Many of us gear heads started our love of "machinery in motion" on bicycles.
i still have 2 bmx bikes i riding
This explains my love for automobiles and motorcycles eventhough I don't ride them....I would buy encyclopedia type books and do research ...I grew up during the 70's and 80's....my Dad had Chevrolets, Plymouths, Oldsmobiles, Buicks, and Cadillacs...he even had a AMC Javelin AMX...he worked on his cars and drag raced on the streets or at the drag strip tracks...he had 10 speeds and my grandparents had Beach Cruisers....he worked on those too....taught me how to do basic maintainence and repairs on my bikes including a old Scwinn that I tried to make look like a more modern BMX to race Huffys and Mongooses...I would have other bikes...10 and 15 speeds....Huffys and Mongooses I would win from racing....good times!

I'm 46 and my teenage Haro Master is still hanging from my ceiling in the shop. Mowed alot of grass for that bike. Priceless memories 🚴

Some 56 years back I started working on bicycles, and to this day I ride mountain bikes. and Man you made my day with this video. Bless you!
The Redline is my favorite in your collection. You were apparently quite skilled at jumping. You were already my favorite car guy but you just went up a few notches.
That was my first bike too, since my brother was older he got the most expensive one Trick Star Hutch. but I had so much fun with my Redline.
My first bike was a Skyline with mag wheels from my brother and My first brand new bike was a Redline 340. My last Redline was an all chome Black Redline 480 all red and black, 3 piece redline cranks, custom built wheels. I got rid of it like an idiot when Ebay was up and coming for $500
49 year old bmxer here. Just found out minutes before I type this he rode BMX. That Redline is sick. About to go ride the local skatepark. You're never too old to ride BMX. Y.o.l.o✌️

I love that as established, wealthy and car focused as Chip is, he still stays close to his BMX roots at his age. I love this, guys my age still sportin their BMX bikes, Too cool.

As another 50 year old, I still have my 1984 Profile, which I bought back in the day. Since it has been restored, it sits in my lounge room. It is my most prized possession.

The Redline is sweet. Had a blue and gold DG myself, that I bought/built one part at a time with paper route money. Character building.

I love old bikes so I was moving my finger to click away from this one, thought it would be a fluff piece of some kind, but stopped and I'm glad I did, pretty cool stuff, didn't know that he was into bicycles and the collection is pretty cool...

Youre welcome Chip. But about all I did was watch your TV shows and bought a couple magazines.. oh and I bought the cars of Overhaulin book, mainly because it had some of your renderings. But I say thank you as you taught me to draw cars in a way I never thought possible. You've given thousands people something. Inspiration, and we appreciate it.

Bmx...is and always will be my favorite sport...when young, "bmx plus"was the magazine i would always read and see the lastest bmx models that were at used on tracks and my favorites where the redlines , kuwahara and diamond back...the best..your collections is remarkably exelent. Good job foose😁👍
Such an iconic mag back in the day. We would hit the 7-11 after school whenever a new issue dropped. I always wanted a super light “gang green” Elf. Still regret selling my odyssey 3 piece crank set. Great memories of good old fashioned fun spending entire summers riding with the posse from one set of dirt trails to another. Thanks for taking me back in time for a moment to reminisce about the good ol’ days.

You ever see something for the first time in 20,30 years And it instantly takes you to the moment of your childhood? Mine was the "Orange Krate" I had one but it was oddly Olive green It was too big for me and I would have to hop up on a curb and kick start myself off And hop on the Banana seat ...Now i had "Wheels" to catch up to the Ice cream man lol
In the 80's In Canada the BMX to have was the "Profile" Many had Hutch's PK Rippers Redlines But there was always that 1 guy that had something diffrent I worked all summer cleanning pools for complex's around me (I was 14) I ordered a All chrome Profile, Double butted spokes. Even the seat was chrome What a fantastic bike
I gave it to a kid 2 years later that had recovered from cancer with only a widowed mother to support them So he could enjoy it like i did

Turning 50 this year. I restored my 1980 mx2 for the kid. Its worth to much to let him ride it alone it almost got stolen once in 83 wont let that happen again.

Redline, PK Ripper, Schwinn sting, Webco, Diamondback, CW, etc. Loved them all. I raced bmx as a kid in Florida. Some of the best times of my life. Thanks for sharing.
PK Rippers were so cool, Landing gear forks, made them even better.
I used to have a Hutch Pro Racer and I knew it was cool, but I didn't really know how cool, until 15 years after I traded it for a broken mini bike. Man, I even miss that thing in mid-life. 😞
A kid down the road had a PK Ripper that I always wanted and I found out later, he was jealous of my bike. I guess the grass really is greener on the other side. Lol

I was already out of BMX by the time Free Style 80's started.
I had a DG too. Mine had Ashtabula cranks and forks. Great bikes.
In the early 80s I got a Blue Max for christmas. Single mom raising me and back then this bike was not cheap. This memory of my bike days was the best. I had so much fun with this bike. Thank You mom for all of your sacrifices. We miss you and I love you.
Oh My God, That Redline!! Me and a friend saved up all summer to go halves on one of those. That bike was awesome!! We were 13 and the bike shop we bought it from is still there! Bikesmith Pacific Beach.
Great bikes! That last one is my favorite. I still have my Hutch Pro Racer and it rides like a dream.
Mark Hyers Hutch made the best bikes. I wish they made whole bikes again. I inquired with them but they said just parts.

The BMX at the end had Campagnolo cranks not Shimano....really neat stuff!

the cranks everybody ultimately wanted before the (full chromoly Redline Flights and Profiles showed up) were the anodized Sugino Maxy Crosses.
I had two full Campy BMX sets in my display case. Nobody had a clue what it was.
My favs from back in the day: Mongoose, GT Pro Performer, Red Line, Skyway, Hutch Pro Star, Hutch Trick Star, and the PK Ripper

Awesome Chip!! I'm 45 and have fell in love with bikes again after 30 years apart. BMX in particular. And I too will be searching for a GT Pro Performer 1986 Frame and Forks so I can recreate the bike my dad bought for me when I was 13 at the Indianapolis Bicycle Garage. A kid in the 80's and a good BMX bike is a powerful force that is hard to stop.

Yes and if you bought the willy setup that was a separate item that could be used on many bikes you were the stuff on your block.
I started collecting Schwinn's back in 06. I was 16 and the first one I bought was a lil tiger for $50 bucks complete no rust.
at $195.00 only the wealthy could afford them
Miguel R Good work man! Lil tigers aren’t much to some(mostly wannabes and dreamers), but they are a great entry point into vintage bikes and yet are still highly sought. This is coming from someone who personally restored every inch of every lil tiger in one of the largest show winning lil tiger collections in the world.

That orange Krate brought back memories of my orange painted 20" Stingray. Bought the frame and fork around 1979 from an old gentleman and pieced the rest together... painted it original Schwinn orange color. Got it stolen around 1985.

Was glad to see the Krate. Those were the pinnacle of bikes when I was a kid. Like driving a Ferrari to a ten year old in the late 60's.

Ken Colvin light as hell, but cracked easily. I had several. Had to learn to weld as a young kid to fix my frames.
Mine was stolen then got a Quadangle thats now in a BMX Museum

@@G-man45444 Yep that was Mike you can see it on you tube I would of canned him also doing side work on company computers for the competition.But there were only a couple of guys I like on that show one being Charlie the Painter and the other guy with the big goatee and black framed glasses.Could not stand that shop manager with the way he treated People.
@@charliegutierrez8728 I would see Boyd regularly at the Marie Callenders in the Friendly Hills section of Whittier CA back in the early 2000s(when his show American Hot Rod was still on the air) and he was really nice(socially, at least), business-wise, I think he was just too stressed out and demanded loyalty. BTW, he was a heavy drinker!

I also built a Redline Proline as a kid. The frame was used and belonged to a buddy who had just got a new bike, also a Redline. He had it blasted and painted red by a guy at the local body shop. He told me the frame w/chrome fork was $200. So I saved my allowance all winter for it and when the day came he told to take the $200 and buy all my parts! All gold anodized everything and Araya rims. It was an awesome ride that has since been lost to time but thanks for reminding me of it!

Wow, this reminded me of growing up in the 80s, my brother had a dyno.gt...in chrome...hard to find today with gyro, and pegs,,,from those days
I too also had a Redline bmx back in the early 90’s but unfortunately it too was stolen, but now I am finally reliving my childhood memories with another Redline that I managed to find and it will be house bound under lock and key.
That bluebird is a holy grail bike for many collectors.

Thx so much. I’m a huge 80’s bmx history buff. I had my Diamond Back Turbo lite stolen too. those Bmx days were the best! Building my favorite Bmx I wasn’t able to get as a kid. An 86 Haro master.

When I was 13 in 1977 I had that stingray 5 speed. Can't remember where we got it, but I Wish I still had it.
Whoa Chip was a shredder. I had a Redline 800p circa 1986, my world revolved around it. Parted it out to friends that needed parts they couldn't afford. Man I wish I still had it.

I've always been a Chip Foose fan and even more so now. Great collection of bikes there.
The actual mileage between qpipes, ditch jumps, woods tracks, and death jumps was on an Olympic training level. Didn't mean anything to ride 15 miles a day.
15 miles one way a day was nothing. That was just kids in the 90s commuting to their friends houses or to the skate park everyday during summer break. For a lot of us not growing up in America and not in just in a handful of cities, bikes were our entire basis of transportation that linked us between nothing whatsoever and anything and everything whatsoever outside of a landline telephone.

Thanks for sharing your bike collection with us Chip. The Schwinn Krate bikes were to die for back in the 70s. We all rode around on Stingrays back then and would strip the fenders off of them and setup ramps and jumped them ramp to ramp emulating Evel Knievel. So much fun.
My mom won a Stingray in a contest in the 1960’s at a local drug store. You had to guess how many candies were in a big jar. My mom used vitamins of a similar size and filled a jar with them and counted them. She was the closest and won. She later gave it away for a garage sale of a friend of her’s along with a ten speed that I bought with money I earned. My parents occasionally gave my things away for some reason. It still irritates me so I don’t do that with my kid’s things.
I stumbled across this video, but how cool! I'm the same, lots of bike memories, and I've got several. I got the Haro Team Sport that was the ultimate bike of my childhood in the 1980's was remade in 2017 and it looks just like it. It was way too expensive for us at the time, but I bought it now and it's hanging in my house as art. My dad loved the Crate bikes (And hot rods btw, HUGE hot rod guy) and had an original Orange Peeler for me to ride when I'd come visit as a kid. (He lived in CA, I lived in Ohio) I built some skateboards too I remember from growing up, when we were poor and couldn't afford the cool ones. I worked in a bike shop for four years as a mechanic and in sales. I was a roadie, pounding miles on like crazy for my Tour de France dreams, but I also rode MTB, trials, and BMX. Bicycles were main only form of transportation for years, and I live by Cleveland. The year we set a record low temp in the Winter of -21 F, I rode my bicycle to work. The chain froze and wouldn't go through the derailleur, the bearings in the headset froze and I couldn't steer and crashed several times, but I got there about 5 miles away. Once I got there it was closed due to extreme temps, so I had to turn around and ride all the way home, haha. Lots of bike love. Now I just use them to not be so fat, haha. Cool collection!

Hey Foose, those are Campagnolo Cranks on that Redline BMX. Not "Shimano."
My father owned a custom auto body shop and him and I restored a lemon peeler back in 1989. It was super fun to rip around on. Although I was into GT pro freestyle tours and BMX racing. Showing up on a Lemon peeler at the park grabbed everyones attention!

Really cool reminds me of going to my Uncle Jack's place when he would show me all his old bikes that he got out of old basements while chimney sweeping in Victoria BC. Finally made his museum
