My respect and admiration for George Braly grows every time I hear him discuss his G100UL product and everything he went through to get here. This country was built by men with this kind of vision, intelligence, toughness and determination.

Thank you for your noble fight! I'm indebted to your perseverance! I live in the bad side of San Jose, next to Reid-Hillview GA Airport. It's densely populated here but hobby flying is openly valued more than our lives. You're really doing live saving work. I'm so grateful

Get real. It's the same all over. We all want lead gone. You think people in Palo Alto are cool with leaded fuel?

I have purchased the STC, and am eagerly awaiting buying my first tank. What was the article that George recommended at 45:05?
One thing I'd love to know: if there's this agreement that as soon as a lower-lead fuel is "commercially available", that everybody in CA has to stop selling 100LL, what is GAMI's level of preparedness to immediately start selling fuel to every fueling provider in CA?

The engine choice in the experimental I'm building prefers unleaded fuel so I'm really excited to see my home airport on that map of CA and Atlantic Aviation wanting to be the first FBO to offer it.

Using unleaded gas will again show trouble for older engines. Back in the 70s when they took the lead out of the gasoline a lot of older muscle cars had major problems with their intake and exhaust valves. Evidently the lead needed to coat the metal to protect it. Advancements in design have led to the engines being able to tolerate unleaded gasoline as they do ethanol. Diesel engines also suffered the same fate when they took the sulfur out which was a lubricant for the engine. Older aircraft engines will suffer the same fate and have upper cylinder issues once you take the lead out if no other alternative additive is put in service. As far as octane goes 93 unleaded is fine and even in some of the Midwestern state you get 91 ethanol free that is $.60-$.80 more than Premium. Currently in my location it is going for four plus dollar a gallon. Still cheaper than 100LL. They need to rethink the piston engine and design it for 87 unlead with water cooling and tighter tolerances. This will make for a more efficient engine and a lot longer lasting one too. As I recall, they did away with the two cycle engine on RM style motorcycles, and put small cooling systems with a four stroke engine on it. No reason why that modification couldn’t be made in aircraft.

They've tried automotive engines in airplanes a few times, and failed. As much as I would love to see the power, reliability and efficiency of a modern automotive engine in my airplane - it must not be quite so easy.

I’m confident that the fuel will work. But as a pilot owner cost as the number one concern. There still hasn’t been a definitive answer on cost. He uses examples of the highest priced fuel in California when comparing. Just give us a straight answer already.

@@tpayne9791 who are you to tell me what to do?? All I said is I want a straight answer on cost. Besides what do you know about the stats on lead “raining down “ anything? Most of them have been disproven.

It’s pretty inexpensive, considering. My 118hp Citabria was something like $235. Comes with placards to install, AFM supplement, and pre filled 337’s for your mechanic.

Still a bad idea, gas we buy today goes bad after 6 months in a can.

20 GPH! Ha ha... at $6.40 is about $120 just for fuel... assuming G100UL will cost the same... cough cough... It will cost more... a lot. For my 180HP Lyc as much as possible run 65% or less and LOP at under 8 GPH. And why are we doing this? CLIMATE CHANGE? ha ha. OK... Lead? OK sure the amount of operations is insignificant.

I run an FBO and part of getting 100LL fuel deliveries is that we oftentimes we get safety data sheets. The thing that stands out to me the most is that the lead in 100LL actually takes the place of calcium based molecules in our bones (which is a reason why cars don’t run it anymore.) So if I can limit that health risk for my employees I want to sell that product.
G100UL would also open up the market for my FBO to sell fuel to pilots that otherwise buy car gas for their rotax engines as they don’t want to do frequent oil changes from the lead content from 100LL.

Its not cliimate change. Lead in aviation fuel ends up in the blood of children that live around airports and damages them.
