  • In just 5 years, Farrah Haines drove her 2013 Elantra 1 million miles. But most digital odometers stop before 1 million. So we joined her when she hit her milestone and created something special to mark her achievement: The Million Mile Emblem.

      Ankit, just to point out a correction. That's 877 km (not 555 km per day, or 548 X 1.6 km per mile), 24 hr a day. Impossible driving! Assumed she sleeps 7 hrs per day, 2 hrs for breakfast,lunch and dinner. 7- 8 hrs rest, gas fill up time, rest room, and prep, that leaves 7 - 8 hrs work/driving time per day (24 hrs - 16 hrs non driving). So her REQUIRED minimum speed is 125 kph (877/7 hrs driving) or 78 mph. No break down, no tire chg, no repairs, no maintenance service or traffic jam!!! Hyundai and her fool a lot of people. :) :)

    I have a 2010 Sonata with 180,000 miles on it. I have replaced 2 starters, 1 alternator, the engine belt (not timing) and a set of rear wheel bearings. I have also replaced 3 sets of brakes and rotors, the first original set of brakes and rotors lasting 90,000 miles. I now use only ceramic pads and rotors to match for better brake life.
    I still have the original spark plugs in the motor, original water pump, and original fuel pump. I change the oil every 10,000 miles with extended mileage oil and filter and this car does not burn a drop of oil in between oil changes. I have changed the anti freeze twice in 8 years and the transmission fluid every 30,000 as per Hyundai.
    I must say I didn't care for this car when I bought it for a girlfriend who passed away shortly after the purchase of it, but it has won me over with the way it is built and impressed me with the lack of repairs needed to keep it on the road over the years.

    to go 1 million miles in 5 years, averaging a very fast 50 miles an hour!!, you would have to drive 76 hours per week. And how would you even average that speed on deliveries?- does she throw parcels out the window to exclusively hiway addresses? and if you change the average speed to a more realistic 25 mph, it's 152 hours a week (21.7 hours per day). Not really possible and certainly not safe or legal to drive that much per day professionally in many jurisdictions. There kinda has to be multiple drivers if this is true.

In order to drive 200k a year, you need to be on meth to drive without sleeping and eating. Impossible to get it done without serious stimulants, unless her car is driven by a few drivers.

      @@hydraulics My average speed is almost always over 35mph on each tank, and that includes city driving. If you drive on mostly highway youre going to average a lot higher than 25mph. I agree it still sounds pretty ridiculous but there is no way someone who delivers auto parts will average mileage that low. There is a commercial repair company that services my workplace with drivers that cover 3 states. When Ive talked to the technician he told me he will literally drive across states on a daily basis. It sounds like she is in commercial delivery for small parts, very much the same type of deal. You have an extremely large service area.

That will increase the speed with less hrs and shorter time to achieve 1 million miles. And, she drives only 6 days a week, deduct 52 days for a yr (52 weeks a yr), assuming no holidays (labor day, Thanksgiving, X-mas, new yr, sick day, etc). This makes it harder to get 1M miles.

But here in Kansas and Missouri the speed limit is faster and she works longer than 9 hours a day. I know this because she is my Sister in law. Stick to truck driving , not math

    • @abdikadirsaida
      @abdikadirsaida Před 5 lety +22

      Sorry but she have to drive at least 555 a day not a week to reach that.....let's do 30 or 31 ( a month) ×12 , a year......then multiple by 5 years as Hyundai said......which is about 1800 days......then devide the 1000000 by that.......again its impossible. Nobody put more miles like a trucker .we drive up to 11 hrs a day doing 65 to 75 mph. And the most we put on is 3 to 4 k miles a week. By the way am a college drop off......and this is not even a middle school math.......not all truck drivers are illiterate....is just that it pays more to be a trucker.....thanks for the advise though am staying in my trucking.

    • @HeresMyView
      @HeresMyView Před 5 lety +8

      My GorJess Life, using your stats to drive 641 miles in 9 hrs, contant speed is 71 mph. Including the minute you turn on the engine, the car's speed must be 71 mph. If less, then it cannot be done in 9 hrs. So what kind of car starts at 71 mph when you start the engine. Defintely it takes more than 9 hrs. Which means less sleep and less time to rest, and other non-driving hrs. Can't be done in 5 yrs to reach 1 million miles.

      it's 1.600.000km in 5 years. 5 years is 1825 days. 1.600.000 / 1825 = 876km a day. Not possible as I don't believe for a second she would drive every single day. We all get sick or have other commitments not to mention the car would def spend some time in service.

    Wow that's awesome. How many times did you have to blast the air intake valves with walnut media to clean out the carbon build up from the GDI engine or what ever aggressive chemical used without damaging the catylitic converter? I own a GDI engine also and I would love to know.

    • @palebeachbum
      @palebeachbum Před rokem

      GDI is a faulty technology. Manufacturers have since realized this and either gone back to MPI or dual injection using both GDI and MPI, which cleans the carbon build up.

    Any car can reach 1 mill, as long you do maintenance as it says in the owners manual. Changing the oil every 3,000 or 5,000 miles (depending how you drive the car) check the transmission fluid every 10,000 miles ( I do it on my cars to keep the trans healthy). And if you are committed to the car garage it.

    May have to consider myself a Hyundai. Been turned off for a bit after working for a Hyundai dealer and seeing how many engines get replaced on a weekly basis. But they're pretty comfy despite the odor new ones have. Almost like an old folks home. Time to look for a manual Elantra.

    Even averaging 70 mph that’s nearly 8 hours of driving every single day for 5 years. The fact that she did that is more impressive than the car hitting a million miles.

    My wife drives the 2012 Hyundai Equus and she wouldn't trade it for a BMW or Audi but she might possibly take a Mercedes. Fortunately she would rather have an incredible car and NOT have to pay over 100k for it. The only thing that we don't like about it is that its front tires are a different size than the back tires and the tires that are meant to go on her car only last around 30k miles. Other than that, this luxury Hyundai is AWESOME.

      Same with my 2010 Genesis coupoe. You cannot roate the tires and I use ultra high performance (soft) tires that handle well but wear quickly. But, it's a great car and it has 105K miles on it ...so far.

    My 2010 Toyota Camry LE has 178,000 original miles. The same 2AR-FE Original engine is still in it. Nothing has had to be done to the engine at all so far. Brakes and tires seem to be needed for care like having to replace the brakes a few times, tires not as much. The car is in good shape it can easily go to 3-400,000 miles. Gets every 5,000 mile oil changes and don’t burn oil either. Had to replace 2 tire inflation pressure sensors in my back tires but got them rotated and balanced recently and my car drives perfectly. No shaking or anything for 178,000 miles. Interior is spotless and isn’t dirty. Seats are in great condition and everything mechanical works, and power functions work, A/C is ice cold still. Cruise control work. Steering wheel audio controls work, horn works, center display works, clock works, radio is good. Nothing has had to be replaced or worked on with the interior. But other than the brakes and tires it’s normal wear and tear but I plan on keeping my Camry for a long time. My Camry is just as good as a Hyundai because Toyota’s were made to last just as well. My Camry is required to have synthetic oil as well.
