Had a few “aha!” moments there. Could listen to your niece’s lovely voice all day. Obviously a quick learner. Thanks for a great video.
I'm glad you found useful info! Thank you for this feedback 🙂
So THAT’S why my paper never started wet enough or me to attempt wet-on-wet. I never wetted it for more than it took to get glossy because all the tutorials I watched and the books I read said to not wet the paper too much or it would develop puddles. I never realized that just meant to not add too much water and not that we shouldn’t work on the paper for longer than it took to get glossy. Thank you again. I’ve been binging your videos for the value you provide and you never disappoint. And thank you Lucile for your help in the video because from you, I realized a few more of my mistakes.
Thank you so much! Yes it took me a while too to understand why my paper always dried too fast 🙂
Hot press is used for light layers or detailed work, it also tends to show off granulated paints better.
True, I use it for hair paintings it performs beautifully 🙂
I hope you found this video helpful! Let me know what issues you have with watercolor below!
This was extremely helpful. So much information packed into a (much appreciated) shorter video than most explaining these concepts. Soothing and straight to the point.
Thank you very much! 🙂
Absolutely wonderful explanations for a beginner such as me. Thank you so much for putting your first ever attempt in a video for all to see, it truly makes a difference. An artist can no longer demonstrate something a beginner may do because their experience never allows them to fully remember what it felt like, or the exact errors made.
Yes it's hard to force oneself to do it wrong 🙂
Good job, Lucile!
Very insightful video, thank you! I am new to watercolour and had exactly this problem today. I now understand why my backround didn't turn out as I wanted. You explained the technique very clearly and now I can try to do it better next time.
I'm glad this helped 😊
I like this one
Absolutely amazing tips and tricks and what a fun way to show to actually show the example of a absolute beginner person. I actually do few of these mistakes, and would surely incorporate these techniques now
That's great to hear Supriya, thank you for your precious feedback!
.What a wonderful series, I learned so much and cannot wait to buy real 100% cotton paper to see how different my painting looks. Thank Lucile for her contribution to this. Merci!
Thank you on behalf of the both of us, and yes 100% cotton cold pressed is great!
Thank you! This answered so many of my questions!
I'm glad you found it useful!
Contrasting between a beginner (like me) and your skill and experience was very helpful. I appreciated how straightforward your tutorial is. Many thanks to both of you!
Thank you very much! I am glad this was helpful 🙂
Great job Niece! I'm an acrylic artist and this was the first video I watched on watercolor. Perfect!
I'm glad it was helpful !
Brilliant video, really helpful!

Thank you! I'm very happy it helped you! 🙂
Such a great idea to have your niece be the example ! Thank you both, great video.
You're welcome !
I actually quite like both of these. Perhaps it depends what you want to achieve
Yes you are absolutely correct, thank you for sharing your thought!

Thanks for the information. I am definitely not wetting the paper enough or for long enough by the looks of it.
I'm glad this is helping !
This was such an amazing video.. i did a painting after watching this video and I actually understood where I was making mistakes, the painting turned out beautiful 😍 thank you.. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Aww that's awesome! Thank you!
I've been drawing with watercolor for longer and still struggling with backgrounds, but I'm sure this will help!
Yes I think so 🙂 i made another one in the do's and don'ts series like this !
Great video and great idea to have your nice as a helper! It really makes sense to compare what us beginners would naturally do :)
Thank you, I'm glad you found it useful!
Wow really good explanation!!
Thank you, I hope it helped 🙂
Very helpfull! showing the two processes is a great idea and helped me a lot! I hope your niece wuold help you do other tutorials!
Thank you!! My teenage son is the next one up, we're preparing another one and I'm glad you enjoyed this one 🙂

Thank you for her 🙂
Such a beautiful video, explained very well😍😍 your niece is such a fast learner😊😊 beautiful work in second attempt 😊
Thank you very much Tanu! I will let her know 🙂
@@paintingandchocolate 😍😍😍
Now I understand what I was doing wrong. Thanks a lot!!
I'm glad to know it helped, thank you for the feedback!
No wonder I like the cold pressed paper
I really experienced the same problem with Hot pressed paper...I couldn't control the annoying lines after the colors is dry..thanks for the information
You're welcome! Yes, cold pressed makes it easier 🙂
very informative
Thank you, I'm glad you find it so 🙂
Great video, thank you 💖✨
You're welcome Izabela
@@paintingandchocolate The most important for me was the explanation of what paper I should use. But also everything with the water... I will try is one day 💖✨
this was really helpful I can't wait to try again thank u!
My only question if ur adding layers how do u wet the paper again w.o activating the paint underneath?
Thank you for your feedback. When i rewet i dont press nor do too much nack and forth, it should be quicker to rewet painted paper than when the paper is paint free. These paints dont lift very easily, others might but in general don't insist too much.i hope this helps !
Probably explains why it took me longer to finish my painting.
That's amazing mam😍😍
Thank you Gurleen, how are you my dear?
@@paintingandchocolate aww I m doing good mam...🙄 how r u ...💖 ..I really miss u ..u r such a kind hearted person I've ever met on IG😌💖
hi Francoise and Lucile, thank you both very much for this turtorial! It helped me a lot!🍀
Thank you Chantal! I'm glad to know this 🙂 lucile and I have a new one (oil pastel gradient) coming out this Friday, it will be our second video together after 1 year 🙂
Plot twist:
She is herself acting as her nice😂😂
.
But amazing video.. learnt alot🤩🤩
I still like the ❌ one. 🤣
My niece will be happy since she tried very hard 👍
@@paintingandchocolate and im so happy that y'all put efforts to share this amazing techniques and ideas to us. Thank you💓
I understand what your saying but Im seeing the good beginnings of floating ghosts in a old Polaroid picture
I agree it's a pretty abstract background 🙂
Lucile’s process looks better!!!!!
She'll be very pleased to read this 😁 she did great for a first time!
Can anyone tell me why there are patches made in my water painting?
Could be the paper type (lower end, cellulose papers) or you use thick paint and it has a hard time to flow.
Ohhh wow..so nice!!! Best wishes from Penmayam 😊 Hope to see you to my art place 🤗✨ Fullywatched!!!
Nice tutorial helpful!!
Thank you!
How wet can you get the paper before it warps and ruins it? I'm always afraid to wet it much.
If it's one that deals with water well don't be afraid, even other papers can take a certain amount easy. For it not to warp too much the masking tape helps but still you might need to flatten it after it's dry (dampen the back lightly and let the painting sit underneath a pile of books)
Honestly i like lucile's more 😶😶
I'm sure she'll be happy to read this 🙂
