- This video provides a step-by-step demonstration of the recognition and immediate management of sepsis using an ABCDE approach (sometimes referred to as a head-to-toe assessment).
You can read our guide alongside the video here: geekymedics.com/acute-managem...
The ABCDE approach can be used to perform a systematic assessment of a critically unwell patient. It involves working through the following steps:
00:00 Introduction
01:01 Airway
01:34 Breathing
04:43 Circulation
07:50 Disability
08:54 Exposure
10:58 Senior review (SBAR)
Each stage of the ABCDE approach involves clinical assessment, investigations and interventions. Problems are addressed as they are identified, and the patient is re-assessed regularly to monitor their response to treatment.
This guide has been created to assist students in preparing for emergency simulation sessions as part of their training; it is not intended to be relied upon for patient care.

This video required a lot of hard work from a bunch of amazing people (and me) so I hope you find it helpful! ❤ - Lewis | Founder
Thnx to those amazing people from the core of my heart who worked to hard to make make this video which gives us a great opportunity to learn this procedure crystal celarly ❤❤❤
Thank you so much.
With exposure, what is significance of rash if found???
It could indicate a dermatological source of infection, suggest an alternative pathology such as anaphylaxis or indicate something like meningococcal septicaemia (if non-blanching)
I am a GMC registered doctor. I have been following you since my PLAB-2 exam 2 years ago. Your videos on clinical examinations were extremely helpful for me. Thank you.
Great video. The mannequin blinking had me questioning my sanity however, haha.
Me too wondered if was a person or a manniquin

You just blew my mind, congrats for this master piece.
I love this so helpful for nursing school. Please do more simulations!
This is absolutely amazing, few months back I got schooled about the SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessments, Reactions/Recommendations) means of communication in a healthcare setting and that absolutely what happened here. I’m overwhelmed to be an RN ❤🎉
This was so much fun to watch. I typically feel like I sometimes oblige myself to watch medical videos just to balance out the fun and studying. But, I enjoyed this one a lot more than I initially would have expected. Thanks. I do hope that you also show more realistic versions in case for example the patient wasn't compliant, or in case there is no chief doctor available and the case is declining. What would a starting doctor have to do in such cases?
This video means everything to me…
Loss my Brother to Sepsis…

What about antipyretics? We should also add paracetamol bottle to lower the temperature and stop further hyperthermia
Awesome. Thanks
Amazing work, love it. Thanks a bunch for the efforts. ❤
Thank you this was great!
She put him directly on 15L with NRB just because his sat was 86%. He could have COPD. You know what my consultant likes to do when sat is 88 he will nebulise them, a round of chest physio and maybe 3L of O2. Usually sat improves after these measures. Another thing missing is BNP because ecg will be normal sometimes in failure.
Thank you very much ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Blessings Geeky Medics, for the video I am a nursing student this video will help me, thank you.
So glad to hear it’s helpful 🙂
It was so helpful!
amazing intervention, but i have some question about how you treating the pation, on ECG there is a supra unevenness on the underside , i saw the sinus taquicardia as well but, whjat happend with the endocardial infarction seriouslly amazing, im latin nursing student and it is amazing watching this kind of videos, thank you so much
Great stuff team, fantastic simulation based learning. This video will be used by doctors, nurses, paramedics, PAs etc so big thanks for contributing to FOAMed.
Our pleasure!
PAs should be doing the discharge summaries; leave the doctoring to the doctors;
Absolutely amazing..I am a joiner to This so helpful ❤
Awesome! Thank you!
So helpful thank you! I am 2 weeks away from my final OSLERS so I need my A-E and SBAR to be smooth.
Is there any difference between us or uk licensing in medical examinations? In US, there are USMLE 1&2? How about in UK?
Geeky videos are super awesome. We love you
You’ve made our day!
nicest senior ever
Great video. I was taught to listen before auscultation 9f the abd. Any reason why you dont do this?
Learnt something new today SBAR
We’ve recently produced a video on SBAR too 🙂 m.czcams.com/video/X_3wY-4f8HY/video.html
Beautiful
fantastic
Very informative video but I have to say where I practice from in Africa it would be extremely expensive to get all those investigations and tests at once and on time. A physical exam with minimal important tests would suffice here.
Malheureusement lorsque certains examens ne sont pas approfondis, on passe à côté du diagnostic et le traitement et la prise en charge ne sont pas adaptés
Omg I love your British accents!
ABG was uncompensated metabolic acidosis.
I can’t believe I’m just now finding this channel! Thank you 🙏🏾
It is very helpful simulation. Just wonder if she could ascualtate the abdomen before palpating it so that perstalisis will not be affected.
Great❤
Dr is so sweet 🥹
This is such a helpful video thank you! I recognise both Katie and Leah so it was a shock to see them here🤭 is there any advice for how to practice A-E for OSCES besides watching these videos? A lot of my sessions in placement have been cancelled because of strikes. Thank you!
could someone please explain what is meant by....Large bore?....i'm presuming the size of the cannula...thankyou....Excellent video by the way.
Lovely stuff here folks. Very much hoping there’s more in the pipeline!
That's the plan!
Super nice video , thank you
thanks for the video. the problem may be on his back [posteriously]
I really liked this!!!! On your site, yo join, is there a fee?
Good presentation..please also share about asthma and anaphylaxis
Hi, good day. It was very informative. I was just confused about the abdominal assessment as the doctor palpated first before auscultation. Can you clarify?
Quick question…
Aren’t we supposed to auscultate the abdomen before we palpate?
A great drinking game - every time someone is polite to someone take a sip 👊☺️
Can you do an ABCD for an unconcious patient
Amen
How much would it cost to get access to the website where I can work with AI virtual patients, and get some work done simulation wise? I NEED IT!
The chest percussion is a waste of time. Just auscultation and get a pulse ox. Didn’t clarify whether the ABG was on room air or non rebre mask. Otherwise good video
Great work. Just one thing to remember-always auscultate BEFORE palpating the abdomen. If you palpate before listening you could hear more bowel sounds that would not have been there had it not been palpated first
I was invested until the consultant said he’d be there in 5-10 minutes 😅
My mantra was “be the consultant you want to see” - Dr Potter
Can you please tell me the manufacturer of this manikin. I teach CPR and this is the best regular looking person.
Aayoo that's Speed 😂
Never do xray or labs before checking all vitals
Vitals should be done stat without requesting.
Is that alex hunter?
Do you have licensing from US or UK ? Is it any difference ? I need to know from you docs if you may please..
