I'm 63. The last time I felt this way toward a music group was the Beatles, but even better. It's not just the music, or the incredible choreo, it's that they are all, each as an individual, absolutely adorable. They are like my kids, and I take pride in them. I love them.

BTS connects to a spiritual level to a degree to some people. They speak about Life in their music. They unapologetically speak up about depression, struggles, and loving yourself. Their music literally saves people's life from suicidal thoughts and help them love themselves. That's why they are where they are now. It's their Genuinity they keep up til now.

32:12 ARMY as a fandom is extremely diverse in age groups, gender, sexualities, ethnicities and professions. We are all kinds and are welcoming of all kinds, and that is why we get pissed off when people and the media categorizes us and calls us rabid and hormonal, teenaged fangirls. It gets really frustrating because it is not the truth.

44:35 Purple is the Fandom and BTS color yes but not in the way most fandoms have a color. In our fandom instead of i love you, we say I purple you or in Korean Borahae which means I will love you and trust you for a long time, this phrase was coined by V, Kim taehyung. He says that the rainbow had seven colours because there are seven members in BTS and purple is the last colour of the rainbow colours so that's why it is a promise to trust and love forever. And it means a lot to the fandom and to BTS.

23:06 BTS does have a lot of power over their own career, as a group and individually. I will leave this comment here to give you an idea as to how the creative process works for BTS and big hit. These are my observations from 8 years as a fan, and information gathered from official interviews with both Big Hit and BTS and conversations the members themselves have had with us fans. I hope you get to read through it, It will be quite long.
The members themselves have a huge amount of input into this (even though they get extremely shy and are extremely humble about how much they contribute because they love to highlight the fact that it is a team (BTS/BIGHIT) effort, which in all its sense it is but the boys really love to downplay themselves). The members choose the album concepts both as a team (all 7 of them) and individually, this was confirmed in a recent press conference. Big hit tends to gather their ideas (they interview them separately and then again as a group), they discuss the best idea and then they turn it into a coherent/palatable/ marketable product to put out for the public. BTS has huge faith in the phenomenal and amazingly talented, competent and loyal team that surrounds them, and they always let us know that, they are considerate of and loyal to their team and the team is considerate of and loyal to them.
For music videos, the boys speak with the creative team (their creative team is called LUMPENS). LUMPENS produces the boys' music videos, and collaborate with other companies on things that they need to outsource or things that they think this other company might do on a bigger scale or better. LUMPENS then comes up with rough ideas based on BTS and Big HIT's visions, and based on the concepts that were chosen, and then they leave bring these ideas to life (the boys do not get to see the final product until a few hours before release, and they love that and we fans find it hilarious, especially when they release their reactions). Also while shooting, they tend to tell the directors, and the people that they are working with what shots and scenes and aesthetic they might want to be shown or include in the final product, and if it fits the directors and editors tend to include these types of suggestions in the final cuts and products as well. The same thing goes for stage set up, they discuss the concept, come up with a rough draft and let the creative team in charge run with it, the boys adjust the final products themselves if necessary.
Production-wise, like beats, arrangements, and on, again it is a team effort/collaboration involving in house producers, mixers and engineers and whoever else the boys (the boys choose who they like to work with but also do take BIG HIT's advices into account) want to work with for the project/song/album. The boys discuss the sounds and styles they want to do, and that would work with whatever concept they chose/settled on for the album/song/project. Then they produce according to those choices and/or choose pieces that other producers/artists send in hoping for collaborations and that exchange is mostly done through Big hit, as they are constantly busy and on the road, and tend to work on their stuff in hotel rooms and on the go. Most of the time, they work with other in-house producers to figure out everything. They get a lot tracks, and guides, melodies from their producing team and they themselves produce a lot of the tracks/ the brunt of the tracks, or they themselves come up with the melodies (Jimin made the blood sweat and tears melody, V made hold me tight, Suga made dead leaves and that is just to name a few). And then they go back and forth between themselves, and their collaborators, and the big hit producers and staff, until they have a final product/ sound on which to apply their lyrics. They tend to write lyrics or adjust lyrics after they have the track (they confirmed all of that on a recent interview). Again, the final approval is with the members of the group whose ideas and thoughts have the final priority in whatever is being released.
Lyric-wise the members themselves write 90% of the lyrics, and 100% of the time the final drafts for group lyrics have to get all the members approvals but especially the approval of the member who wrote the most for the track or the album (often that member is RM) before they are released/put out. They get inspired from everywhere, oftentimes they will have a theme or an idea as to what they want the song to be about and based on and then develop the lyrics from there. RM, SUGA, AND J-HOPE'S lyrics tend to write most of the lyrics, but all the members contribute and depending on the song and which member's lyrics fit it best, they would settle on other member's lyrics as well. For solo projects, however, it only involves the thought and approval of the member whose song/album is being released.
    .
So yeah I would say the members are involved and participate in every step of what they put out, from concept and theme to music video presentation, to songwriting and producing (which is where they mostly put their skills to use), and performance/choreography (which ultimately goes through J-Hope as he is in charge of helping the members learn whatever choreography is fit to the songs, and also tends to add his own points to the final choreography which he ends up discussing with each member to figure out what ways to make it easy for them to make it their own, especially the other dance line members (JIMIN, JUNGKOOK and V), and he also helps keep up energy and tends to help monitor the performances (especially for concerts) in order to help keep tension and tighten what needs to be. They discuss this stuff with their main choreographer/performance director Sung deuk, especially if there is something they want to change because it interferes with their singing/rapping or because it feels awkward.
BIG HIT takes care of stuff like promotions/publicity and marketing strategies and broadcasting things, schedule planning, overall all the business and commercial aspects is all BIG HIT. however the members' do have control of their social media accounts, although they do have account managers and social media experts that help them out with them.
Overall they are quite transparent with their process, and the members, especially RM, hold these livestreams on VLIVE after each album where they discuss and talk to fans about what it was like working on the album at hand, special behind the scene episodes and stories about each songs, what they meant to express, and how they came about, what they were thinking when they wrote them ect..
I hope this was helpful and answers some of the questions you might have.

I have watched this vid ever since the day i first heard my first BTS song and I didn’t know who they were.
I am 42 and my son is 13...he knew of BTS and listened to them but i did not even know. He never played the music without having earbuds in. I heard 1 song on youtube snd looked them up and saw this video. I fell and got every song on iTunes. I too used headphones n so for like the longest we both loved them but we did not know. One day he is gaming when I here him singing Fake Love. My heart leaped. I took my phone n played it. He stopped playing and came to me and said “is that ur music mom?” I yelled yes so proudly. I asked “u know them?” He is like duh it’s BTS. He took my phone to see my playlist and saw all their music. we spent the rest of the weekend singing BTS. That May I rewarded his good grades and behavior by going to Metlife for the Speak Yourself concert. His first concert ever and it was with me to see the boys. Till this day, nothing I have ever done, compares to sharing that moment with my son.
You see, I am sick. Born with sickle-cell and in 42 years it has ruined my body. I live in pain and it has caused 3 brain aneurysm, congestive heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, and end-stage renal decease - so I am on dialysis the last 4 years.
I don’t even care that i am telling all this here bc i found BTS when i was suffering. I love my son so much snd I want to always be there but the what if is so scary that my will and love were destroying me. I am a woman of faith and still i felt hopeless Their song magic shop changed that. I feel so blessed bc these 7 men, with 1 song helped me to fix my mental state. It gave me this hope for my future. This wonderful amazing hope and the very music that helped me love myself, is the same music and message that my baby listens to. Even if i could, i would never change a thing. Never. I am so happy snd grateful, and I will be an ARMY who loves Bangtan and supports Bangtan for eternity!!! Thank you BTS and thank you ARMIES everywhere for loving them! 46:39 A lot BTS songs address real issues and real things, that is not to say that they don't have love songs because they do but even those are not your overly typical songs and they use a lot of gender-neutral pronouns in their writing, and RM mentions that a lot of the time in songs especially starting from 2015, the I need u era and on, the usage of words like "girl' and "baby" in their songs, mostly serves an aesthetic, and filler role and is used because it sounds pleasing to the ear in the musical phrasing of the songs, however the songs themselves are not necessarily about a girl/boy, and that you have to actually take into account the context of the album and themes being discussed in order to really grasp what specific songs are about. They go out of their way to be inclusive in that sense and their Lyricism is out of this world genius. That is why fan always recommends that reactors and new fans do pay attention to their lyrics and that they also watch breakdown and analysis videos because more often than not there is a lot of hidden context and thematic play inside a song or music video that you might not catch if you are not careful and even then you might not catch it because it is not your are of expertise, the play with psychology, mythology, socio-economic situations, literary and philosophical references (the members of this group read a whole lot). They are very unique that way.

11:10 last year and the year before last, these tv stations tried pulling out old footages they had on them and made them into specials and stuff. Some of these tv stations are so salty, they legit tried to discredit big hit and BTS by reporting on non-existing feud/lawsuit between BTS and big Hit and they legit obtained the false and unverified information by breaking and entering into BIG HIT's building, this stuff made the news and everything. I mean now a lot of them are regretting the treatment they gave to the boys. One of the reasons why BTS does not attend very many Korean Variety shows is because of a couple of incidents where members were mistreated and disrespected on some of the shows they went to.

The BTS x Army friendship is, for me, the most beautiful friendship between artist and fans. The Army is always there to defend the boys with all their might, and BTS is always making it CLEAR how dedicated and important the fandom is and not just obsessed little girls.
It is a mutual relationship, where both receive and return love. Both BTS and Army are always thanking and making declarations of love for each other, and not just in words, but in gestures as well.
fun fact: BTS and Army are very close and in lives they talk about personal things ... very personal lol
Once an international army asked a question and the translator translated it wrong, implying that she had a stomachache. Jimin read and crouched in a fetal position, teaching her the right way to poop LOL BRMKBTM

22:51 I agree with the media thing. What hurts most is that they are still not covering korean artists properly and not covering BTS properly. They tend to use BTS for clout, and disrespect other korean artists by using BTS name and pictures on unrelated articles and they constantly bring up BTS when they are talking about any kind of artists from Korea. 1) that is disrespectful to BTS and 2) that is disrespectful to the artists you are interviewing and covering. It is all a game of clout chasing and on top of that they totally write underresearched pieces, that paint BTS or any Korean artist for that matter under a very unflattering light, and all of this stuff borders on racism and some even cross that line. As ARMY we are tired of it, other fandoms are tired of it and it makes for a lot of fandom wars because it garners more hate for BTS because it seems like they are hogging all the attention when it really is not true.

regarding the media in the west i would like to add: As the prominent group in the frontlines of the expanding coverage of Kpop in the west(because of their success), BTS has faced the full brunt of xenofobia, racism and sabotage(don't get me started on the radio networks). Radio will not play them , interviewers are nasty behind their back , youtube deletes views (probably because Big hit doesn't buy adds with them) and the Grammy's will praise them and use them for views but will not acknowledge their music and achievements(many award shows did the same). This has made ARMY particularly feisty since they have been battling these institutions for as long as bts have been popular in the west.
Regarding how female rappers portray themselves: Women have always been forced to look and behave how men wanted them to. There are several ways to claim power as a woman. Some become like men(see politicians) to be taken seriously others take ownership of their sexuality by flaunting it but letting everyone know it is theirs to give away. Both ways aren't my thing but should be accepted as their choice in how to deal with a male dominated environment .

That can't be ignored it's like BTS has created not just an ARMY but like a Force. The people in America spent a leader and that leader should stand by the people but in honesty that's not the case. We spent them and they turn on us. BTS are there for the ones who in a sense sooner then and yet they never seem to turn their back in them, they support the people as the people support them. The way it Should be. I wouldn't be surprised if this group in done way shape or form end up become the TRUE voice of the people, if that hasn't already begun. But they managed to keep going and keep their passion, which is something they have mention that they are afraid of losing especially in this recent album that just came out. I firmly believe that our world is in desperate need of ppl open minded, more aware of other cultures, all forms of art, not letting society tell them what they should think or do, speaking for themselves... BTS is encouraging their fans to follow that path, and more important, they are leading by showing the good exemple themselves. So I just found out about black oceans like month ago.
For those who don't know what a black ocean is in terms of kpop, let me explain.
Usually, during events like award shows, when another group comes on stage and they aren't a certain fan's fav, they'll keep their lightstick on as a sign of appreciation for the artist.
So sometimes, as a sign or protest and hate against the artist or group, kpop fans will turn off their lightsticks. Those lightsticks represent the fans backing the artist or group. So by actively having a bunch of fans turn them off at once, it is very noticeable to other fans and the artists.
It's so disrespectful and yes. This has happened to BTS. It's horrible.

In the past, I think the 1st and 2nd generation of kpop groups used to have actual official fandom colors, and they used to have balloons of those colors in the live performances and concerts. There was a lot of drama over some of the colors because, well, there are only so many colors available and inevitably someone would get upset that one fandom's color was too similar to another's. These days it's all about the lightsticks. Some fandoms have their colors, like BTS has purple, but it's not official in the same way it was back then.
I think I remember you saying you may watch some kdramas in the future, so if you want to see more about the olden days' fandom culture in kpop, Reply 1997 is a pretty entertaining drama that also teaches you about how it was back then. One of the characters is even played by a 1st gen kpop idol, Eun Jiwon from Sechskies, a group that is mentioned a lot in the drama.

He asks real questions that the fandom has. He doesn’t constantly ask the same “Who you want to collaborate with” questions. He actually listens to us and he has done his research on them. He asks about what’s important and not what’s fashionable. Watching him speak to Bts makes us happy. The boys are very comfortable around him and he treats them extremely well.

Yes near the end that was the light sticks, called ARMY Bombs.... they are Bluetooth synced to the concert venue to change colors during the performance.... they pulse with the beat, turn off when they want it dark, spell out messages, etc.... they sync down to the individual seat location. Absolutely beautiful during the concert. Thank you for looking more in to them. Alllll of their music has purpose and meaning.... sometimes it sounds poppy and happy but it is talking about not falling for the status quo, for example.... a lot of different levels to their art. Thank you!!! 💜

16:28 Preach! I feel like a lot of korean artists, and I say korean artists because I don't like the connotation that often comes with the term KPOP, and that term Korean artists, goes for any group Exo, Got7, Monsta x, shinee, suju, and more, they have so much talent and so much drive and work ethic but that is all stiffled by the companies most of the time, by the way these companies do things, because they either micromanage (manage too much) every aspect of their artists lives and give them very little creative input, or they undermanage and don't provide enough tools and support for the artists to really thrive and achieve and I've felt that and think that is the case with a lot of groups which is why I enjoy lots of kpop groups, exo, got7, shinee, monsta x, infinite, BAP, Vixx, BTOB, I enjoy music from all these groups and so many more, and I've consumed a lot of their content, but there is a certain connection that I have with only very few of these groups and it all comes down to what I mentioned above.
Big hit found the perfect balance and they provided a healthy and supportive environment for BTS, and the boys were able to develop and grow as people and as artists because of that, and their authenticity and artistry was able to really shine through and as a proud ARMY, I think that is one of the reasons why they were able to break through to so many people and make it into to western market to the extent that they have.

As a fan and lover of music, I think you would really like RM's mixtape 'mono.' I actually recommend people listen to it when they are in a quiet place, alone, and have the time to devote/give respect to the music. It's a very contemplative and complex piece. I don't think it should be used for reaction videos. The entire thing is a masterpiece imho.....both very personal as well as hitting universal themes of feeling displaced within society, depression, disappointment, the feeling of deja vu and an eternal struggle from birth to death. It gives no answers really......just a contemplation of musing/thoughts/feelings and a gift of saying we're not alone even if we have to deal with these feelings (that all humans deal with) in our own ways. It's available free on soundcloud.

Ok so im 66yr old grandmother from Australia and I've been s BTS fan for 4 years now. I'm hoping to go see them in concert I will probably have to go overseas for this. I was hoping to do that this year but with the corona virus it's unlikely to happen. I've also become interested in learning Korean and visiting the country as thru BTS I've become interested in the culture and the food is amazing also soju is quite nice also. Best of all I've always been disconnected with my emotions but not anymore and that's thanks to the guys. I also try to be more tolerant and understanding of others. At the age of 66 I got my first tattoo as a tribute to my love for these men. It commemorates the group and the fandom and the connection that happens between us. Over all my life I've always been open to different music and I've been fans of a lot of different artists but I've never connected to anybody the way I have to these guys and I think it's the best thing that's happened in my life apart from my family. I think of them as honorary grand children and regardless of what the future holds I will never not support them in what do. I will always washer be proud to say I'm ARMY

I thought omg I'm 51 at the time, listening to groups of youngsters put out some good music, am I the only one? Then I see this video and it was so crazy to see I wasn't. In fact people older than I was were so into this music and these groups it made me but into laughter and excitement because I was like, YESSS IT'S NOT JUST ME, WOOHOO lol. Do I'm so glad to know that there older generation make up a good percentage of people who love these groups, but why wouldn't we if the music is this good and the message is that strong.

lyrics of theor songs is so comforting or strong is some ways - especialy when you know that in most songs they talk to themselves where it's written "you". Like song Paradize - where they say it's ok not to have a dream or have a simple dream, that we deserve a life and for somebody a life itself is a dream, or song Magic shop where they say that fans can exchange their worries in this magic shop called bts to positivity, or so many more songs, new albums songs have so much meaning to me and their solos can be interpreted in best ways possible. Or even rap track UGH - which is about people wasting their anger where it's not needed, useless and hurtfull, instead of directing it to change smth to the better

I literally feel so emotional when bts get completely and utterly ignored in the west, I recently saw that one of their songs (I think it was ON) had under 200 radio plays in total, in the uk where I live, they refuse to play any bts songs unless they feature a western artist or if the lyrics are in English. I am actually so ashamed of it, people where I live are very ignorant and rarely even glimpse at anything that isn’t in English, which is so disappointing because language shouldn’t have anything to do with it. Fans become the subject of bullying just because they listen to something that isn’t English. People just need to open their eyes and give things a chance rather than just ignoring it because it’s not “normal”

    Hey!!
I stumble upon your channel and I like the way you learn about them.
People often criticize BTS but after being part of this fandom for 7 years, I can tell you, BTS don't need to pay or refuse photos for the magazines. To be honest when you mess with BTS you mess with ARMYs. The fandom will hunt people down if they dare attacked BTS and made them apologise to the boys or had the company fired the person in question. It happens before with B-Free (The one who said it wasn't makeup but being a girl) it happens with different journalists, presentators and all that jazz. That' how strong our bond with BTS is. We probably are over the top sometimes, and probably overprotective of BTS, but we went through so much and they went trough so much, that somehow we can't help it. It doesn't excuse everything of course, but yhea, they are so important and helped people on a level medias will never acknowledge. In our fandom people of all ages, nationalities, gender and more are reunited thanks to BTS around a message we all try to spread "Love Yourself". They talk about problems of the every day life, depression, bullying, loosing yourself, songs we all can relate to no matter who you are, that's why ppl love them.
And even if people react to them because they are "A Thing" now, I know they fell in love at tsome point after learning where they come from, seing that, YES they started from the bottom to the Top, and YES that's possible to achieve your dream if you put everything into it.
    Thank for reacting ^^

Honestly, what you said at 31:40 (I think) is actually something that I've been wondering myself, and I am 20 years old. The message music used to bring has been lost for a while now, and BTS came at the right time for me and a lot of people from all walks of life. There are artists that are good out there but they no longer deliver lessons that'll last for generations, even artists that I love with all my heart. It's actually very refreshing to hear someone else say it because I am so done with trying to find artists nowadays that'll speak more than sex, money, and drugs. I don't particularly care for none of the aforementioned. Rap and hip hop, too. Maybe I am not the most knowledgeable person out there, but I miss raps that made me FEEL, RELATE, and there is nothing of the sort. Of course, once in a while, you want to have fun you listen to a diss track or something, sometimes even these types of songs have some sort of message, like how to deal with hate and stuff. As a woman, (and this is my opinion, don't nobody come for me please) while it's great that there was/is a movement to reclaim our sexual power, a lot of the fight for equal rights and safety are lost nowadays, which, FOR ME, is the most important part. Each to their own views. ANYWAY, thank you MONQ for always giving your insight, it is really nice to hear other opinions, especially from someone that comes from the underground scene that knows firsthand the industry.

Exactly, when I was younger that was my thing. I thought it was cool, but I thought as o got older, well if it's not helping us to see the consequences of the negative circumstances them it's useless, it doesn't educate. Never mind how much you give to your community monetarily. What about systematically? What about programs and tools that will help them in the future? I saw a documentary about a radio artist who did well to create his own company. He was able to buy his mother a home and himself a home as well. He would go back to the neighborhood to basically to visit and give back, but instead of building something or education or contributing for a long term cause. He went back, played a few games of basketball with done of the kids, then got on his new Mercedes, and started handing out 100 dollar bills, and I thought, what did they learn? What did you teach them? Nothing, they will just wait for you to show up next week, with another shoebox of 100's to hand out.
