- The 2021 Ballon d’Or ceremony is only days away now. Soon, the biggest wait of the year in the football universe will be over and we will finally find out who the best player of the year is.
Although you were not allowed to vote for the Ballon d’Or winner, here, you can decide who your own winner is. To us, your vote surely counts.
In this video, we will be presenting you with the stats and achievements of the 2 major contenders in the year under review. Then you can go ahead and tell us who deserves the coveted prize in your opinion.
We may not know the winner yet, but at this point, we are pretty positive that it is down to 2 people. The 2021 Ballon d’Or award is surely going to go to one of Robert Lewandowski or Lionel Messi.

If anything, people should be upset at how highly Jorginho ranked. And also, Barcelona's results now without Messi would indicate that the team Messi played in was much more underwhelming than people think, yet Messi dragged that Barcelona side to still compete for the title for most of the season and qualify for the Champions League. He simply had a phenomenal season and fitted perfectly into that team and their style of playing. Werner being less impressive at Chelsea (and also at the German National team btw) is not only due the Premier League being more competitive than the Bundesliga (which I assume is what you were trying to say). There are a lot of other factors that play a role.
Also, 28 and 41 goals is still a huge difference. And because we are comparing a Spanish rather than English club with a German one, it should also be taken into account that the two leagues are not that different in terms of competitiveness. Lewandowski should have won the trophy

In the 2012/13 UCL, Ronaldo was top scorer with 12 goals whereas Ribery only scored 1 goal. Van Dijk won the UCL, finished runner's up in the Nations League and runner's up in the League (1 point) but still finished 2nd to Leo Messi who had only won La Liga that year.
Messi scored 51 goals from 50 games for Barca in 2018/19. Was the Top Scorer in the League and UCL. He was by far the best player at Barca and the only one who was keeping them competitive on all fronts right till the end. I do agree Van Dijk had one of the best seasons a defender has had in recent memory but was Van Dijk carrying that Liverpool team like Messi carried Barca? Was the likes of Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Allisson that far from Van Dijk during that season? They were also as important as Van Dijk to that Liverpool team's success.
When Messi and Ronaldo retire, we all will truly realize how great they were season after season for such a long time...
