RHS. They’re another Vortec style of casting, that even have the GM number cast into it. I took them to a machine shop to have the steam holes drilled for a 400 I thought I was building. When I went to pick them up, he asked about them. When he found out they were aftermarket, since he was the tech guy at the local roundy round track, he had to ban about 6 people because of the heads. Still never even mounted the heads
Great to see your work on the vortecs Eric! You could always fully port the vortecs and give them the Brzezinski treatment. I don't know if they bead blast them or if they use a different abrasive, but apparently after they are done the finish appears stock. Might lose a few cfm, but would be well worth it.
Interesting to see the results. I got a set of the EQ 200cc. Always wanted to know more about Eq heads. Followed David vizard tips and got good results. 239@400.297@600 E was 191@400, 222@600. 202, 1.6 @80%. Followed his advice on unshrouding the exhaust. On a 383 as well .584 lift on a 110 with 298,306 duration. Also I sand blasted the ports when done, have you ever tried that?
Looking forward to see these dyno results. I have a set of ik180's and I'm not sure how i feel about them. I'm pretty sure the engine lost power across the board from the untouched 461's that were on it to start with. I'd like to see what results you guys get.
Mr. Weingartner. Are you familiar with the RHS ProTorker heads that were discontinued in or around 2014? They have a 350C cast in under the valve cover which leads me to believe they were made in the same foundry as the EQ heads (possibly the same as those in this video). Dual intake bolt pattern. Centre bolt valve covers. 2.02/1.60. Did you not flow these years back? Thoughts?
Those stock numbers are almost as good as 706 LS1 heads. The intake might be better with a smaller intake. Thats a hell of a head to start with. Edit... Eric, i have watched tech guys tear an engine down to a shortblock after a race. The heads came off when there was still steam coming out of the water jackets. This car was also dominant in the qualifying heat, almost a lap up on the field. Watching two guys lift a head off wearing insulated welding gloves to protected themselves from the temp got lots of attention.
I don't know what I'm doing and I thought it looked great. I want to get to port my l98 heads but I ain't got the nerve and I don't know what the best thing to do to it.
Brodix IK 180 vs Vortec - which would you pick for a mild street 355 SBC (~400 HP)? My project currently has stock 1990 heads that will be replaced, so I need to buy either way.
Once you’re finished with the testing are you interested in selling the set? I’ve been looking for a set of these for a while lol thanks in advance 🤙🏼🤙🏼
You’ve probably said before, but have you ever felt like you do about these EQ heads and barely improved on dyno? Or lost power? I realize you can probably tell mostly by flow numbers what will happen if cam and compression are correct.
More impressed with that exhaust port increases that the intake! WOW!
I agree. That's a huge improvement.

Thanks in advanced for the upcoming testing I’ve been wanting to see info on those different cast heads.

Another great video Eric .Thank you for all your effort and time
Those cheater/sleeper heads were rocking after your work!!!! Fantastic results!!!
Very cool project, I actually looked for a set of those heads a few months ago for a 383 my son had, I didn’t realize they were discontinued

They don’t pull the header. They make us do it. 😂
I would be very interested in an analysis of the 427ci SBC.
Eric that's impressive ..Great work
Need to get them on a motor to dyno.
Will be a whi!e but when I get mine together you can ride down and we can do that one day
Correction it's been 24 years bought them for 400 new in 99 when I refreshed the 350.

Thank you for your knowledge and videos USA 🇺🇸 USA 🇺🇸
Are the new aluminum 461 double hump heads solid for porting around the bowl ?
No water in the way type like the old ones.

outstanding.

I wish someone come be able to port the 8.1L head.
I've got a set of 043 bowtie heads I'm going to send to get flowed

Them center bolts where intake bolts up will make a good tech man spot that. Wonder if you could hide that
I actually have a set not in the form you got though
Once you’re finished with the testing are you interested in selling the set? I’ve been looking for a set of these for a while lol thanks in advance 🤙🏼🤙🏼
know what you are going to sell those eq heads for?
Definitely 7/16 studs that's what I have ran all theses years.
Those EQ heads were the deal. Too bad they quit making them.
What do you use to take the shiny away and make it look almost stock again?
Probably a stone
I used to use muriatic acid.
You’ve probably said before, but have you ever felt like you do about these EQ heads and barely improved on dyno? Or lost power? I realize you can probably tell mostly by flow numbers what will happen if cam and compression are correct.
Not yet.
It’s encouraging to know that. I’d hate to spend all that money on a set of heads and get a drop. That’s if the set up is good. Awaiting next video!
hi eric will you be selling those heads after testing?
How come the low lift flow drops when a larger valve is installed? Is it just because of the back cut?
It’s more shrouded with that spark plug boss area.
Is that the Pro Torker head ?
No
want to sell those heads?
Maybe
