I like that you don't always the right product or know the technique from the original. What you're teaching is how to brainstorm and show us that we can use what we have as well and make something inspired and just as beautiful as someone else's, but ours!

You did an outstanding job. If you look at the top of her tag. You will see tiny holes. Where she had started to sew the x’s. So yes you did that correctly. And your crackle looks amazing. The way to get the blended look on the texture paste thru a stencil. You wait till it dries and lay the stencil back on and brush and blend with ink. And as far as the bow. Well.....you dampen it and scrunch it up in your hands. You had the right concept of it. But you make wider loops and use a tiny piece of the binding to tie around the middle. Lolol that’s a lot of instructions from me and I am no expert at it. Please please don’t think I am criticizing your work. Because I’m not. I love how you made it work. I’m just trying to help you for maybe the next time. Ok? Please if this upsets anyone would you please delete it? Cause I would not offend anyone for the world. Please just know that. Luv ya

When I want to paint my texture paste, I let the base layer dry after stenciling, and then I put the stencil back over it when I add the paint. That keeps the paint on top of the dry texture paste and off of the paper around it. Great video!!!! Tons of ideas are brewing in my head!!!

I love it🥰 i think you nailed it on the crackle and painting the flowers. She might have brushed on ink on hers. I think her ribbon was not as wide as yours so it played nicer... and a big Brad or bead instead of the leaf. But Barbara, when you colored that girl my heart melted... so sweet! And I am so glad you painted the umbrella it was driving me crazy. 🙂

I think it turned out just perfectly!! Its your design and your creation, and we love it!! I have used cheesecloth in projects and found that if I cut it then just stretch it in every direction, it will fray it so badly it looks like trash..BUT for journals, its a messy gorgeous cloth totally usable!! It gives it a really open weave like hers..and as far as the seam tape...I have seen a lady dampen hers a bit, then wad it in her hands and roll it many times in her hands then let it dry..it dried all crinkled and cool!! I just use sari silk for my stuff...but I would like to try the seam tape..I have tons of quilting materials from the last 40+ years and dress making, but no seam tape!! Great job!!!

Looks like crackle paste to me. Amazon has it or you can make your own. Sewing on the x's is brilliant. Adds more texture! (Commenting as I watch.) I like the little red roses. Again, adds more texture and dimension, but also mimics the roses stencil. They'll be perfect with their bright red color dulled down a bit. Well, there goes the roses. The little painted hearts work well, too. I like your tag better! I feel like her base card is too busy, yours is perfect. Coloring the umbrella was the right thing to do, as well. Great job! This was fun.

I can imagine that coming up with faux crackle could be a challenge, and I like your choices. After all the work is to represent a similar art piece. I have some crackle medium I use with acrylics but the texture paste is an amazing touch!

  • @nikkigraham536
    @nikkigraham536 Před 3 lety +1

You can make your own crackle paint effect using regular white school glue and acrylic paint. Put down a layer of the school glue and while it’s still wet gently put a layer of acrylic paint on the top. Make sure not to mix the paint into the glue and use a heat tool or blow dryer to dry it. I use this technique all the time.

I think Tim holtz embossing glazes were sprinkled over wet texture paste applied through a stencil. Allow to dry then heat? For the pretty tones of the flowers. I also think crackle paint. I adore that you can adjust to the project. You can see that you did is color your gesso, texture paste to a base color and then add the 2nd color with a brush. Normally I personally use texture paste and use water color, gelato or any other colors close to me and get that gradient I want. For cracking you can literally bend carefully the areas and a pallet knife to make awkwardly placed lines. This must be done with damp medium. By gentle pressure you can control the cracks (big/little, etc). I have known technical processes but sometimes its hard to get started or an inspiration to get a start on projects. Thanks to you I no longer have that excuse. You are so amazing

Beautiful spread loving all the details. I think it’s shredded lace more so than cheese cloth!

Wow! Again so gorgeous! Your attention to detail!!! I would have missed SO much and then wondered why it didn’t turn out! There was definitely way more going on then it looks! Great job and thanks for sharing! She (Emma) has a whole blog and explains how she does each thing. She used crackle paste with distress crayon, glazes on her texture pastes and crinkle ribbon. I can’t wait to see what you do next!!!

In paint isle you can buy little bottles of crackle medium it is under 3.00 here in Ohio. Its real easy to do and I'm pretty sure that's what she did.

Gorgeous tag. I think it’s crackle paste on the original tag. Enjoyed watching the process. Thank you for sharing.

I think this tag looks great. The one thing that bothered me, only a little, was the umbrella. I loved that you fixed it. Your roses are lovely. So well done!

GdM Barbara! Yours is absolutely GORGEOUS! I love this challenge.... That was a Tim Holtz "paper doll" but, I loved your choice! So glad you decided to paint the umbrella. I'm going to try this (if you don't mind...)! Have a wonderful, safe, healthy and blessed weekend! Peace & Blessings!

I’m happy you colored the umbrella.

  • @craftingexperiments-StellaT

Very very well done Barbara. As others said, it was a good choice colouring the umbrella. Regarding the yellow flowers on the small tag, I think that the greenish leaves were stenciled with ink and the flowers were stenciled with gesso, so the leaves are more like in the background. Also, I think the small tag may have been a side pocket, meaning that the label was not glued on the large tag. No matter what, I think this series you've started is amazing, It helps our brain stay young, so thanks for looking out for our mental health, Dr. B. Have a nice weekend.

You can make faux metal flowers and clips using foil paper and distress with black soot. Get a little punch or flower die is a good investment. You can buy artist paints in silver, gold bronze etc too and paint your own foil paper.you can paint your brads too.
Buy seam binding in bulk in white then use your watercolour paints or Distress products to tint

The original smaller tag looks like it's made with upholstery fabric or fabric with some embroidery on it. Those white areas look like lace, and the XX's look like some cross-stitches. Yours looks great. Different, but very nice.

Beautiful tag! It came out so good. I think the changes you made were just fine, and you made it more into your own style, which was the goal I'm sure. Great job!

You have a beautiful tag now. It is very large and would do great in a journal page. Lot's of great coloring. Glad you decided to add color to the umbrella. I have plenty of inspirations from Pinterest. I hope to challenge myself soon.
