- The Coast Guard called off its search for 18-year-old Cameron Robbins, a recent Louisiana high school grad who fell overboard while on a cruise in the Bahamas.
Robbins graduated from University Laboratory School (U-High) in Baton Rouge on May 21 and went on a celebratory boat ride with several hundred students.
On Wednesday night, he reportedly jumped overboard on a dare. Reports from that night said it was inclement weather.
After a two-day, 325-mile search, the U.S. Coast Guard said on Friday it ended its search-and-rescue efforts that were coordinated with the Royal Bahamas Defence Force.

What is so tragic about this story is that in a split moment of trying to please others, this kid gave up his short life in this world. Listen all you young kids out there, do not try to please anyone because not everyone has your best interests at heart.
This is absolutely true! Beyourself, have sense enough to know what’s important and don’t take dares! Don’t be bullied and don’t give your life for a stupid dare! You have nothing to prove, and others don’t have control over your actions!
It was his ego that took him under
I'm not too big on words these days. People think they can make a difference with dream and talk.
not a good idea to jump off a cruise ship.
amen
Imagine you send your child off to celebrate his graduation, and next thing he is buried at sea forever. Lord have mercy.

If he jumped on purpose, she raised an idiot.
Prayers for his family
@violamateo my mom emphasized the dangers of life constantly. I'd roll my eyes, say "I know, stop worrying" then proceed with all sorts of stupidity. All teens think they're invincible, until they're not.
He's in the stomach of a shark
What gets me about this case is the regret he must have felt once he hit the water, the fear of the unknown splashes in the water, and the realization. Truly, probably one of the worst ways to die and I can't get this case out of my head.
He impulsively jumped into water with sharks. Didn't really fully understand the danger. And then you see him attacked and killed right on camera. Some POS kid even says "bye-bye" as he sees the sharks go in for the kill.
Seen the boat get away from you is the chilling part
See the boat disappear and you’re alone swimming in pitch black is nightmare fuel
@@NorwinMaranion The kid was attacked and killed in a few seconds right in camera. What you saw in the video was the last seconds of his life
Same. Ever since I found out about this story I cannot get over it. How he probably thought he would use the life saver and get back on the boat but now his life is gone…

I imagine the moment he jumped and realize that there was no return, it must’ve been like a terrible nightmare he couldn’t have woken up from. Truly chilling
That’s bone chilling
I honestly want to know how long someone can be in a open body of water like that before they get to tired to go on. No land in sight to swim to. Also how do you end your life in a body of water. Do you just wait until you sink and drown? After you drown does your body sink to the bottom? So many things run through my head thinking about this. This is my worst fear
That's what I was thinking. What an actual nightmare.
@@trentbulen3854 the best way to end it would probably be to swim down until you can't keep going, you'll then have no choice but to drown, I wouldn't do that personally. Looks like a shark ate this guy before he had time to worry about all that.
@Trent Bulen They weren't very far out. It was like a party cruise. The water was about 16ft deep, I read. Rip currents are possible. But I don't think he waited there or felt loss. Something more sudden happened to him. It's such a horribly sad story.
Truly horrific. I can't imagine the regret he must have felt when he relaized he was in trouble.
Bloop bloop bloop
When the first shark sunk its teeth into his flesh and effortlessly peeled it off the bone.
I doubt he died right away, probably a couple minutes under water. It’s terrifying
I can definitely imagine it. It's a large part of why I'd never do something like that. The thought alone is enough, I don't want to experience it.
He got eaten shark grabbed him it was videoed at the end
It always makes my heart sink when I hear about a search being called off.
Yeah they should keep searching may be they will find his body in undigested food in sharks poop😂

Uh, just decline the dare.
Nobody dared him into anything, he did it because he wanted to do it. Hard to feel bad for someone that did something so stupid. He did this, and only he is responsible for his actions. You gotta be pretty dumb to jump off of a boat in the middle of the ocean. The thirst for praise for doing dumb things is strong. Being egged on to do dumb things by others that would never be dumb enough to do those things, is pure comedy gold. The only life lesson is if people are daring you to do something, it means they think you are dumb enough to do it, and if you do it, then you prove their point. If jumping off a boat is so cool, then how come nobody else jumped off? Maybe he should've asked that before jumping.

Here in Portugal, a 17 year old girl was lost for 20 hours. She spent 20 hours in the middle of the sea in her paddle board during an entire evening and night. She was very lucky because a ship passed by and saw her 25 miles from the coast.
Same thing happened to my friend in HS. Our friend dared him to jump into a rushing river and he never came back up. They found him 3 months later miles down the river. The friend who dared him to jump in, never got over the guilt and pain.
I jumped off a high cliff in Italy when I was 18. Had no idea how dangerous it was. Kids honestly feel that they are untouchable!

Untouchable my ass , who the hell in their right mind jumps off a cruise ship into the ocean because of a dare ; the ass wipe that dared him should be charged
This is an explanation of why teenagers do risky things without thinking about the consequences. Their prefrontal cortex has not fully developed. It doesn’t fully develop until the age of 25. That’s why when we all think back about stupid stuff that we did as teens, or even young adults, we shutter to think about what could’ve happened to us in hindsight.
Research has found that adult and teen brains work differently. Adults think with the prefrontal cortex, the brain’s rational part. This is the part of the brain that responds to situations with good judgment and an awareness of long-term consequences. Teens process information with the amygdala. This is the emotional part.
That’s why you jumped with no hesitation when you were 18 bc you weren’t thinking with the rational part of your brain. I could’ve died so many times from stupidity as a teen and young adult. I thank god that I’m still here today!
So tragic. And the students who dared him to jump will live with this for the rest of their lives. Rest in Peace Cameron...condolences to family

I almost drowned 3 times in my life once as child and once as a teen and once in my adulthood. The last time hit me different then all the rest. I cramped up in just a short amount of time of me swimming back to land. The current was strong and I was slowly but surely drifting away from my girlfriend which is now my kids mom. I remember having tons of people around me watching as I struggled to stay above water. A branch sticking out the water saved my life. I held on to it as long as I needed too. Then I continued to swim back. It's truly one of my biggest fears now. So much so that I don't even like playing in pools, going to beaches or nothing water related. I can only imagine the feeling of jumping off a boat with land no where around to even think of swimming too. Knowing the decision that was just made will be the last decision you may of ever made. There isn't enough money in the world for me to jump into the ocean. RIP young lad
@@CM-ho5ic lol fr tho I’m good right here I’ll watch you
30,000 plus people die in their cars in the USA each year in contrast, and few people bat an eye about doing 50 mph in a metal box alongside other metal boxes also doing 50 mph.
@@ooczzy sharks don’t usually eat or attack people for no reason.. they usually will bite but spit out the body part
This is so tragically sad My heart hurts for Cameron's Family Friends and Class colleagues
Seems such an unnecessary loss of life through a possible dare
💖🙏🙏
Bless his parents and family! I hope in whatever way it is that, they are all reunited ❤
All that schooling and still no sense
Schools are indoctrination camps that teach you to do as you're told and not to be a free thinker....starting to make sense now that you mentioned it.
The facts from the video released :
If you look close you can see a shark at the beginning on the left. It looks like a wave but its the dorsal fin. That's why he makes a sharp turn right away from the buoy but the shark catches him. The moment he disappears in when the shark gets him followed by him screaming if you listen close. One of the girls even yells there's a shark.
Sadly it looks that way. What a terrible way to die😢
Link to video ?
Are you serious? Oh no....the video is not too clear for my eyes....
But a resident from the area posted a comment saying the area is not frequented by sharks...??
Do you have a link to the video?

I can't imagine what this family must go through right now!! Especially when you start to think about his odds of still being alive here 5 days later. They may never find his body. So sad!!!
So young......so sad.......my deepest condolences to his family and friends😢
That was just plain stupid
SOOO tragic. I ache for this poor family.
It is still encouraging to hear of good people trying so hard to help.
I love how they say “Fell” into the water. “Jumped” is more like it, huge difference.
So tragic, my thoughts and prayers are with his parents, family and loved ones
Remember the kid who was dared to eat a slug and died because of rat worms inside the slug! Kids now a days very gullible RIP 🙏🙏
I thought of that too!
I also thought about that young man, he suffered so much before passing.
The things people do to impress others. And usually when others pressure you to do something it's usually something stupid and/or dangerous.
His dumbass friends were probably live-streaming the entire event on their social media for their high school friends to watch in real-time while they were all yuck-yuck'n it up like it was a big joke! I really hate being around groups of kids in this age-group when they're behaving like this.
I'm also surprised this was the only video taken. There's a better version out there, I feel. No way only one teen would have their cameras running.
@@PinkGrammarGirl I agree. They probably already deleted the video from their phones because they're running scared, now that their dumb plan failed and their friggin friend died as a result.
I’m going to pray he can be found alive. 🙏
He's shark and fish poo now
This generation of kids truly have no common sense. It's scary.
This pains my heart. He knew he was in the pit with moments to live.
Ego, pride, alcohol, wrong friends, been there.
Prayers, blessings, peace (restoration) IN the ❤
Now his "friends" can go home and tell his family what happened.
Perfect example of why living with a little bit of fear is a good thing. I know that even if the woman of my dreams said that she'd be with me for doing it, I'd just be too scared to jump off a damn ship at night.
A little bit of wisdom. Don't jump off of ships on the middle of the ocean, you might lose your life. Single handedly one of the worst decision in the history of decisions.
You can clearly spot a shark hovering him in the video.
The Bahamas is one of the worlds most dense shark hotspots with over 40 species of sharks.
That's incorrect. It's not 40.
There's a video of the young man in the water, and you can see the sharks splashing near him. He swam away from the life ring because sharks were there.
@@watsonspuzzle The Bahamas has tiger sharks, lemon shark, reef sharks, white tip, black tip, nurse sharks, hammerhead, dusky, bull and saw sharks. I'm Bahamian. I know my waters. Their aren't no other than that.
This news is so sad. I've heard stories of people surviving at sea for days... Could there be a miracle? Prayers to the family and friends.
That the end to the search must just be a throat punch to the family. They must know it’s coming but it’s still a punch. Bless their hearts
