Had a scan today 03/08/2022 in the new 3T scanner at Derriford Hospital. Brilliant scanner, not as noisy as the older ones in my opinion but still noisy. Directions to the new 3T MRI scanner are still not listed on Derrifords web site. The New 3T scanner is on Level 3 at the Terence Lewis Building. The Freedom Unit Entrance.

I been a MRI tech for 4 years! If you have high anxiety I have a few tips for you! Bring a friend or family member to come in room with you! Ask if they have music for you to listen while getting scanned, cover your eyes with a wash cloth or ask your doctor for a sedative before you schedule the test. Also ask the tech to give you a count down during the scan. Ask them to talk to you every 3 minutes. This really helps.Remember breathe normal. Pretend you are going to sleep or think about a fun time and just focus on that. Avoid caffeine. The tech will always give you a emergency call button if you have to come out. Ask if you can take a look at the machine before the scan. If this fails , look for a open mri in your area.

Ty very much I hope they can do this for me cuz i have autism and spd so loud noises ect I hate but I have to get an MRI on my head sooo yeah fun but thanks for telling me these things imma defo see if I can do them or atleast the music one cuz that helps calm me soo much more

@MRIMan I have a pelvic MRI coming up, I'm 5'6". Would I go in head first or feet first? Or do I have an option?
Lmao I have been told by ent I need to have an MRI done on my head cuz I have weird clicky noises in my ears then my eyes go funny i get double vision, super blurred and go all lightheaded ect like I'm about to pass out but dont and no one knows why so yeah first MRI ever and I have autism and SPD so that's gonna be fun. Hope it's ok lmao and hope I dont have sensory overload and or start ticking 😂👍

If you are wearing noise blocking headphones or earplugs how can the MRI tech talk to you?
Wonder how long it takes to get an MRI on socialized medicine. Probably years.
it’s a few weeks if it’s not urgent, immediately if it is urgent
The longest part is waiting to see a specialist who will refer you for the mri: six months waiting list for me. I ended up going private in the end.
