    the River Dan is the main source of water for the River Jordan supplying it with 50% of its waters while the Hasbani and the Banias rivers add another 50%.
    You can't read the words of Psalm 42 without thinking that King David must have been in this area when he wrote the words of this famous Psalm, painting the surrounding region into words praising Yahweh - the God of Israel.
    According to legend, the Dan gets its name from the Hebrew word for “judge” (dayan), from a time when each of the three rivers went its separate ways. The rivers bragged and boasted about which was the largest and most beautiful, finally asking God to come down from the heavens and decide which of the three was the most superior.
    When the Lord couldn’t make up his mind, goes the story, He suggested all three rivers join together. The ancient wise men of Israel say that the Dan actually won, because the word Jordan means “came out of the Dan
    Tel Dan archaeological excavations are considered one of the best examples of the remains of an Old Testament period city, especially when it comes to its city gates, high places and temple; not forgetting an 1800 BC city gate almost preserved fully that is dating to the period of Abraham.
    Strategically Dan guards the northern - eastern entrance of the country and the road that descend from Damascus. It is safe to say that no invading army would venture into the Holy Land coming from the North without securing the Valley above Dan, having control over Dan's region. So if Dan falls then Israel would fall.
    Travel through history, learning about Laish, Abraham journey into the promised land passing by it, saving his nephew Lot at this place, on to the period of the Judges capturing Laish calling it Dan. Divided Monarchy and split off the land where Dan becomes the northern boundaries of the country and the sanctuary with another one at Bethel meant to replace Jerusalem.
    King Jerboam I, King Ahab, King Asa & Baasha, King Jeroboam II all left their imprint at Dan till its destruction in 723 BC at hands of Tiglath Pileser III and his Assyrian armies leading the 10 tribes of Israel into exile, scattered amid other nations todays known as the lost 10 tribes of Israel.
