The salt and sugar packets in the HDR can be mixed with water to make an oral rehydration drink to replace electrolytes after diarrhea or vomiting. The sugar can be added to water to make a sweet drink, or to tea if the refugee has some of their own.

The sugar packets would be good for keeping up the blood sugar levels of anyone who is diabetic in an emergency situation. Low blood sugar is far more dangerous in the short term compared with low blood sugar.

Very cool friend. I still have an older menu 2 here. These meals are plain, but well serve the purpose. Bad situation, most would gladly enjoy my friends. The components looked good, with minimal age damage. You ate well Art. I hope all are well. Tell all hello from Ky. Peace, John.

Did the accessory pack have coffee in it? If so, maybe that's what the sugar was for, Looks like a decent ration for humanitarian distribution. Hungry folks should find it a satisfying meal. Even I, who am no hungry at the moment, would enjoy it. Nice review, Art. Cheers.

No coffee. These are meant to be served to anyone in the world. Any culture, any dietary requirements. Some cultures forbid caffeine, so no caffeine. Some herbal tea might be nice, but these are not meant to be a luxury. They just keep people alive. And they do a good job of that, but no drinks makes the meal a bit boring.

I think it's actually missing tea. Tea is more widespread drink that you would also give to kids.

The world is lucky to get what they get! And from what I have seen. There is no complaints from those who are hungry that eat this free food given to them!!

Should have been 2 pop tarts. I just opened a xmre blueline ration up tonight and they were fused together as well. 4 or 5 years old, but tasted just fine!

Im thinking you could use the sugar to cut the acidity of any meal that has a acidic tomato base, or if you finally have a chance to come across some coffee or tea. I wish these would have a coffee or tea or some kinda drink.

I never did mind these rations for their simplicity. I enjoyed each one I've ever opened up.
    Thanks for the video.

These things are simple. No meat so that there are no diet restrictions. Its really a belly filler ration to keep a person alive. Drink would be nice but not if there is no clean water

I bet they forgot to put the coffee, Cooco, and soft drink in there. In 1987-1991, when I was in the Marine Corps, i found Mres missing crap. Matches, tp paper, spoon. Food, hand cleaner, and soft drink. That is why Marines brought their own stuff like i did. You can't trust th e Corps to be perfect. They did this with bullets, mortors, motor tubes, gernades, you name it Uncle Sam forgot it. Lol

You are eating a “humanitarian food supply”. The people that are eating this food are starving and appreciate this food. Try not eating for 3 full days and then give an honest review!
