  • I have done the Ocoee pretty much my whole life, and it's a great section for a joy lap. But when we got the original Antix it gave the run a different perspective, just so many moves and places to play. So naturally once we got the 2.0 we couldn't wait for the launch to come so we could get back on there! It was basically the first place we went once the 2.0 launched and it was everything we expected and more. Love being able to turn even the simplest of joy laps into hours of good times!

The modern day version of your dad circa 97’ when you were living in the RV. Impressive how you’ve driven the progression and global ambassador of the sport. 🤙

I had the pleasure of being able to paddle te 2.0 and its a sick boat, super easy to squirt and throw around. It like if Jackson made an 8ft playboat, good work Jackson.

Haha so much fun! Great video!! BTW, the quickest way to chill that beer is in an ice bath. Water+lots of ice cubes in a bowl then submerge the beers in the bath. 🥶🍻

Is the bridge with the target painted on it still there? The first time I went down the Ocoee it was in a raft. I had gone to Nashville to visit my sister who was a doctor at Vanderbilt University Hospital. I had flown in, and so didn't have my boat with me, and she was just dying to get me to see the river. The raft guide didn't know what he was doing, and was reading lines wrong all the way down. He managed to flip the raft twice and put everyone into the drink for a pleasant little swim. Except some of the carp weren't very good swimmers. Anyway, as we came into sight of the bridge, I saw the target painted on it and had to laugh out loud. The guide once again misread the river and wrapped the raft around the bridge pylon which had the target painted on it. When we got everyone to shore, I looked at him and said, "Dude, what the hell?" He said it was his first time guiding on the river. Thing is, it's an easy read, and he really should have been able to navigate around it, but as I found out, there were no proficiency requirements at the time, and the raft operators would pretty much hire whatever warm body walked in the door and asked for a job. The target was painted on the bridge as kind of a joke about how many raft guides had wrapped their pig boats up around that pylon. I drove down there a few years later so that I could run the river the right way. It wasn't very challenging, but it was a lot of fun with the sheer number of play holes. It was a place where you could just let go and have fun doing moves. A nice change from the water I was used to in the Rocky Mountains and on west, or the whitewater in the Tyrol, or some of the really crazy rivers they have in the Andes. During my boating years Russian white water was off limits to American kayakers. I wish I was still young enough and able bodied enough to be able to do anything other than flat water on a calm day, because there are some really gnarly rivers in the eastern third of the country that I'd give anything to be able to do. All of you present day 'yakers don't have a clue how good you have it with the number of choices of truly fantastic water there is available today. The boats are better too. Plastic boats were just coming into their own when i had to quit we did a great many runs in fiberglass Phoenix boats. I was never so happy as the day I got my first Prijon boat Big fun! Now you have padded seats and boats where you don't need to work inside of it to re enforce the deck in order to prevent it from collapsing under the weight and stress of water pounding down on top of it in an endo hole. Plus you have nice comfy padded seats; a thing we could hardly imagine. We, instead, would glue pieces of foam rubber into the seat and cockpit so that we could use our hips to do the kind of moves you take for granted these days. Also, we had no back rests in our boats. If you didn't have a strong lower back, kayaking was not a sport for you, even on flat water.

Last time I ran the Ocoee was probably 1990. Ran over a kayaker in one of the fist named rapids and he got stuck under my canoe. Guy didnt yeald to the down stream boat, was surfing the sneak route. Had an altercation with him there. Old wooden Silver Creek to the bridge of the nose

I’ve moved to TN after living in Florida for a long time and paddling offshore in almost any condition. I get that feeling every time I drive by the Little River or I’m fishing Daddy’s Creek, you know the one... I wanna run that in a yak. Unfortunately I’m a complete noob at whitewater kayaking. I’m in east TN where should I start?

There's a reason I was going to say Hiwassee before I even saw the two other comments. Plus you can rent a kayak from web brothers float service and they'll shuttle you to the put in. Most of the rapids are on the left side of the river besides the ones that are practically unavoidable. The flow schedule changes after labor day so do it before then.

Water xfers heat 25x faster than air. Here's the trick to cold beer fast. Add enough water to a container large enough to submerge your beverage(s). Cooler is fine. Add lotsa ice cubes. Add a bunch of salt. Not too little 🤏 but not so much 🤲 to absorb all water! 💦🤔 This allows the water to get below 32°F and closer to the temp of your freezer's ice. (Ideally 0°F) Spin the bottles or cans in the solution for 5-10 minutes to expedite heat 🔥 transfer from your beverage. Crack or snap open and enjoy a frosty ❄️🍺 one! Enjoy responsibly. 🙄😁

Why is it called Callahan's ledge or hole? I have done this section in rafts a few times and the guides could never tell me why. I had an uncle who was a guide a long long time ago and his name was Mikey Callahan was just curious the story on it. Thanks

I don’t actually know why, rapids are generally named after someone if they are the first ones to run them. Or occasionally they are named after someone who has a bad line during some of the earlier descents. Never really understood that one though haha
