I love how every video you just see Lee giving less and less fucks.
F1337 the casual and silly way they do these demos and challenges makes them my favourite duo to watch for guitar related demos. 👌😀
Plus it's got to be so annoying to listen to Rob play the same fucking string bend run through the scale as fast as he can solo every God damn time he picks up a guitar I can't stand it anymore and immediately fast forward but poor Lee is stuck in there with full volume.
He knows how to play, but it doesn't show. It's always more of the same. That's why I love it when Rabea does a demo. That guy knows how to play clean, blues, rock, metal, ... and still sounds very musical in all the genres. And with a strat he's simply a joy to listen to.
***** I love how folks mistake gear reviews as player reviews! By the way where's your CZcams channel showing you playing all these awesome chord progressions and just wowing everyone while doing a soul food review???
raze101 Why do we have to prove ourselves? It won't make Rob play differently. I said Rob knows how to play, but in almost every gear demo, he does the same thing. Have you seen Rabea do demo's on his channel? He goes from amazing beautifull clean playing to djent. What is the point of seeing Rob play sweeps and djent playing in every gear demo?
You guys need to do a blind test: hide five amps: THR, this Vox, a Katana, a TwoRock and a Victory - or some such. Mic them all up the same way, and see which viewers prefer, without knowing if it's tube or transistor. This amp sounds very nice. I just wish there were a direct comparison....
Most viewers are not the best judges. Just as most players are beginners.
Bought this little amp today, absolutely love it! Sounds amazing, perfect size, and (in my opinion) looks great.
Thank you so much for the review. Watched it 6 years ago and still using it
To all my friends on the other side of the pond, Stay safe! Every time I turn on the news it seems like England is always under some kind of fire. God bless and rock the fuck on :)
Thanks man :) I live in the UK and the terror attacks are getting more common; nice to see someone who genuinely cares and isn't taking the piss.
10 times more people die every year from chocking on toast in the UK than in terrorist attacks. Disgusting and angering yes, but not as dramatic as the news want you to believe.
I was minutes away from London Bridge on Saturday night and life goes on for the rest of us.
I see the same thing every time I turn on the television and watch the news for here in the States. It's just we don't call a guy with a gun shooting up his work place and killing 5 people terrorism. We just call it a Monday.
Toasts don't try to deliberately kill you.
I don't get angry at toast. What I'm saying is that the UK is hardly under fire, siege or whatever it is that the news want you to believe to keep you captive. It's not an all out war here.
Thanks for the demo, chaps. I was looking forward to this one.
Sheeeet that first run from Rob on the PRS, been watching this channel for years and still get mind blown every now and then.
Received my Vox Audio air gt a couple weeks ago. Been playing for over 30yrs. The amps and effects are superb, the spring reverb is addictive with the BT OD amp! IMHO
Vox's modeling has come a long way, this sounds very good to me. I owned one of the first two series of Valvetronics.
Rob and Lee are the most entertaining gear reviewers on the tube. Have a lot of time for Andertons always been great service when I've ordered online.
The Yamaha THR takes pedals incredibly well! I use it with drive and boost pedals and they sound great!
I find it really cool though that the Vox has 11 amps (or 23 with the app) vs the THR's 5
again the editing SLAYS ME!! Great review!
I love pedals with the THR, the flat setting takes distortion pedals and amp in a box really well.
Thanks for the video! Just ordered my Adio :))
rob, thank u so much for showing that sexy prs to the cam at around 3:15 lol
Looks aside, I think the Vox has the edge over the Yamaha. I need to do an A-B test to be sure & I do want to throw the Mustang GT40 in there too as the built in Looper & ability to change patches that don't affect the loop are really appealing. Stay tuned for that review! Cheers
I have the Yamaha one too, it's great, I've spent a bit of time with the pc editor making up some nice presets ... for me, the omission of a line out is a bit pants though - it would be really usable for little gigs if it had one - there's a headphone out but it mutes the speakers of course. If this could be switchable I'd be a happy chap. Amp-wise, anyway. Looks like the vox is the same.
Actually, did you cover that? Can the Vox take a separate cab? I think a new small modeling amp shootout deserves a re-visit. The three you mentioned plus I thought Blackstar had a newer lunchbox sized amp with similar features to this.
CaptAnderton you guys should review the pignose amp🤘🤘
What about Blackstar ID:CORE BEAM and how it is in comparison with Yamaha and VOX?
Get the BEAM in the mix for a comparison.
We need more blues videos from the Captain! Cheers, Lee!
Tone-wise, that thing sounds amazing.
I REALLY like the Vox - thanks for the video guys. Probably time to biff the Line 6 spider III for one of these.
Fun and hear that they are starting to sounding better, stopped playing guitar when I bought my first modulation amplifier from Vox (never got any good sound and the fan with a background noise, suck ...).
I think I had a break from the guitar for over 5 years until I heard some friends' gear, now I'm finally getting started again.
Lee, I never, ever comment on vids but, mate, your playing has taken to new heights. Cheers, G
That is one lovely looking PRS Rob is rocking there
Damn Rob, that last solo was awesome !! 🤘
The Holy Diver reference made my day. Rob is killer at guitar 👍
I just bought the Air GT. I use the Bluetooth to stream backing tracks and the overall effect is very good. Great for the street or small rooms.
Just had to say, I love your channel!
Lee's playing on that 3rd setting was awesome! 👌
We
TheAdynator Cheers bro! :-)
Rob Chapman By the way, I did a cover of Aeromancy for my school music exam last month and I got an A+, Dorje brings the good grades 🤘
Omg, that PRS is stunning
Robur custom 24, dont think it's a 10-top though.... Still nice
the mccarty 594 is my perfect guitar
the yamaha picks it up big time when u use it connected to a pc, its my first amp in 15 years, love it amazing technology since my old peavy bandit when i was a teen
Lee, I've wanted Bluetooth on my thr 10 since about two weeks after I got it. I really like it, but you could do so much more with it if it had Bluetooth. That and a stereo effects loop, then it would be close to perfect. the main reasons would be to add wireless accessories like a footswitch to select between the presets, and obviously streaming audio.
I think the declared number of a maximum devices is 6. 4 is about the most you can practically get away with before you start running into problems.
Dear lord that is a killer guitar - congrats Rob.
Great video guys. Looks promising.
Someone’s been practicing! that sounds sweet on the fender my friend, kind of like your soulful playing vs 47 notes every two seconds.
That amp sounds really, really good!!! Wow!!!
this sounds really good.
can't wait for the Yamaha vs. Vox showdown.
Glad you pointed out the lack of bluetooth on the Yamaha. It's already sitting on my desk. I'd like it to be able to pull double duty as a bluetooth speaker.
Hi!
Thanks for all your hard work. The question I’d like to ask (partly connected to last week’s “Small Valve Amp or Big Modelling Amp? Which is Better??” video) is, which is better in this price range for home recording? Six months ago I tried a Yamaha THR10, and immediately fell in love with it. Only to discover, post purchase, it’s really hard to record. Just never sounds anywhere near as good (either dynamic or condenser mics). Some feel this is to do with the fact it is basically producing the sound of a well recorded cab, rather than sounding like an actual cab in the room.
Anyway, there are lots of people out there it seems who, like me, just want to record wee songs at home. And are on a tight budget.
Perhaps some form of A/B/C/etc. testing would help those folk? Focusing on how well they sound recorded? Perhaps a Vox AC4C1-12 vs. THR10 vs Vox Adio vs Blackstar (ID:CORE BEAM?) vs something similar?
Anyway, that’s my request/suggestion. Okay, one of them…
this tiny vox ampy is standing on a bigy foxy ac30 ampy wonderfully
a big amp resonates a lot- without connectdirectly !
fine tone here and there! rockn rolly!
Wow that sounds incredible.
Thanks for the straight up re: watts. I agree
Once Rob help up that first PRS he was holding my jaw nearly hit the floor, might just be the best looking finish I've ever seen on a guitar, just stunning!
MB215
Tastes differ. Ugly to me.
really love the cap's tone on the strat 4:57 ..awesome... Rob's tone is awesome too, but that strat tone sounds the way a strat was meant to sound.
Lovin the gt40. Took a lilbit but really feeling it now. Bandmaster and as Stan lee would say, Excelsior! Oh, maybe a gt40, marshal code 25, vox, and thr shootout? Pete and the pedal guy or Rabea?
Lee doesn't give a shit in the best way. It's like he's just some bloke i met in the pub 4 years ago and i've been watching play guitar since. It'd be nice to meet him one day.
The comment The Captain brought up about using pedals in a modeling amp has me intrigued. Are modeling or solid state amps good for using with pedals? I've always had a pedal or two with my Fender Deluxe 90 (solid state) and it's sounded good, but is it ideal?
It looks pretty good. I'm a Vox junkie, so it will eventually be in my arsenal one day.
Love your work Guys...………………..Class...
That "wide stereo" thing is an enhancement deal using phase shifts, as many small countertop CD/radios have used forever; it can be turned off in the Yamaha, otherwise apparently can mess with headphone/as line out audio. I also don't get testing a basic small unit with integrated setting options by bypassing to obfuscate using extra pedal stuff. What are we hearing, the unit or the pedal?
Hey Rob- some beautiful emotional lead work here...I think maybe the vox inspired you.
Off with their heads! The lot of them!!! 🎸🎼💯🤡 so glad i found you guys! You're the best since Benny Hill!!!
I also own a THR 10 (a THR 10X in fact). In fact, it's the only amp I have in my workshop. In regard to using a pedal with a THR, I actuallu use a Maxon OD808 as a clean boost in front and though it doesn't add much to the drive, it adds loads more sustain (I only ever use my Maxon as a clean boost with 0 gain)...
gosh I just love that rug.
Hey Lee, the looper “Loop Groove” from Moore works well with my Yamaha THR10. Cheers!
I have been eyeballing that cool looking jazz bass in the background of every video
Didn't know Louis Vuitton were making amplifiers 😂 jokes, sounds fantastic though
Luke Mcfarlane
Luke Mcfarlane
I just got done building a 1x12 cab (still waiting in some parts actually) and while browsing tolex options, no kidding, I seen a Louie Vuitton wrapped 4x12. The white background with the rainbow colored "LV" logos all over. Actually didn't look too bad lol
Ryan Wilson I saw a LV Tele on Jared Dines' Instagram 😂😂
Luke Mcfarlane that lv tele is post malone's
kim paolo salgado yeah I couldn't relieve the name, I just knew it wasn't Jareds
kim paolo salgado post malone? the shit rapper?
I am not a musician but I would like to play I've been watching all the small amp comparisons and now I don't know! I thought I wanted a Roland then the Yamaha but that goddamn Vox sounds pretty good and I actually like the way it looks...! ( I may be the only one) But you messed me up with the Mustang GT40 with a built-in Looper cuz I want a Looper I hope I can just put a pedal on the Vox and it won't cost too much I enjoyed watching you guys you've helped me tremendously from across the pond in California thank you...
Hey hey great demo! I want to ask you can I use effect pedals with this amp, like the wah pedal, TS9 or a the 12 String Mosaic Pedal. How does it act with pedals?
I have that Yamaha and virtually never get it up to full volume, perfect for practice at home, sounds amazing and very loud
Yes it does
Lee, your playing has improved so much. Bully.
I was on the fence until I heard the Dual Rectifier tone, which was crazy flubby. Also - I'm in love with that blue PRS. If I didn't have to sell organs to afford one, I'd get it.
Sounds incredible
The best bit of this is the Subliminal Edit at 13 min 07 secs.
Spot on! :-)
This may sound silly, but what I would really like would be a THR10 with an effects loop.
I MUST HAVE A CHAPMAN GUITAR 🎸 chapman do you guys ever plan or going to tour u.s I would love to see you guys live
that seems really cool - i have no need for it but if i were starting out all over again i'd get one of these for home and a 50/100 watt "real" amp for gigging
Sounds great. When will you review the Vox MV50 heads (all 3 of them) I use the newish AV series as a practice amp, really great stuff nowadays from Vox.
Nice tones
Great review, have you considered doing a review on the new Vox mv 50 Series
The editing was fucking hilarious on this video, Rory (i think is his name) done a good job as usual
Sounds pretty darn good on a mic!
Looks great!
The Vox sounds good. Just ordered one from Andertons.
I would like to see fx loop in those little modelling amps.
I have the Boss Katana 50 watt . For power for gigging , and the fantastic plethora of Boss effects . I purchased the Yamaha THR-X as a practice amp and sometimes use it as a Preamp through the Katana as my cab . The tones you can dial in are to many to count. If your a Metal , Thrash , Shred person I think its a must have . I have 34+ plus yrs. as a Gigging Guitarist and over a decade of session work . Both amp's compliment each other and wont hurt your wallet . The Vox they are testing does have some cool features but you wont miss them imho ??
I just discovered your videos and really enjoy them. I have a question about the Vox amp. It looks like the Vox has a USB type B connection on the back? Would I be able to use a Line 6 Relay G10 on this? My understanding is that the receiver plugs into the USB port on the amp for power. It uses a micro USB connection. I've never seen a usb type B to micro USB cable.
Hey Lee! Does it have the tweeters missing from my THR10? It doesn't make a difference playing guitar but with backing tracks or music the lack of high frequencies really make the Yamaha sound cheap. Cheers
Is it possible to make a comparison between this Vox and the Yamaha THR 30 mkii wireless?
I like your idea for a shoot out but why not go for 3 and add in the Amplifi 30?
That deep red PRS used on that guitar is a great color.
Captain's playing from 12.50. I'd love to play like that. seems so simple. love it
Craig Miller just some pentatonic licks, I believe he's playing E minor pentatonic
jake schleifer Thanks Jake. I'm learning and this stuff sounds great but accessible to someone like myself
Rob and the Captain; did you know that a Danish bloke invented Bluetooth technology? He named it after King Bluetooth who was King of Denmark and Norway hundreds of years ago. Love your Channel!
my Yamaha thr-5a fell from over four feet onto a bare wooden floor, did a forward roll.....
never even bent a dial, excellent engineering.
I believe it was the last time i used the trampoline as a Doppler reverb.......
Is that a Chuck Norris signature? 😂
@@therockchannel613 no that model throws a gun away before every fight.
Lee is playing cooler and more varying stuff every video!
Vox was never really on my radar until I played a Vt20x the other day for a couple hours. It has a preamp tube that seems like it makes a difference. Sounded way better than my Blackstar id20tvp. I'm a huge Blackstar fan, so I hate to say I'm switching it for the Vox. I did not want to like the Vox, but I did.
Rob extremely beautiful slow sad song in the opening.
4:57
Holy Diver is my go to riff for testing gear too.
WHY YOU'D WANT TO USE PEDALS WITH THE ADIO OR THR? :) - Hi guys! Great video! One of the reasons you might want to put pedals in front of it, would be in a recording scenario. I use the THR all the time to record, just with the USB out, straight into Logic. Cool onboard sounds, but sometimes you want some different sound. But the guitar sound part of the THR doesn't take pedals nicely, at all. The bass patch though, does (weirdly enough) work very nicely :)
How about a video of the new PRS CE24 LTD Satin Nitro... Perhaps we could see a few colours?
Hey Rob, I recieved a Washburn Solar-160. I have rust on five of my frets. The G string has rust or corrosion where it sits in the nut. As well when bending on the g,b, an e string you can hear creaking of the string. I have the guitar tuned down to standard D. An encounter quite a bit of fret buzz on the higher registry of the fretboard. How can I address these issues?
I have owned the THR10X since 2013 I think. I tried out the Vox at GC. It really didnt sound good to my ears. I use the Yamaha editor getting patches online. I have Blackstar Fly 3 and Katana 50 too. IMO all better than the vox?
Just came across this video and have the VOX. If you have some record of them, what were the settings you saved for your presets?
lets not beat around the
i was gonna say i prefer the yami
but after that demo lets be honest these 2 amps have got to be some of the finest tones on the planet for modelling amps
absolutely amazing sound
glad i caught an eye on them
you just gotta have that sound
My wishlist (I own a THR10):
- Looper needs an effects loop. If you want a mellow background sound, then an overdriven lead in your looping... Tough luck. Because the looper has to go in the front end signal path, you can't get it to loop the wet signal, then change the settings.
- Related: if you've got a, say, Boss-RC30, with microphone input -- you have to use a clean effects chain since the vocal gets the same effect as the guitar. If the looper were via separate send/receive then it becomes much more useful.
- No output suitable for FOH. I know it's a practice amp, but if you wanted to use it just for its really nice amp simulation, you can't.
- Power supply issues cause noise. I get noise from mine as soon as I plug it into anything else that's got an earth.
- Cut out on low battery. If you play loud on battery some sort of automatic cut-out turns the amp off and it needs a switch on and off to bring it back. That means no nice linear degredation on failing batteries -- if they're not brand new you can't trust it to stay on after an hour or so of playing.
- Bluetooth input (as Cap says)
- Not enough headroom on input (as Cap says), they've obviously pushed the digital chain right to the limit on dynamic range. That means if you put signal + looped signal into it, it's too much and distorts the input -- but not in a nice analogue amp way, in an overflowing digital value way -- farty and horrible.
All that being said, I love my THR, and it doesn't look like this Vox fixes enough of the above to tempt me (and it's nowhere near as pretty so the wife might not let it in the living room).
My big thing is the Effects Loop for Looping purposes just as you mentioned. Thought it since day 1 of owning the THR10. If this was available in the VOX then I would change but seeing it isn't... not enough of a reason to purchase this one. Would be an option if I didn't have a practice amp of this size though. May choose this over the Yamaha for Bluetooth purposes.
Your wife wouldn't like an amp that looks like grandma's handbag?
That's odd ; )
totally agree why do these things not have fx loops or loopers its a no brainer
As well as an FX loop, an aux stereo input for connection to i-phone, laptop, 2nd giutar or mini-key board, drum machine, mic etc. A clean 50W output amp(s) would easily handle multi-inputs.
I have a Blackstar Beam and it's awesome.
It sounds fantastic IMO
12:47 May I have seconds please? That was some mighty tasty playing there Capt!
jamvox is a modeling/fx piece of software - if it has a usb+ jambox like the little vox USB dongelie that I have it is pretty cool because it is a straight usb audio out that you can use with the amp modeling to record in whatever you want
It may be time to do an updated version of this video comparing the Vox Adio Air GT to the Yamaha THR30IIW.
I only wish my THR had a preamp out. You spend so much time getting that perfect present, then you can't use it to gig.
I used to use my Pignose as a harp mic preamp to have a portable "my" sound. Will look for a hack, but previous attempts sounded complicated and questionable. No mention of the Vox "amp out"?
