Pseudoscope Kit

- The Pseudoscope is an intriguing optical device. As well as expanding the apparent distance between the eyes by a factor of 3, the Pseudoscope also switches the input to the eyes, so the left eye becomes the right, and vice versa. This makes space reverse, so that distant objects appear closer, objects which cast shadows appear behind and not in front of the shadow. In this sense, pseudoscopic vision fights normal vision. The scientist Wheatstone said that 'with a Pseudoscope we have a glance, as it were, into another visible world, in which external objects and our internal perceptions have no longer their habitual relation to each other.'

Maybe this video should be renamed "Watch Tim peel off protective stickers"
I would still have watched it and loved it.
It's like ASMR.
+David S. oh wow I never thought of it that way. and that's kinda true.
your so fuckin silly
You're*^
Aww, I'm a bit disappointed that we didn't get to actually have a look through it :(
I built one of these. You have to see it with your own eyes. The effect is that concave objects are perceived as convex, and vice-versa.
So a ball looks like it curves INWARDS from all directions, and a bowl looks like a sphere. It's very weird!
The effect requires the user to have stereo vision (which the camera does not have) and the effect happens in your head, as your brain tries to make sense of what it is seeing. Wish we could show the effect!
Ahh, that's a shame. I suppose the effect could work in a Virtual Reality format, but not everyone has a VR device and you're probably unable to record in 3D anyway.
Doesn't the camera take the two mirrors and still makes the image complete? We could just go into fullscreen and see the same effect or am I totally wrong.
+Grand Illusions You could attempt a 3D video to be viewed with Google cardboard, provided you have some sort of 3D camera.
I'd love a series of Tim assembling things, Its so relaxing to hear his commentary!
I'd like outtakes
+AceRidesBikes Looks like he does it basically all in one go.
Look up ASMR, you might like it
+Pietro Nastari this is better than asmr.
ASMR is weird
12 minutes of Tim. Have we ever been so blessed?
I'd buy this just to peel off the protection
Peeling it of does the same thing that Jake is doing in your profile pic
Hez same
Ha that’s what she said
The plastic on the back of the pieces is how the stock comes. When cut in the laser cutter, the plastic backing may get soot on it. The hexagonal pattern on the plastic covering is the soot marks where the piece sat on the laser cutting bed.
I love you tim. I've been really depressed with some family issues lately. but watching you make something, for some reason, made me cheer up a bit. so thanks dude.
Hope things get better for you soon. :)
+Hazzer
thanks mate, much appreciated. =)
Depressed? Or sad? If it's a crippling mental illness that makes every day of your life a step closer to killing yourself, your depressed, if you had a hard few days, your sad.
No, that's clinical depression. Feeling depressed is a mood that everyone can experience. Well done for invalidating his current situation. You must be proud.
+nicynodle2
well it's not really your place to ask mate, but i suppose my first comment was a bit to broad maybe, so what the hell.
there are many different stages to depression, just labelling them as "sad" or "depressed" is a bit ignorant, and they don't always lead to suicide, not if you have the time to deal with it and get some decent help. through a combination of therapy and correct medication you can lead a very happy, full life with all forms of depression, and even possibly come of the meds one day.
I would encourage all people with depression to seek that kind of help, it will work, but you have to let it.
unfortunately a lot of people don't take that route, and would rather choose denial. that's what I did for a long time, and it lead to me disconnecting from all my friends and family, suicidal thoughts were becoming more frequent.... but I was always was able to hide it from the people around me, I never spoke about it to anyone, so i didn't know what to do.
See i was never taught that these feelings could possibly be medical condition that effects a hole bunch of crap in the brain. so I got some medical advice, took the advice very seriously. and now it's a couple of years later, and I feel I'm doing well. I just some family issues are have pulled me down a bit lately. but I be alright.
thanks for your concern friend! =)
Sorry for the very long comment. =/
I wanna see Tim use the HTC Vive and do one of those rollercoaster thingies.
'OH MY gOODNESS ME HOW WONDERFUL THIS IS IS THAT WATER FROM THE NoILE?'
This channel is like a mythical unicorn. So god damn unique.
No hate comments, supportive community, regular up loads, no drama, etc.
whenever i watch tims videos, i feel happy because hes an aged (not saying old man) british (im guessing he is english/british) man that shows off toys. and i feel like i want to cherish tim and let him live forever, so that he can do this more. his vocabulary and accent make all the videos better. just watching him take his time pealing off the stickers brought me some sence of joy. i hope that this lasts for a long time because i dont want these videos to end.
That was oddly satisfying - Peeling off the plastic wrapper.
First 3 minutes are some really nice ASMR tingles.
Tim should do asmr lol
+JamboyStu
both is highly possible
it was more satisfying than doing it yourself
You might like ASMR, then c:
12:15 those dead eyes, with a double tap of approval, "Good stuff Terry" .. should be a movie scene of an evil drug dealer approving the shipment.
hhmmm i see your point
I LOLed at this comment.
Tim peeling off protective tape is the highlight of my day.... tomorrow i polish my exhaust pipes..... oh what a life... HEH!
I just watched an old man assemble a toy for nearly 12 minutes. Not that i mind it though. Tim is like a nice grandpa that isn't yours. I want to sit in his lap and hear him telling stories.
That ball thing from the beginning is the first time Tims shown something that i actually own.
What a pleasant relaxing video. :)
ikr
We all obsess for Tim's 'huh moment'. But I think the person whom chases that moment the hardest is Tim himself. And thanks to him we all have the pleasure to share that wonderful second of feeling.
Tim, I doubt you'll see this but I have a great deal of respect for you. You are always dressed like a fine gentleman that you are. I would love if you would make a video letting us know a little bit more about Tim, when/why you got interested in your fascinating hobby and more information about your vast collection! I think I speak for everyone when I say we would all love to know you personally and be your friend because you're very entertaining and we would never get bored of you.
I never thought that I'd ever have so much fun watching an old man peel plastic off of even more plastic.
i like how he gently taps the pieces when he peels them off
it's satisfying and relaxing xD
6:52
Did somebody yawn in the background?
Even the camera man and the director become sleepy from Tim's calm ways.
WHO! WHO DARES INTERRUPT HIS SOOTHING VOICE!?
i just want the wand!
Lol same
Watched this a few days back, immediately researched it and bought one exactly like this off Tim's store... so amazing! So hard to describe. Both a subtle and powerful illusion. Most striking to me is how the illusion slightly stays with me for a good while once I put the pseudoscope down... certainly happened after today's 30 minute session!
Watching these videos makes me happy. it's been days since ive watch anything else
This video almost never fails putting me to sleep at night so relaxing
really really good camera work.. knows exactly what to focus on throughout the video
2:06 Gotta love that zoom in on Tim’s face as out of frame he’s struggling to get a sticker off a piece of plastic
Hi Tim, another great video; I made my own pseudoscope with two roof prisms salvaged from dead prismatic binoculars, but of course it offers a very narrow angle of view. Another point: when you fix the tripod bush into the base plate, it's better to have it going from the inside out: the tripod bush seems to be a standard 3/8" to 1/4" Whitworth adapter, and if it is fitted from the outside in, fitting it to a tripod top would basically pull it right out again; fitted from the inside, the tripod screw would tighten it further.
Protective tape from the Nile
That gentle pat at 2:27 is everything
What happened to the last video and the store page for the Gear Ring? I was really looking forward to getting one.
What did we do to deserve one such as Tim? I didn't know there was anything so pure and innocent left on the entirety of the internet.
Only Tim could make watching 10 minutes of putting together pieces of plastic entertaining.
Good stuff terry
You are such a lucky person, and you seem to appreciate it in these videos; thank you, Tim!
I love these videos. they are interesting and Tim's voice is relaxing.
I sat through all of that and don't even get to see the view?
Dang Tim that's a tease...
There's no way to show the view - The camera can't emulate two eyes.
I was pondering this since I bought my own pseudoscope. I think the illusion could possibly be replicated in VR... perhaps even with existing VR content (in a 3D VR game etc.). I think...
spadgy Yeah, it absolutely could. It's simply a different camera perspective than the usual angles set up for VR.
That was quite relaxing to watch, I like the charm of these kinds of videos for sure! If Tim ever wants to simply have a camera running while he works on something such as a toy model, I'd probably watch it, heh!
I don't regret subscribing to this channel. It will probably give me a few more years of life due to your videos being so stress-relieving.
I love this channel it's like having a grandpa tell you interesting stories and showing you cool things your awesome
I don't know what it is about your videos but they are incredibly therapeutic. thank you.
It’s midnight. I’m inebriated. This is awesome.
I'm running a monstrous fever right now and watching Tim assemble stuff is like like the youtube equivalent of the Price is Right. It's just so soothing.
But I am a little disappointed we didn't get to see through it. I guess the camera wouldn't permit it?
Proof that Tim could just assemble things with Lego and I'd watch it.
can Tim do some more videos where he carefully builds something and explains it? It makes me feel fuzzy inside, I dont know why.
You should have a TV series, I think you'd be an excellent presenter.
no mention on the damaged middle sized mirror?
Ever since I subscribed to this channel it's never boring to me. Always very interesting.
ASMR Tim peels protective stickers for his new toy
I always liked your video and the style of it.
Tim Rocks !
They kept filming Tim peeling plastic for so long, that I thought they were going to do a full ASMR episode.
You've been playing a lot of card games through the years, haven't you? I noticed that you tap the pieces that are roughly shaped like a deck or hand of cards against the table, as if to straighten them, every time you pick them up.
All of your videos are weirdly satisfying.
I so wish you guys find a way to film what it looks like from inside the pseudoscope!
Tim has such a soothing voice.
Lately, things have been going really bad for me. I feel abandoned and let down. And now I have no luck getting a job so I can continue living in my apartment. The person I'm with has been threatening to kick me out and I'll be on the streets. But I found this channel today. And I see how Tim is so proud of his collections. Tim just started to cheer me up for some reason. Thank you Tim for sharing your collections with us and you just gained another subscriber. I look forward to what you'll show us next.
^ years later I hope your life got back on track, it's awful when it all collapses around you and it seems the punches just never stop coming. All the best.
@@kingcosworth2643 Hey man, I want to say thank you for your kind words. Happily, things have gotten better. I was newly living with my then gf for two weeks at the time of my original comment, and it quickly became a nightmare. We broke up 4 months later and were stuck living together for the next two and a half years. It wasn't pretty living at all.
Towards the end of 2018, I met this woman at my new job. We began talking and instantly hit it off. After a few weeks, I felt like it was right to let her know about my living situation. A few months later, I was packing my things when my ex was at work, broke my lease, and my new lady and I moved in together.
We just celebrated our 4 year anniversary last month, have our cats, my family loves her and our lives are going great right now.
As for my ex, she tried finding me, tried suing me(didn't work), and last I found out, she had to leave our area and move back home.
@@thedarkrocker333 I'm really glad to hear things have gotten better for you my friend. Been in a miserable relationship is absolutely soul crushing, and it appears all to common. Legal problems are awful too, you kind of get the emotion that your life is paused because it's direction and future are in the hands of someone who really couldn't care less about you, and with the law it is impossible to apply logic to what the decision maybe as there is no room for logic in law. But yes, happy it's worked out, it sounds like you are happy in your relationship, and I think people need to be in a loving relationship to feel complete and with purpose. Best of luck for the future and keep moving forward, no matter what.
thank you for bringing fun back. everyone is so serious. there should be more people like you. :)
12 minute video? I must be dreaming.
Looks great and fun too - thanks for sharing
There is no one on earth that can hate this man
Truly magical Tim!
He's a rare type of grandpa he actually knows technology
Hey Tim who films you?
it was pretty cool that you did the the what's with the floating ball trick but I saw the string on the tide on the ball
I just bought and built this kit in early 2022. The instructions could be a bit clearer (I think using line drawings could be better than the current photos), and the effect is extremely subtle - so far I’ve only played with it for a few minutes and I’m not sure I’m seeing any effect at all! I’ll keep trying.
watching items being peeled is oddly satisfying lol
I have no idea what it is about this particular episode but it sounds oddly AMSR-like, especially the parts where Tim is assembling the parts or is removing the plastic coatings from the base. It gives off this oddly calming effect to it. I suppose that if someone were to actually purchase this particular kit it would be more oddly satisfying to build it rather than use it. The little popup wand included is also oddly satisfying, the mechanism used to make it extend out has quite and enjoyable vibe to it.
Also, I happen to have that same Sphere, and just by itself it is an amazing mechanical toy would recommend.
The way he threw that ball, so badass
good stuff Terry.
I love pealing off protection wrap and seeing that shin
I'll take your word for it.
this is my favorite ASMR channel on youtube. Heh!
XD
i would watch tim assemble legos. strangely relaxing.
for those of you wondering how the wand works. its a plastic band coiled into the shape of the wand and then compressed into itself. kind of like a reverse paper yoyo
just search "appearing wand"
Every time he put one of his fingers on the surface of one of the mirrors I just wanted to scream. There were even several times where it wasn't even the easiest surface to grab! GAAAAAAH!
I'm a stickler for clean glass/mirrors as well.. Smudges annoy the hell outta me.
Hi Tim, I was genuinely interested in what you did for a job in your working days, and basically your life story because you're so interesting. You're everybody's favorite uncle, and I wish you well.
Good stuff, Terry.
Oh goodness, more assembling videos like this please! The tingles are real @w@
If only all ASMR channels were Tim
@@JoeKurr5 you are 15 years old
I guess Tim's crew never heard of a "jump cut"
They probably have, its just that they prefer to show Tim in all his unedited glory.
So this turns into ASMR for a solid minute then.
good one tim
I see Tim is aware of his popularity in ASMR communities...
I was thinking the exact same thing.
Nice unboxing !
They -REALLY- should include a pair of latex gloves for this optical assembly...100 fingerprints in 12 minutes...
Three cheers for Terry!
That close up, Better than looking through the Device.
The way Tim pronounces his R's makes me so happy, this man is adorable.
This video is a great birthday present for me.
I strangely severely enjoyed this
THANKS TERRY
4:44, heh!
if you could sync two identical cameras looking through the eyeholes for demonstration for those who are able to 'cross' their eyes to view stereoscopy it would be marvellous. i mean im buying one as we speak but y'know. nice demo and all
When Tim runs out of toys he can switch to an ikea assembly channel.
3 years later people still love Tim ❤️ 💕 💗
good stuff terry!
"A gentle hammer"
* proceeds to pull out the BIGGEST FRICKIN HAMMER HE OWNS! *
He always brightens my day
oh man ive only read the desc so far this sounds hardcore
have him set up to stare at the Internet Explorer icon
Same here!
given 2 videos for each eye, placed side by side... it could be plausible to "gaze" behind the screen and generate a stereoscopic effect. In theory... given a tiny screen, or those 3D glasses where you have the two pictures on each side of the phone
Why do I find these so entertaining
