Here after latest Andertons "Affordable Guitar Amp Blindfold Shootout" !
LMAOOO same, rob convinced me to buy this one
I know that this is an older video, but I just found one of these used in a guitar shop and this video showed me what I needed and what I wanted to know about it. Walked out with it and love it. Thanks for all the videos that you put up. They are extremely helpful.
Reasons to come to Ireland:
1). Leprechauns
2). Dorje charted here.
3). We use the 3 pin plug.
+Andy Buck Sounds appealing.
Is one pin a ground prong?
+tMattLZ yes
+Andy Buck 4). U2
5). Thin Lizzy
+Andy Buck 6).Rory Gallagher.
7).Gary Moore.
I'm actually really impressed with this little box of win! It sounds really convincing and even when it doesn't, the sounds it produces are very useable. I would have loved something like this when i started out. Heck, I'd love one now!
Looking forward to the "Amps that sound like amps next to the amps that they are" video!
bought a vt20x couple weeks ago. its amazing , even better than what i expected.sounds so good and with tone room you can use even more pedals and amp models
You guys are back to sounding great. The new room is finally there. Thank you and keep them coming.
I always appreciate how well defined the sound is on your demos. I run the sound through my home PA system and I really get a good feel for the tone of each amp or guitar your showcasing. Hat's off to your sound techs.
I have a Vox VT15 practice amp with the VFS5 footswitch and I really like its versatility. It sounds pretty good miked into the system.
do not shut up lee! Love all your comments on gear, I think these comments are what diferentiate your reviews from the other review. Keep up the good your. Thank you guys
I have the previous VT40 as my second amp and I have to say I'm liking the way VOX have gone with this one. All the useless sounds gone, simplified, more rational pedal setup and the possibility to make your own sounds if you want to. There wasn't a single tone I didn't like on this video, nice! Wouldn't mind updating the old VT40. :-)
I have to say this is one of the best videos You've put out in ages! Hilariously funny and felt a little bit like top gear, in terms of its entertainment! and bringing back some of the old chapman licks! Yes!
Excellent video again guys, really liking the banter between you at the end. You should definitely do more videos with banter in them for sure!
Before Innerspace there was Fantastic Voyage (1966). Saw it premiere on TV. I'm also old enough to remember coal fired guitar amps.
This amp is wonderful. The best practice amp for a really low price. I had my "default" amp that came with my first guitar and sounded terrible. I actually thought I sucked at guitar. But after a couple years I boufht this one and oh boy I am actually good and my same 5 year old guitar sounds like heaven now
OI JOSUKE
Love the moment when the roadtrip switch is flicked on!
Just picked up the 20W. The Orange channel alone is worth the price of admission!
I bought one of the 20 watt ones for our recording studio and, in the mix, the clients LOVE the sound and flexibility. We also have the Blackstar modeler and a Kemper to cover all the bases. On a recording, it's REALLY hard to find fault with these little amps.
For bedroom amp only... would you go for the 20 or 40? Do you miss bass in the 20?
actually i find one. i don't know did u record with vt+ or not. but with vt+ u can get the sound of Cry for you (andy timmons) exactly. but with VTX when u turn the gain up from 9 o'clock to right, the sound lose the distortion. i don't know why and i don't know how to fix the problem. anyone here experience this???
Truly great sounding amps on a budget... some time ago I went to my local store to try some tele's and I asked if he had a roland cube 30 watt. He didn't but told me he had something simular but better... he was not wrong! Sounded great and for like 200 euros or something, i dont remember
OMG Captain's strat tone right from the get go. SO good!
Rob, your playing has gotten so much better! Really tasty playing in this video :)
They definitely sold me on this amp..I fucking love this channel the gear reviews are detailed and comprehensive, and the humor and chemistry between these two is pretty much unparalleled except by maybe Tim and Eric, speaking of which the little edits these guys do really reminds me of the spirit and humor of Tim and Eric. Amazing channel, best on youtube for music.
Agree! Just discovered all these guys online (Andertons) from America looking for amp reviews about a week or so ago.... been completely obsessed and fully entertained by them all so far, the best I've ever seen! Cheers!
Loving these videos from across the pond in Chicago!!!
Facts
i like the idea of a modeling amp shoot off. all of them pretending to be a fender with a real fender. all being a vox with a real vox there, etc. that would make for a great video. or even forget the real amp, and just go for "do you like the fender, vox, orange (etc) tone of modeling amp 1, 2, 3..." and pick your overall favourite amp.
+ThroughFallenEyes i love this idea! run the Vox modeling amps against the Yamaha THR and a Blackstar ID with the real deals. it would be hilarious if someone else did a better modeled Vox than Vox does in its models.
They actually did something like this not too long ago in the past couple of months, they used a Vox, an Orange crush, and a third amp I can't remember.
+ThroughFallenEyes Oh, yes please !
If you're talking modeling amps, u gotta include the fender mustangs III , it's great!
Do it! .. Do it! .. Do it!
I wasn't expecting much before you started playing (because of the modelling concept...it grew small in my heart), but when rob started playing the deluxe, man it sounded amazing...*still watching the rest of the video*
The amp is just gorgeous. The double padel is just so vintage style
I still can't get used to new room. something about the bricks and tight space
+Sebastian Kisiel The secret is.... there are no bricks...
+Rob Chapman bring back the casting couches
Rob Chapman i think that's the problem
+Sebastian Kisiel The wall and the generic junk in the background makes it look like they are filming it in an IKEA store or something.
+Sebastian Kisiel Maybe we should ask the horse, see how it responds to the question
00:38 I don't think so, it is Latin.
08:32 is why I bought this amp.
Other amps are menu driven but this little Vox is hands on.
This is now my favourite vid of yours. Thanks for entertaining me for fucking years and I learned more about gear on your channel than anywhere :P
so happy i discovered this. can't wait til it comes.
I love it that most of the modeling amp companies have started putting tubes into their amps so that they can get that nice warm tube sound along with the versatility of modeling.
Reallt makes a difference..
Hi, I think that could be very helpful to see video comparing Vox VTX and Marshall CODE. Thx for your very useful, helpful and funny video materials. Greetings from Poland !
Krzysztof Kaluta the Vox VT40X costs less than the Code 50 and sounds a lot better to. The Code series is just a gimmick
When you started playing One vision by Queen i was checking the amp on amazon and literally thought i was hearing Brian´s actual tone. Amazing...
Love the set up of the effects. Brilliant.
30:29 That so convinced me to buy the amp
2 adults spending some time doing something besides suffering. Like a breath of fresh air.
when rob starts playing white dove, you know he must like the tone :D
Magnificent demo mates. I have one on pre order......... Loved the out-take with the patisserie
As Mum would have said (from Manchester): "A bit of alright, that."
Vox is Latin for 'voice', actually! :)
+Jonathan Oakey I thought most southern & western European languages came from Latin.... but hey, thats for another show more high brow than ours!!
+CaptAnderton A quick trek around Google translate shows that "Voice" in Spanish and Portuguese is 'voz'; French is 'voix'; Italian and Romanian are 'voce'. Indeed, these are all Romance languages, coming from Latin (hence the "Roman" bit in "Romance"). And, of course, "voice" in English comes from the same root. There's also a lot of Greek in English, and Greek for voice is "phone".
+CaptAnderton great put down captn. 😎😎
+Jonathan Oakey cheers! The morale of this story is never believe what a Monkeylord tells you ;)
+Jonathan Oakey And then there's german, in which "voice" means "Stimme". Damnit xD
PLEASE DO THAT VIDEO IDEA!!! I've been thinking about a video like that forever, and I love the blindfolded series. Only problem would be getting ahold of that Dumble to compare it to ;) keep on rockin guys, love your videos.
Wasn't especially excited about this until it got to some of those Strat tones - really quite pleasing.
i just ordered one of these... im never gonna get anything done around the house now :P
Lol, I'm getting one also, and will also not get much of anything done either, except for lot's of inspired 🎸playing!! Woohoo! 👀
Innerspace is the movie, and time bandits was the best.
Fantastic Voyage from the sixties is the movie he was talking about
Yes we use a three pin plug in Ireland, and in all seriousness you should definitely take a trip here. The music scene in Dublin is amazing, around the Temple Bar and city centre area. Places like the Wicklow mountains, the Burren and Cliffs of Moher in county Kerry and Clare are just stunning, you could take some beautiful songwriting inspiration Rob!
Watched this video four years ago and decided that I want this amp. Four years later, I finally got one. Thanks Chappers and Captain
hi, so how´s it working out for you after 9 months of testing? i´ve been thinking on buying it too.
Thanks in advance.
@@ignaciociccarelli1127 Hello there! I'm super happy with the amp. For my first amp it's really versatile and good-sounding. The only issue i've had was with the Vox Tone Room-app, i couldn't use my own setups after i saved them. But that was a software issue, not an issue with the amp itself. So all in all, i'd definitely recommend buying one.
"Innerspace," I believe, was the name of that movie.
I wonder if Dumble Amps will ever release a DAW.. .
It would be a ...
Mad rush of nostalgia watching you lads nosh down pastries, just like the early days of Chappers and Lee.
I’ve got an older version of this little 1-10” ValveTronics combo. It’s really good but a bit small sounding with the 10 inch speaker. But when I line out to an older 1-12” combo, it’s all there! I’m so happy I have this amp.
Inner Space is the film
+Ian Wright Thats the one - cheers!!
Got that on VHS somewhere. Wicked film
+CaptAnderton what's the stools you sit on while reviewing please?
+Thomas Nutter A Tama drum stool!
+Ian Wright Or "Fantastic Voyage", the sight of Raquel Welch in a rubber suit was a light bulb moment I shall never forget, Oooo Errrrr!!
is it just me or have these here modelling amps got way better than they used to be??
+SamBrev absoultely im totally impressed by the sound
+SamBrev That vox sounds a shitload better than my Line6 spider 3 and Flextone III. It sounds a lot better than the previous valvetronix too.
I was only Interested in to tube amps until I saw this
Technically this is hybrid
Solid State and Modeling Amps are incredible especially Solid State Amps have been for the past 25 year's..i used nothing but tube Amps up until 2009 i bought a Marshall MG 100FX 2X12 Stock Celestion Speakers..and i haven't looked back since..
I love this amp, I can’t believe how good it is
That Les Paul sounds fantastic, really makes the amp shine
I have a problem with lava lamps: if one is in front of me I can't help staring at it and my brain goes standby.
Can you please remove it? And what was the video about?
😎
I smoked some of the best dope I'd ever had in my life in Ireland. Have a good trip!
All the weed that come sto Ireland comes from that states..
Much better video than a lot of these in my opinion. Greater variety in the styles of play. Like that a lot
Great review! This amp has made my short list to purchase! Oh, and the movie?? Fantastic Voyage! And so glad Rob cut his hair. WMCWD
28 minutes & 40 seconds - this is where the magic happens..... ha ha ;)
+CaptAnderton I was waiting for your sandwhich to fall on your Stratocaster, big sigh of relief
+CaptAnderton Which wood do you prefer for a strat fretboard: maple or rosewood? Also, gotta love when you bring the funk on! :)
+CaptAnderton does the 100w model come with a pedal to switch on/off the effects and stuff like that? If not what can one get to do that? Cheers :)
+CaptAnderton I liked the sound of the "All British" rain in the background of the "pain oh chocolate" eating.
+CaptAnderton We need a podcast from you guys. Just talking about whatever. It'll be awesome.
the film is INNERSPACE..Great film...Tidy mun
I have no idea what it sounds like in the room, but mic'd up, almost every amp model sounds great... Much better than all the other modelling amps featured by Chapman.
Nice playing, too! Lots of variety here.
I love my Vox AD30VT. I had several amps over the years. A Fender, a Marshall, a Crate, Vox, and Vox battery models. I love the Vox sound being a Beatle fan since the late 60's. I have two amps left and one of them is the the Vox AD30VT after 17 years or so. And the other is the Boss Katana Mini. Vox makes good amplifiers. i have not tried the new Vox's yet.
I just stole one of these beauties on eBay. First off... That 8" speaker is in way over its' magnet (its' head). The amp is capable of much more than that dinky little speaker can handle. I'll be using a trick I found on CZcams. You can remove the back, disconnect the speaker and attach an output jack. You then plug in a speaker cable to use the amp to drive a Marshall 4x12. The output is 5 ohms and the cab is 8 ohms - you'll lose a bit of power but this amp has plenty to spare. Secondly... The onboard FX are okay but won't challenge my huge of array of MXR pedals. I personally prefer the Fender Deluxe Reverb model (Setting #1). I then blast the sh!t out of it with an MXR Prime Distortion pedal. This amp is a great deal for the money. The Vox AC30 (normal channel) model is magnificent. I have a Vox AC15 and the sound coming from the VT20X is pretty darn close. For under $200 you won't find a better deal on a modeling amp.
Awesome, I'm buying one!!! Waa either this (Vox), or a Marshall FXG. I'm very glad I watched this video. 🎸
9:53 - WAR PI- Oh, nevermind :'(
Thank you very much for paying attention to the whole copyright thing. Really impressed with the dedication for the viewers!
I looked up this VOX VTX review from Andertos because these guys cut though the shine and demonstrate product in the best light. The last amp I bought was a VTX that replaced my VOX AD15VY-XL which died of of a drinking problem. I fount the VTX more complicated than my AD15. I want to thank Andertons guys for their review that helped understand the VTX.
lol I've watched this video a few times and just noticed the Star Trek reference hahaha
Rob, maybe you should use some more mid range guitars to show what cheap guitars sound like
Its a squire, how much more budget can you get?
Absolutely hilarious, the last bit, pyjamas. Love the caps chat, like what, korma? Lol.
I really love my Valvetronix amp (bought from Andertons ;) ). Been happy with it since day one, love the new model, looks great.
I was constipated, then I heard this amp. I'm fine now.
the movie was called fantastic voyage
Inner Space*
I played one of these a few days ago, mega mega impressed
Would love to see a British amps round up, of small/cheap to big/expensive. Especially would love to hear both of your opinions on the Vox VR series. Like practise amp, mid price solid state/low end valve, and the big ones of companies (Marshall, Orange, Vox, Blackstar, the big names etc) would be super cool!
Also would love to see a solid state focused episode! (Would love to see Rob, or Bea try out a Randall, even though Andertons don't stock them!)
being an Indian that last bit conversation between captain and chappers is the funniest thing ever😂😂😂 and a lot of words in English are actually from Sanskrit:') and I'm surprised by chappers knowledge!!! cheers chappers:')
i'm trying to decide between the Vox vtx or marshall code- anyone tried both?
anyone? also the fender mustang iv.
Ryndan Riley the vtx blows them out of the water. but if you're not looking for the biggest versatility ever you may prefer the AV séries.
they actually sound quite excellent but may not sound exactly like the real thing just check ou some more demos
The original 'Blue' series Vox Valvetronix were great amps in their day, well ahead of their time, full featured, and designed as gigging amps. But construction and design was expensive. The 2x12 AD120VT stereo combo, was designed specifically for gigging, originally sold for around £900 and that was in 2001, and the later AD120VTX retailed at around £1100 in 2003 (closed back, marine grade birch ply cab & VTX 'Neodog' speakers that were an 80w variant of the Celestion G12 Century Vintage 'Neodymium' & that retail today at £130 each!) These amps weighed 58lbs so not light (although the 1x12 60w version was lighter)!
The market has changed, and the biggest customer target today are bedroom, & small club players with only modest sums to spend. Emphasis now is on way cheaper build costs, compact low weight design, and better quality amp models and FX. In many ways, modelling amps have become somewhat 'disposable' much in the same way TV's have changed, with ever advancing technology. You can buy a VT100X for around £300 - compare that to an AD120VTX at £1100 in 2003! A VT20X is under £150 - so at that price you can comfortably discard it when a newer version comes out, and if it breaks down in a few years (just like modern TV's) its often cheaper to go out & buy the latest version than get the old repaired!
So, mass market is now the name of the game. Modern modelling amps are packed with innovation but unlike tube amps, aren't designed to have the same longevity and will devalue quickly. By longevity I mean 'shelf life' ie they are 'of the moment' until the next generation comes round. But all the Valvetronix variants sound pretty good, are well made within their budgetry restrictions, are pretty reliable, and remain very popular. These amps simply wouldn't continue unless these amps were well received by customers, and with internet forums and youtube videos, manufacturers have to design & sell good products because if they design a dud, it will be all over the internet in, literally, minutes!
So, manufacturers like Vox, Marshall, Fender & Line 6 do superbly well to keep bringing out innovative products - and because customer expectation is now so high, it's an ever increasing challenge for them to deliver what customers want at a price they can afford, and still make a realistic profit.
I've had both -still have the Vox vt40-I really liked the Marshall iPhone app-but besides that I think the Vox blows the code away
Pajamas! Love the idea of component modelling. It would be nice to see a comparison of the latest generation of the modelling amps, such as the Roland Blues Cube and Line 6 Helix (though it's not an amp, but does use component modelling).
You guys rock. So impressed with your review, that I bought the amp before I saw the video. :)
8:54 playing begins
"Inner Space"
The old theme! Nice! My favorite. You should play it more often :- )
Another great video guys, thank you. I live just outside of Belfast and would love to see you guys come over here and do some workshops / demos / gigs. Plenty of independent music shops here who might be interested in hosting and even stocking Chapman guitars too. The whole island is rife with music fans and players covering all genres so a mini version of your USA tour would be a lot of fun for you I have no doubt. As far as I know there is not a single Chapman dealer on the island so there must be an opportunity to get the guitars in people's hands. Look. It's Ireland. I don't actually think you need convincing. You want to do it. Plus, all your electronicary will work with our plug sockets - the whole island is on the uk standard. Guinness, craft ales, great grub, top pubs and clubs, nice people, world class scenery and enough rock fans to keep you taking all bloody night. I'll happily help with some local fixing if you want to look into this more. Keep up the good work.
Actually you can do covers all day long. Germany won't mind unless you include an original studio recording or any recording that is actually being sold in your videos.
+Poockiy No unfortunately not with a channel like mine... I've already had over 50 videos restricted due to playing even just 30 seconds of a cover.
+Rob Chapman I, for one, am thankful that you make the effort so we can see your videos in gemany. There is nothing more annoying in CZcams than the message "this video is not available in your country".
+Doodles Hi dude, yeah I think the difference is in the number of subs... I'm very "On the radar" ;-)
+fischer “Skinn0r” rulzz No problem dude, I have friends all over the world - don't want people to miss out ;-)
+Rob Chapman I think the actual problem is that in german law doing reviews like you do in association with a retailer like Andertons is seen as activly trying so sell gear, so it falls under the commercial laws in germany and you would have to pay for any content that you use and don't own, like songs. Make of that what you want, I think it's ridiculus since it kind of provides free advertisement for Bands/Songs, but what do I know.
Britain is in Europe...?
GREAT VIDEO, I have the older one, will now be getting probably the VTX40
Neil said it best," Words between the lines of age" Great review gentlemen. I have the prior version of this amp and I kinda like it. The "New" voicings are great sounding and I think improved compared to the older version. I added a speaker out mode to run a different cab bypassing the on board speaker so if want to run an open back or something else you can, great mod for these amps.
edgeofeternity101 do you have any link for this mod? I'd be interested to check it out
I'm 97.45% sure Lee is a robot.
I am 64.2% sure I'm not.
+CaptAnderton but I,m 93.78% the Captain is powered by groove tubes
The fact that you achieved such a specific percentage of suspicion makes me 100% certain that you're a robot too
+CaptAnderton All kidding aside I,m 100% sure your playing is awesome very skilled. Hopefully I can play as good as you someday. Thanks from Canada
Well captain is one, a shinny one named C3PO hahahahaha....so he must be...
24:37 Hahahaha
Yes...Bleed the Light(Maplewood Remaster),I listen to that a few times a week! Great tune! When I think of Rob,that song comes to mind. The amps not bad either, but I would like to hear it through more speakers, just for the hell of it!
Tried out the 40w during lunch today. Very nice. The clean channel has a proper British feel that sounds great with a subtle reverb. Sounds best with humbucker pickups.
One small criticism, these are low budget amps that are really designed for your average home player who will more than likely have a Squier or an Epiphone, surely it would be better and more in touch with the real world if you demo'd amps in this sort of price bracket on more modestly priced guitars?
luvstellauk I have a Squier and an Epiphone and guess what?..... Yep, this amp.
Ps. I'm a complete home player :)
@ dave djs As another squier user on a budget, would you be ABLE to use this amp with drums in the room?
luvstellauk Well I use my supro Martinique with this amp it sounds great.
luvstellauk very good point. I do have very good guitars thou but from recently my amp of choice is VT100X. However I do have few young colleagues that have Squiers and Epiphones and they are looking to get this VT40X like on this review.
gonna get an american pro tele in a few months and i have this amp, dont wanna waste a shit ton on pedals
Obligatory "First comment"
+maxisbac Obligatory complaint about how "first" comments are stupid
+ImAFutureGuitarHero obligatory complaint about how complaining about first comments is annoying
+ImAFutureGuitarHero Ironic complaint about how complaining comments are the worst kind of comment
Typically "First" comments are deleted somehow...
My friend and I took a road trip to Ireland a while back, inspired by an Amy Winehouse doc, she played in Dingle, St James's church, we travelled from Dublin, all the way to that church in Dingle following the coast. Here are reasons to visit,
1. the South is breathtakingly, stunningly beautiful.
2. we were so well looked after I was sincerely emotionally overpowered by it all.
3. walk into a pub with guitar cases, they will supply you with alcohol, ask you to play, stay open until 3 (maybe they do that anyway) and thoroughly enjoy your company!
4. a Lady in Dingle who ran a little cafe, drove for 3 hours, to return a single plectrum to us, based only on the info that we were staying in a van and in a car park. She also fed us the most amazing home made chowder out of pure kindness.
5. Fresh sping water is unbelievable, and free.
6. The local folk music is absolutely gorgeous and will bring grown men to tears.
7. Guinness really is really good
8. Food is.. Oh. Sorry.
9. The generosity is phenomenal and seemingly limitless.
10. I have stories from that trip that I still think of with extreme fondness and tell from time to time.
Honestly Chappers, you and the Cap'n should do it! You're both gregarious and charming, you'll have a wonderful time over there. :)
An "Amps that sound like Amps next to the Amps that they are" vid sounds perfect! DO IT!
Inner space.... just saying
who would play a 2800$ guitar with a 180$ amp?
Mauricio Carreno Haha my proportions are messed up.
Mauricio Carreno give me a $2,800 guitar and I'll tell you 😜
Mauricio Carreno Rob Chappers Chapman would!
This guy, because the amp sounds great mr butthurt purist from 4 years ago.
That practice amp modelling video idea is superb! Could you for instance do a Roland Cube, Vox VTX, Fender Mustang, Blackstar ID:Core, Line 6 Spider, ... shoot-out video in which you compare their modeling of Fender-type, Vox-style and Marshall-type amps? Maybe even compare those models to an actual Fender Blackface, Vox AC-30, Marshall Plexi, 5150 & Rectifier? I suppose it would be a lot of work, but the results could also be rather epic!
fair play that's the best sounding modeller I've heard
The amps that sound like amps trying to sound like amps would be a sick vid :D Please do it!!!!
I've been watching this show so much, I'm starting to learn the beginning riff of the show intro. I've only just discoverd the show less than a week ago! lolz
I may have to acquire one these amps, I had one of the original VT when they first came out and loved it.
Cpt picking teq has improved quite a bit. sounds great, fantastic blues
