I hear guitars and I see bass, my brain explodes.
He uses an ABY splitter and an octave-up pedal to make it sound like there's multiple guitars...it's a pretty neat set-up.
Jacob Wild supposedly there's something else as well. Maybe it's just an urban legend, but he told Guitar Australia magazine that he wasn't giving away the secret
13dirty666 From a picture of his pedal board, it looks like he uses 2 Electro Harmonic POGs, 2 Boss PS6s, 1 Boss GE7, 1 Boss TU3, 1 Strymon Flint Tremelo & Reverb, 1 LS-2 and 1 Palmer Triage.
That seems enough to achieve his tone unless he's added more recently.
ProfessorGrey I'm just gonna stand hear an applaud you for that good knowledge and good eye...wow
13dirty666 The Palmer Triage is what makes the difference really because he can choose which amp he runs it through, effectively making 1 bass sound like 3 Instruments. Quite a neat set-up really.
I love how Mike just puts his arm out at 3:08 almost as if to say "take it away, Ben".
"go get 'em baby"
I drove 100 miles to go and see these guys play a half hour set in Nottingham a few weeks ago and it was so worth it. I have been waiting for a band like this for ages. Fuking ROCKING !!!!
Look up a band called Drenge if you haven't already.
Totally agree mate.
***** look up a band called DZ Deathrays if you haven't already
*****
Drenge are ok. Not a patch on these lads.
Hard to tell they've only got 4 songs.
These guys are insane. That bass! Incredible.
it's not a bass if it sounds like guitar
@@boogieman.1698 it is still a bass
The tone of that Bass Guitar is mind-blowing.
Got that right!
Didn't believe it was just bass until I saw this. The harmonising effect at the end is incredible. They sounds like a two-man 'Rated R'-era QOTSA crossed with the best things about DFA1979. Incredible.
Fender starcaster bass, what a jewel!
That bass effect...holy cow
There are prerecorded guitars being played too just for the record, the bass does sound awesome though.
edit - (just found out this is not true)
***** True, but you can see him doing the solo bit on the bass, so there's obviously some sort of layering going on there.
Yeah man I'm pretty sure this dude uses an octaver effect, bit like one jack white would use with his guitars
***** I don't think there is. He splits his signal into 3 amps, with octave pedals. No guitars.
***** Ah ok
love the kyuss and qotsa influences. nice!
everyone talks about how the bassist sounds like a electric guitar, but no one talks about 3:08 's smooth drum solo
Favourite band at the moment, I f**king love the whole set up of it. Just amazed how he can shred like that on the bass. Iâve never grew so fond of a band in such short amount of time before
mmm that drum fill at 3:08 thoughhhh
Sammy Walker my favourite ever drum fill, I play drums and it took me about a week to learnđđ€·đ»ââïž Worth it tho, so fun to play
Big fan of the bass guitar, but never seen it played in this style, genius
Yeha I always just assumed it was an overdriven guitar tbh
Such a cool setup. Never seen that effect with a bass before, who said two people isn't enough?!
Muse also used distortion on bass
btw, this band is good
Check out 'Death From Above 1979'!
It's just a pitch shifter, people use it all the time.
steinhoffski he's splitting the signal to a bass and guitar amp as well
uh Death From Above 1979 perhaps?
Never heard a bass like that, love it mucho!
one of the best bass performances ive heard
Only found out these are a two-piece yesterday. Blown away.
The best thing about this band is that all of their songs are unique, and still remain top quality! New favourite band by far :)
I'm a sucker for a good baseline but the drummer, wow! He hits it like rapid fire going off!
This band are going places. HUGE.
2 men making sweet music! Quality!
Full on respect to the dude who makes his bass sound like a guitar,it is mind blowing,so fresh for the music industry,so glad these guys are big, hope the 2nd album gets them big in america
Thanks Royal Blood for single-handedly saving rock music
Bass version of Jack White. I love this band.
but much better XD
He isnât anywhere near as creative or unorthodox as jack white. More like the bass version of jimmy page.
First time ive ever seen this done with a bass, and fair play it works real well. And its a great tune
Easily my favourite song of 2014! Just amazing
Fantastic! Drum and bass not doing drum and bass. Awesome rock.
just when you thought you'd heard it all before. rock n roll will never die
Great song, great sound - good to see a band succeed on the quality of their music, not their haircut.
What are you guys on
why would a band succeed solely on their haircuts
Hes implying that nowadays success is based on how you dress, not how talented you are. So its good to see a couple of guys just being real and receiving the credit they deserve.
He has a good haircut tho
Amazing!!! Epic sound! All that noise from a bass! BOOM'
This just fricken rocks......mind blown from that sound. Awesomeness.
Awesome rock and the drummer is solid with flair
It's a common illness among rock fans to instantly compare a band to other bands. "Sound a bit like... But mixed with... Or like ... on their third album..."
I love us suckers xD
+Michele Tuesday sounds a bit like Wolfmother to me
@@JorgeBartual1 more manics imo
This stole the show for me last night. I had to call people in to listen. What an incredible sound from just two people.
Saw this on tv and became a Royal Blood loyalist, best discovery in ages. So f'kin cool it's just two guys.
used to make music like this back in 99. But I am from Croatia so what the fuck do I know.
Bebe Na Vole hahahaha... that made me laugh out loud. cool.
Third world life, is hard, is cool. Good vibes from Colombia ;)
Bebe Na Vole You are right in your implication this music is clearly influenced by blues based heavy rock that first appeared in the late 60's !
Keith Bate Fuck you and your "blues baseed heavy rock that first appeared in 60ÂŽs", it sounds like sir shit L.L
El Niño De La Comuna 13 Wow a real "insightful comment" from someone who clearly has a huge amount of musical knowledge (LMAO)
This is an incredible performance. I've watched this and shared it so many times already. I will use it on my channel playlist!
Easily the best song of the year so far!!!
can't help but imagining this sung by josh homme.
Quality drummer, simple, steady, powerful!!!!
Simply beautiful, powerful, delicate delivery from guitar, drum & voice.
Bass
Favourite song of the year...
its like he's playing a guitar but its a bass is it going through a pedal to make that guitar sound. like a splitter so its like a bass and a guitar in sequence.
yeah and the obvious distortion pedal, great sound
His bass sounds awesome with a distortion pedal
on my knees and hands down!!! they're just simply amazing!
incredible! just two of them!
Been waiting for a band like this for a long time -amazing...
Proof that rock never dies!!! Awesme!!!!!
my gosh they're awesome, love it!
they are two BIG MONSTERS!
I LOVE THIS BAND
Rage Against the White Stripes of the Stone Age \m/
They're like rock glue hahaha its crazy!!
Rage Against the White Striped Black Keys of the Stone Age?? .....no?
I hear it a bit
And dont forget Eagles of Death Metal too ;)
Royal Blood = Early Muse Rage Against the Black & White Kyuss of the Stone Age of Death Metal Stripes and Keys with a hint of Led Zeppelin
MrMusicfan007 (This name also contains my favourite bands)
freakin awesome
the birth of anew force in rock. great s heavy sound and vocals
What a fucking performance.
wow... really good. So glad finally a ROCK band i can listen to n brought me back to those times..of Deep Purple n Led Zeppelin...etc.
Saw these support Interpol a couple of months back at Brixton and they reminded me of Death From Above 1979 and Black Keys.
Fanfuckingtastic Band and album of the year What the rock world has been waiting for Best thing since Zeppelin Enuff said
Flea plays a bass like a lead guitar
Mike : Hold my beer
Loved it!
who needs a fkng guitar!
It is a guitar
I think they need another bassist
Because every bass solo sounds the same..
@@condors1972 it's a bass.
@@condors1972 there's a big difference between a guitar and bass mate.
@@noahk3762 guitar
Love it!
EXCELLENT! love it wow
Just perfect !
He sounds like the 'low octave' effect on my amp, which just plays along with you an octave lower. If you wanted to sound like them without buying a bass, I bet a pedal could do the same.
Absolute essence
love it
Best new band at the moment, saw them at finsbury park. They fucking smashed it!!!!
How cool is that Bass!!
These guys are insane!!!
this is how Drum & Bass should sound, not like the shit we hear in the clubs :)
ihateusernamesgrrr "why can't people like different kinds of music."
I still thinking you was joking but is my job to say that obviously drum & bass doesn't literally means it, it's a music genre, and yes, like you can hear in electronic parties little genius
El Niño De La Comuna 13 Royal Blood's music is blues based heavy rock which first appeared in the late 1960's !
Keith Bate I think is more like Muse without guitar and ith to much effects in the bass like pitch changers and overdrive, maybe if they said that is probably because theyÂŽre so clasy and of course british and because they not have balls to say theyÂŽre based in certainly modern british rock style ;)
El Niño De La Comuna 13 Muse ????
Thereâs lots of stuff on line about how Mike splits the the signal between the guitar and bass amps. However nobody has quite worked out exactly how he does it.
bardzo dobra pĆyta ...jest juĆŒ na pĂłĆce
Class !
...............rock music is looking healthy indeed at the moment!!
ĐŒĐŸĐ»ĐŸĐŽŃŃ ŃДбŃŃĐ°! ĐŸŃлОŃĐœĐ°Ń ĐżĐ”ŃĐœŃ
1:37
dat drum face tho
Drum and bass that I could get used too! Starcaster is awesome too.
esse baixo, Mlk. o som vai lĂĄ na alma!!!!!!!
E eu vendo o vĂdeo e esperando a guitarra aparecer.
De repente o cara me sola com o baixo...
Some years back I went to see Arctic Monkeys at Finsbury Park and Royal Blood were supporting, I'd never heard their stuff and did no prep... it was an experience.
just WOW :-O
looking forward for the hurricane festival to see them live in germany!
These guys are so fucking hard hitting, love it!
nice song
Energy!
Dude can play that bass.
That drum fill is fucking class
Holy fuck that last drum fill!!! I honestly repeated that part about 10 times
pleasure
he plays the bass like the guitar which is really refreshing
People forgot about audioslave influences here. Royal blood what a band!!!
The fill....... damn
[Verse 1]
Hey little monster, I got my eye on you
Where are you going, where you running to?
Hey little monster, you know it's all ok
I'm gonna love ya, no matter what you say
[Chorus]
I've got love on my fingers
Lust on my tongue
You say you got nothing
So come out and get some
Heartache to heartache
I'm your wolf, I'm your man
I say run little monster
Before you know who I am
[Verse 2]
Hey little creature, tell me what's on your mind
Where've you been hiding? And can I come this time?
So pleased to please ya, and rip that heart off your sleeve
What we discover...
[Chorus]
I've got love on my fingers
Lust on my tongue
You say you got nothing
So come out and get some
Heartache to heartache
I'm your wolf, I'm your man
I say run little monster
Before you know who I am

[Instrumental]
[Chorus]
I've got love on my fingers
Lust on my tongue
You say you got nothing
So come out and get some
Heartache to heartache
I'm your wolf, I'm your man
I say run little monster
Before you know who I am
As someone who doesn't know much about musical instruments I still don't understand how just two people can create this sound.
He plays it on bass using multiple amplifiers, he switches in different amps and effects using foot switches , e.g. a clean bass with a distorted sound on top and any other effects he uses to get a layered tone, basically he "builds" soundscapes.
+Dave Stevens don't forget the octave up pedal, which gives the bass a guitar range!
frankly... Fuck yes!
He got a bass sound like Queens of the stone age guitars. Fucking awsome sound
ive just found these, where the fuck have i been.
â€ïžđ€đđ
This is insane. Fucking awesome.
đđ€đ
Wow, Mike Kerr has slimmed down a lot since this was shot
Check out a band called Marmozets. They are also amazingly refreshing.
