Another of his free harmonica lessons, Luke "Playa T." Clebsch teaches how to play John Popper's intro solo in Blues Traveler's hit song "Run-Around," so that you can do your own Run Around Cover. And this time I'm actually in the correct position! 2nd position on a C harmonica, which turns out to be much easier than playing it 1st position on a G harp!! This is on of the best harmonica songs, imho!
Here are the harmonica tabs in C:
slide up to 8- 7+ 7- 7+ 7- 6- 6+ 6- 6- 7- 6- 6+ 5+ 4- 3- 2- 4+ 4-
5+ 6+ 6- 7- 7+7- 7+7- 8- 7- 6- 6+ 8+(grace note bend)
(7+ 6+ ghost notes) 8- 7+ 7- 8- 7+ 6- 7+ 7+ 7- 6- 6+ 5+
4- 4-(slight bend down) 3- 2- 4+ 3-
Sorry I got so flustered at the end. But I'm pretty sure I got the harmonica tabs right so follow the tabs!
And that's the intro riff of John Popper's harmonica solo on Run-Around by Blues Traveler. Hopefully that's helpful!

I’m 23 years old I grew up around the south my stepdad is a country musician and because of him I want to learn how to play banjo and harmonica I’m a new subscriber, I appreciate you posting videos like this truly.
John Threw Me his harmonica at the Belasco in Los Angeles recently and now I’m learning the harmonica with his harmonica that’s bad ass
John Popper also threw me one of his harmonicas and Brendan Hill gave me his drumstic, signed it and took his picture with me during the concert in Seattle.
lol
Read this comment in covid times like 😳.
Hero! You deserve a medal for teaching that, thank you!
Ok bro... John Popper is the reason I have two harmonicas...But now...Your the reason I can play some of his stuff!! You break things down perfectly!...Even in the wrong position at least I can riff better now!!! this ones perfect my friend!!
Great job Lucas! I'm always worried I play/teach things in the wrong position! :-)
***** LOL. That was funny...
That's awesome! Thank you. As you were getting a bit flustered, I was thinking, "That can't possibly be easy to teach and slow down and remember where you're at.". So no need for sorrow. You did fantastic and I'll be learning this and more from you. Thank you.
Thanks for helping bring my playing to the next level!
Hey much better than I could do so far..got me into learning it.. I never played harmonica but always wanted to. Don't be too hard on yourself, we can always improve. But thank you for this
Good job, man. I have no idea how you manage to slow it down like that and still remember how to play it hole by hole.
Kudos to you brother for having the stones to do this lesson, there's a Lotta Super Duper, popular harmonica teachers out there and no one has this lesson amazingly. Very well done gained a whole new respect for you and a follower. Thanks brother. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙌
Watching again 😊😊.Like your style and your friends with popper
thank you for taking your time to teach this. much appreciated!
Right on Jake! Rock on...
Dude. Killer video and great job on this tune. Your the man. I appreciate you sharing. The more you learn the better you get.
Right on man. Yeah, I couldn't believe it when I couldn't find a tutorial to help me learn it so I was like, "well I guess I should learn it and make a tutorial!" lol. Challenging for sure! Thanks for the note
Heck yeah Popper is a monster player. Arguably the best in the world
This is great, especially since my band wants to do this song, and they expect me to sound like Popper! I've just subscribed to your wonderful channel. Any way you could also do a video on the solos in Run-Around?
Great, man! It helps A LOT!!!
Do you know someone that can have a lesson of the SOLO Harp, in the middle of the music? Thanks!!!
Awesome bro thankyou 🎉
Wow! You just did it exactly how it is!
this video got me into harmonicas, thank you
Awesome Lucas! Thanks for posting this. I would love lessons on the harmonica parts in Blessid Union of Souls' She Likes me for Me' and Gin Blossoms' Follow You Down, also If Only by Hanson.
Just recently received a family heirloom(tremolo harmonica) from my ma. She found it while cleaning at my grandmother’s. Immediately looked up how to play this gem! Lol
Ok im following you think im getting it.YA I got it. Your killing it brother.
You got it bro. I love it. Not really great on harp but I'm gonna get this because of you. Thanks so much. Please keep doing this
You got this!
@@FunkyHarp I gave up. I need to get a better harmonica. It's so easy for me to pick everything up on guitar. But as of right now my Harper is a POS. I promise to revisit this.
can you do a video with the solo and the ending also?
Very NICE
Good lesson, regarding John Popper's Run Around, but there are several Tab errors! I'll get them the way you played it, compared to what's written and send them to you. it's a great upper octave lesson, Lucas, thank you.
funky Harp You are Amazing bro :)
Thanks man.
Awesomeness 😂😂😂❤❤
I have a special twenty but having difficulty with high notes functioning.
idk why you'd apologize for getting flustered. It's very relatable and by that point of the video i was making the same faces
which harmonica can I get to have that range? I've tried a few C harmonicas and they call sound different. Am I missing something?
Thanks for the lesson! I'm the guy that requested this song a while back and I wanted you to know that I appreciate your effort. What do you think about that sessions steel? I have one in G and I found it more difficult to play than my lee oskar or my special 20's. (The holes seem smaller)
KidPokerX24 Sik! Glad it helped. Sorry I got so flustered at the end. Yeah, Seydel's are not my favorite to be honest. I seem to prefer the sound of brass reeds to stainless feel. At the NAMM show, I was very impressed with the Suzuki's. I've got a chromatic coming from them Monday....
Ha I like your style
Can you play AREA CODE 615
Good to get a lesson for such a great harmonica tune but very confusing until I found the transcript
What does 2nd position mean? And you need a certain type of harmonica?
I think you're giving me the run around. Seemed only fair.
i like your hat
This is really hard. Perhaps I should be trying something different. I just picked up harmonica a couple weeks ago LOL
Oh not a chance I gave up with run around. I got halfway decent at jingle bells and silent night though LOL
Lol 😆 will do.
Facebook link isn't working! 😢
You can look me up Lucas Clebsch
Arin "too perfect" Hanson
No Thank you. I will order 😊😊😊❤❤
Great job. Maybe Jason Ricci can teach Popper how to play it in 1st position. Lol. I learn a lot from all of y’all harp players. Thanks for sharing. I’ve seen progress in my own videos.
What a crap thing to say. I'm sure they could teach each other plenty.
Jesus!!!!!
It is a bit disappointing that John Popper never plays the album version of the Hook solo (I know this isn't the video for it) when playing live. He just plays a large amount of random up-and-down runs that, while they sound amazing, aren't anywhere near similar to the original. There's a youtube interview where he played it roughly for someone and commented that he had "forgotten the chord progression" and I was a bit puzzled. Someone of his musical aptitude could pick up a chord progression like that and re-learn it in no time, so I'm always curious why he never plays it like the album version. I've noticed that he does something similar with other songs, but Run Around and others seem much more similar to the album when played live than when he does the Hook solo.
Hmm. That's really interesting.

@@LukeClebschPlayaT Popper always seems a bit of a troll in his interview.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHH ONCE UPON A MIDNIGHT- oh we're not doing that part
1:26 he says 6 draw 6 blow then plays 3 notes why not say the 3rd sound you made it’s confusing and I don’t what to do there
it seems like you play so many more notes than what is given in the tabs. Sounds great but
fuckin get it dude popper is not easy haha
STILL MISSING SOME NOTES MAN. BUT GOOD JOB
John Topper is wrong you played it in G much better
