- In this video I compare my life as chef in London and Madrid. I can tell already that from 'day one' I saw sharp differences in terms of hiring, adjusting to distance and adapting to survive insanely hot weather!
* You will probably find things that are absolutely normal to you in your country but since I tell my personal story and my discoveries the reaction is real. Enjoy

So nice to have you sharing all your honest experience and point of view in terms of experience in both cities after living/working in both :) 👩🍳 Shutting down August (almost completely) for me still the biggest cultural change comparing both places but no problem, we adjust! 🤪
Haha I don’t even know which is the nr 1 most shocking, maybe some I didn’t mention?🙊 i will keep a bit of a secret here 😁 ačiū labai😙

Wow amazing insight to the difference in places , you need to do a food vlog around Madrid , we went to Saville it was amazing but the weather omg so hot I’m from England so that was shockingly hot , but a great city .. love these videos from you .. good luck ..!!
Hey! Ohh God.. you went in summer to Seville, i was not brave enough to do that after hearing about the heat there. 😃 Madrid was enough for me 🙈
thank you so much! I actually have a video about bakeries and good spots in Madrid and the second video is on the way! Check the link below:

Life in Madrid looks amazing. Thanks for sharing your adventures in Spain.
Hey! Many thanks for watching! Yes life here is different to what I am used to but love it! :) my pleasure to share as always:)) see you soon!
Great video Kris👌. Really interesting 👍. I lived in London & also Alicante. In the centre of Alicante it was Exactly the same for me. No sleep. I moved just outside of the centre & couldn't believe how quiet the neighborhood was. totally different. Hope you are well. ☘🥰.
Hey! Ohh so you can completely relate to this! I know eventually i will live in some village with completely silence but now it’s still very nice to go outside to my neighbourhood for my cafecito. Still enjoy though regardless all these noisy stuff🤓
Warm regards to you!🍀😊
Thank you/Gracias Kris… excellent video As always… nice stories & great ending… until next time 🎉🎉🎉
Hola Iwona!😃 thank you thank you so much! You are the best watching till the end! Appreciate 💫

Must have been a difficult move, all things considered, but great seeing you finding your way in Madrid! Thank you for sharing your experiences with the crowd, and congrats on your super good Spanish!
Hello Ferenc, yes i think it’s our nature to adjust/adapt and move on😇 i felt it was a good time to catch up on this one, it was interesting for me too to recap on 1 year 😃 thank you very much Ferenc!

Hola! Como estas? Muchas muchas gracias por estar aquí! ☺️
Espero que mires a todos mis videos porque de verdad todos salen de mi corazón:) abrazo grande y te mando saludos desde Madrid!🙂
So nice Madrid !
It truly is, especially the park called El Retiro, my favourite place 🥹
Enjoy the videos. Like the insights as a lockdown taught baker!
Thank you very much!☺️ if you ever settle in Spain you ll know some details 😃
Hey Kris! And YET ! another wonderful video. Loved hearing your experiences in both countries and working in both. You are fortunate to be in cities with wonderful bakeries. Not so many here, most are in grocery stores that get frozen items that they bake off. Others are "artsy" ones that are quite expensive.
You didn't mention if you have to get a work visa to stay in those countries. How does that work? Do you have to stay for a certain time? Thanks Xxoo
Hello! Thank you darling so much! I honestly feel super fortunate because both cities are so cozy and beautiful, full of good people. Moreover the level of bakeries is really nice and I am so proud to be their team member. ☺️
Uh I actually didn’t think of putting visa question in the video because in Europe you don’t need it. Now if i had to come back to the UK would be different story, I would need to get a visa etc. to be honest i am so not used to it. No certain time required to stay here in Spain , since i live here i have my permanent location so i am good with all legal stuff.
Always good to hear from you, stay safe and talk to you soo!:)
God bless you and more power's, keep safe
Hey! You are so kind! Thank you so much ☺️
You are a very nice person i hope you are very happy in Madrid
Thank you so much, so nice of you to say this! Madrid is fantastic indeed☀️
💖💖💖💖😉😉
☺️☺️😇
I was surprised by the pay and the hours you mentioned in London. I worked as a Bakery Assistant in Outer London in 2022 on £10 per hour and all my working life in various jobs in the Uk and Ireland the full time hours have been 37.5 per week. Your Spanish sounds so good!! 👍
Hey! Interesting, so you didn't do a full contract, right?
yes the salary it is what it is, in Spain you cannot do more than 40 hours in theory, in London you earn more but you spend more too so there is always a balance :)
muchas gracias, agradezco mucho ☺️
When you start your shift with latino songs!💃💃💃
Yes you saw it!! I was secretly willing you would see that part 😁☺️ vamos latino songs!🥳
Keep doing what you’re doing chef kris. Proud baker here 💪🇧🇭🇵🇭
Hello Lance! Thank you for motivational words! Appreciate it! ☺️
Warm regards!
Love your honest comparison between the 2 cities. Maybe you can try Italy or Switzerland also? Friendly people good hospitality industries. You should do fine with English. Don't come to the US. There is no safety net and if you don't belong to the 1% on top, life is very challenging. I say this as an European living in the US.
Best of luck in your journey, I'll keep watching. Maybe try some ear plugs for better sleep?
Hey Antje! Hope you are well!:)
I imagine Italy would be very similar to Spain, at least bigger cities, Rome is so busy too. What else is challenging in the US? Sounds interesting to hear as i have no experience with the US.
Thanks for a suggestion😉warm regards!
And thank you so much! Appreciate it!
Somewhat surprised the pay is so low in Europe for bakery chief. Here in USA you would make at least 3x. Most chiefs make around $30/hour and $40/hour in large cities. With dollar being equal to Euro, no one would work here for $9/hour.
Hey! That’s interesting point! I actually would love to work for some time in the US, and se how things work over there. Yes it’s sound super low but that’s the reality when the employer decides to go for a very minimum.
Many thanks!
Hi l like this work
Me too!🙏🏻☺️
¡Que buen español tienes, Kris! Hablas muy bien y con buen acento. Espero tu siguiente video para saber cual será tu próximo país... ¡Saludos!
Hola Gabriel! Como estas?:)

Can you say which experience you preferred on the whole?
I recently found out myself that spanish people love eggs and have mainly savoury breakfast. Are Italy and France the only countries which have strictly sweet breakfast?
No, many countries love sweet breakfast, i spent some time in Argentina so they love medialunas and coffee for breakfast too. Here in Spain they also love coffee and a sandwich, or a slice of tortilla. Nordic countries love bread with some toppings, can be sweet too. Porridge as well.
I guess i still need to spend more time in Spain, but given I set my foundations in London - i value my experience there more. 😇
Thank you for your question! ☺️ see you soon!
@@KrisKazlauskaite okay, but in Italy you can't eat eggs as breakfast, as well sandwich in the early morning (in Argentina there are many italian people by the way). Also in Denmark they eat pastries but also savoury pastries which you can't find in Italy before lunch.
Anyway, if you go to Italy, let me know. Maybe I couuld give you some advices depending on the detination. Unfortunately in Italy you can find everything, from low standard to very high.
Hi honey Kris how are you nice to see you in uk good you get job ok happy do the job don t make worries happy i pray you okay good night honey Kris
Hello! Hope you are well! Thank younas always, appreciate a lot! 😇
heyy! the salary that you mention is brutte? and how's your expenses? house rent, electricty, water bills.. etc could you please share with us ?
Hey! Yes, the salaries are quite low compared to London, but i should also mention that if you live in a smaller city they hardly go higher (that’s what one spanish friend told me), so still fortunate to live in the capital.
So bills are not the same, i live in a very central zone so pay a bit more (you can rent in Madrid from 800 in the outskirts to over €2000 per month in central Madrid) but honestly love my area so I can walk to work, everything is close. So in that sense i save on transport but still metro or buses are super cheap, montly metro pass in central zone is less than 40 euros. You can rent a scooter for a short trip so it’s also cheap.
Electricity is quite expensive, I think i never paid less than €80 per month. So yeah, internet, food and etc. in the supermarkets you find better quality fruit and veg than the UK. But Spain is still cheaper country in Europe, i feel the difference when i travel:)
Thanks for you question!☺️
I wish one day you will settle down in Lithuania🥹👌🏼
I think that will happen eventually 🤓🥰
