  • Received this Mitutoyo M plan 10x objective that I purchased for 550euro listed as NEW (never used). However after closer inspection of the lens I noticed some scratches on the outside of the barrel. Ok maybe it was used after-all. That`s ok, but after looking through the front element I was shocked as there were these tiny dots allover the back of the front element that would never go away as these are on the inside. After consulting with Internet forum experts I concluded that this is called delamination and happens between internal doublet lenses. Most probably this happens due to extended light radiation that reacts with the cement that bond the doublet lenses together. So in this case this should never happened if the item is new! more likely used and abused!
Just a lesson for you out there especially the ones who are just starting in this hobby like myself, do a favor to yourself, do not rush when buying used optics online, it is better to save cash and get new optics instead !

There are so many used/abused Mitutoyo lenses out there with heavily worn down and scratched barrels - I'd definitely stay clear from any scratched barrel Mitu, there's almost always something wrong with them.

That's true. Better save some money for new optics

@@lmatrix6626 Or refurbished from a reputable dealer with warranty and return-policies available etc. It saves a few bucks and you'll still get an almost new one :)

I would definitely return this one. Yes, it is a delamination problem. Many of these delaminations look like the lens is having some bubbles inside. Good luck with the case.

I opened a case to return the item. Hope to get my money back so that I will save some money for a new one.

Got 440 euro back out of a total of 570 euro. Did not get the vat back but I assumed that. I will still give it a try when I get all the equipment before buying a new one.

@@seeminglyforever Not bad, around 90percent of a new one. That is what they told me when I showed them my 100percent crop samples. Nice channel you have, keep it up and you have a nice macro guess video. Coincidentally I started a similar macro object guess channel on short videos, please have a look at it if you have some time, I use Laowa lenses and also the Mitutoyo in some of them: m.czcams.com/channels/_03GLtJVTUDaaCOq_7phpw.htmlvideos

Leander, I recently purchased and returned a Miti 10x on eBay with exactly the same problem. I was fortunate to get a refund. It was from an USA seller located in New Hampshire. They advertised it as new/open box. I wonder if it is the same objective being resold. The seller had excellent reviews and treated me well, so I suspect they don’t know what they are selling and are completely naive themselves. Good luck!

Thanks for your reply. Can you please verify if he was 'reliable9900'. What did you attach as a photo proving damage for your return ?

@@lmatrix6626 I had made a comment requesting assistance from the photomacrography.net forum, too. See if this link works for you to see the responses. I have links to my flickr account in the comments that shows the damage I observed. I'll make them downloadable if you want to use them.

I think reliable9900 is probably an honest seller, but then I tend to think the best of people. The exterior of the objective is in excellent shape, so they may truly believe it is "surplus/unused." However, after two returns, I think they need to re-think it. Good Luck!
