That bike for me was the 2003 mongoose outer limit bmx bike, it just handled the abuse and then some. It took someone running a red light and hitting me from the side to even dent the fucker, and it only hurt me bent one side of the handlebars and one of my cranks. I rode vert, street, pump tracks, did downhill bmx and even got some suspension forks newer wheels and a disc brake for the front and used it for downhill trail riding until the bottom bracket gave way and separated from the down tube

@@TheDude-yw4kn actually they were Bear Trap. Not saying they didn't make bear claws also. But the highly popular pedals in the 80's were Bear Traps made by shimano. Bear Trap was followed closely by the 2nd most popular KKT Lightning pedals. I myself preferred KKT's i raced BMX in early 80's and switched to freestyle riding around 1984.
I had a Schwinn Sting (yeah a $700 schwinn that weighed 17lbs) Mongoose Super Goose, the first HARO (it was actually just frame, forks, & handle bar kit produced by Torker for Haro) a RedLine RL 2O, and a Kuhwahara (don't remember the model).

Great video.I started with a bike from K-Mart in the late 70's, turned it into a "BMX" bike, broke it over and over, replaced by a Rampar (Raleigh brand), and after that was stolen, I got a Supergoose in the early 80's, all the tricked out parts, bullet proof, wish I still had it....just for nostalgia. Back then it was all about BMX.....No video games, no internet....leave the house in the morning, head to the "swamp-side" BMX track my buddies and I built and tear it up...or disappear into the woods and trail ride.... or head over to the BMX track at Waterford Oaks County Park (Michigan)...
(if we could get a ride), be home for dinner. When it was time for my son's first bike we went to Target, it was very disappointing to see Mongoose in a store like that, but I bought it anyway....foot pegs, smooth tires, thing weighs A TON. He's out grown it, but there it hangs in the garage. Surprised it hasn't pulled down the garage ceiling. Back in the day, Mongoose my not have been the lightest or the most coveted, but my 'goose' NEVER let me down. Ever.

Im not known, im not that great at all disciplines. Let me tell you though bmx brought me many life lessons! Growing up you fall and get right back on your wheels, same with life, you never give up. Bmx is more then a sport for me. My dad introduced me when i was very young! Now im passing the torch and ride with my 4 year old whenever possible. Thank you bmx, thank you Mongoose and all other companies. Thank you legends of the sports. You still directly effect the little kid within me and all others thoughout the world. Thank you BMX. When i had a Mongoose i had the first 2 stolen.First was from the front yard and the next was in school. My third and final one i had it locked up at home when i was not riding it.When i rode to school several times, there were kids ready to steal it after i locked it up near the principal's office.I had to fight many times to save my precious Mongoose. Finally after the principle talked to my parents about my fighting in school.I was made to lock it up in my room and not ride it to school.I had that bike for many years until when i got my first car at 16.All the Mongoose bikes that i had i had to work for by afterschool paper routes, cleaning backyards in the neighborhood, and collecting bottles. My parents made me earn what i rode even my first car.Bitter sweet memories of the 1970s and early 80s.Wow!What times they were..Now i have a Raleigh Mountain Bike and still rip across the desert here in Las Vegas NV like i did as a kid in Pheonix AZ with my Mongoose...

I remember Mongoose from the early days of BMX and have owned literally hundreds of Mongoose bikes over the years from the Californian, Expert, FS1, Hoop D, and many many more. I can honestly say I grew up on a Mongoose and not just one Mongoose. I rode other bikes sure I've owned so many I couldn't start to count but Mongoose was always a staple in my childhood. I am still building and restoring bikes and I attribute my love of bicycles to the fun I had on many bikes as a young child and Mongoose was a huge part of that.

The BMX factory and warehouse was the largest building in town and still is. Over 1 million sq. feet under 1 roof. I got to meet Skip through a mutual friend and I got to take a ride with him one day with him driving his 1972 Pantera with a Nitrious Oxide equipped Ford 351 c.i. Cleveland engine built by Ed Pink, down Winnetka Ave in Northridge, CA. at incredible speeds. He was a super nice guy and obviously very very smart.

Chrome with black and yellow components, what an awesome time we had ,everyday sun up to sun down! Loved my goose, I traded the honeycombs to a buddy for a pair of yellow tuff wheels! That was sweet! I moved on to diamond backs and then redline....I was very fortunate to have some excellent bikes in the 80s, and even better memories with my best buddies, Brent, Steve, Tony, Deion Sanders (NO NOT THAT ONE) and so many awesome days of the best times BMXing!

I agree somewhat. If a kid gets a Mongoose bike from Walmart then gets the bug that way and then moves up to a better bike from a shop and he knows the name Mongoose he might wanna buy a better Mongoose. I think that is the strategy with that.
I race RC cars now, a lot of kids first got the bug from a Walmart car/ truck. Then goes to a hobby shop to get a better car more suited for racing. In a world where kids dont wanna go outside anymore I think any way you can get the kids infected with the bug of bikes or RC etc is a good thing.

@@ArrKoKo The myth is big box bikes weren't used by everyone back in the day. The reality is big box bikes from Kmart and hills were what 99 percent of the places had. Only the big cities had shops dedicated to bicycles. So the majority of the people living in rural towns only had big box to select from. The reason why big box has a name for crap- department stores purposefully don't put the bikes together good on purpose to prevent people from riding the bikes in the stores. You get the same quality of bike from big box stores that you do from bike shops because they are all manufactured in China now. It was different back in the day when we still had manufacturers in Germany and the US. But now everything is Chinesium, even the stuff that is supposed to be made in Germany or Italy, that stuff is just assembled there and shipped locally. The videos you see on youtube of people buying bikes from Wal Mart and immediately taking them out and destroying them, if they would actually tighten everything down and true up the wheels those bikes would be tanks.

I was 14 Years old in 1980, I built a National track in Spruce Grove Alberta Canada. I was importing Mongoose frame , forks and bikes from US to Canada. I sold many Mongoose bikes and frames before I was 15 years old. I had a bike store get involved and sold them there. I built the National BMX track with the help of the Principal of the Junior High School of which approved my written plan and brought in a D9 Cat to cut the track to my design. There was incredible times there. We had Anthony Sewell come to the track ( Jag World Champion at the time) R.I.P and I actually beat him on my own track with my 48 front and 16 rear teeth. Perry Kramer came up to the track and brought his SE Racing Team , Rob Lynch and others. ( Beat them too) I had local sponsors pay for the trophies and charged $5 bucks per race and I made money every race. Sometimes couple hundred bucks a race day. I really did that and had more fun than Punk Music .... or close to it. I left the country when I was 18 years old and came to California in 1984 ( been here ever since)....I had a part of bringing BMX and Mongoose to Canada and it was the best times . I have plans to build a BMX track in Huntington Beach Ca. now and want to make it an Olympic track. Wish me luck. Maybe Mongoose will help. Let's Rocket ! Those of you who might know me, I'm Jonny Zurba. Call me if you want to help build it. U can find me.

Purple, Yellow, Orange, White, Blue, Green. I can remember it like yesterday. They also had a row of matching GT Performer kick scooters, with tiny white mag rims to match the BMX bikes. The Bikes were $399 and Scooters were $179. My parents never got me one. They also use to have BMX events in the parking lot of the store in the summer. This was in Tewksbury, MA.
