Region inhabited since 3000 BCE an advanced bronze edge culture called Spalli culture. Around 800 BCE a new culture called Sogdians flourished in city-states along the Saravshan valley, by this time three small fortified settlements at the place of present day Bukhara had been built enclosed by a wall thus Bukhara has Born.

Captured by Arab forces in 709 . It was the capital of the Samanid dynasty in the 9th and 10th centuries. Later it was seized by the Qarakhanids before falling to Gengis Khan in 1220 and to Amir Timur “Tamerlane” in 1370.
In 1506 Bukhara was conquered by Uzbeks Shaybanids who from the 16 Century made it the capital of their state, which became known as the Khanate of bukhara.

Bukhara was a trade and crafts centre along the famous silk road.
